[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Re: Non-blood Akhu?
« on: July 15, 2017, 05:00:15 pm »
Em hotep all,

This is a great thread :)

We most definitely need to have more open discussions about our loved ones that have passed to the West.  I love hearing about everyone's Akhu and the stories that go with them.  Sharing your stories and memories keep our loved ones alive and their spirits fed and respected (I believe that).

In regard to whom you want to put in your shrine(s), that is a very personal and individual decision.  Just because the person was directly related to you does not mean that they automatically should be or will be placed in your shrine(s).  For example, if the deceased person may have caused you hurt, shame or other while they were alive, you have the choice to forgive them and if that is so, it is your call whether you want to put them in your shrine.   Honoring a deceased person is just that ...regardless if they are related to you or not.

And for all the others that are not blood or otherwise directly connected to you, you are still welcome to put them in your shrines.   For the akhu/friends/loved ones/teachers/mentors, that you put in your shrines, the reason why they are there is for you alone to know.   You are not required to give any explanation of why or why not you chose to add or not add someone to your shrine.

I love anything to do with the Akhu and setting up the shrines to honor and remember them.  When I do my weekly prayers to my Akhu and others, I say every time, for my Akhu known and unknown, I will remember and honor you for as long as I’m alive.  I invite them on a weekly basis to come and talk to me if they are wanting to know me or if there is something I can help them with.

For me it’s very personal and I’ve offered my service to Yinepu to serve Him and the Dead and the Dying as it’s very important to me to bring back into the living as to why and how we honor and respect and care for our deceased.

Hi Abby,

Welcome back ... good to see you again.

Regarding getting your status changed, you'll need to have that changed behind the scenes.   I will let someone else post the link for the webmaster (my apologies I didn't have it at the time I made this post).

Regarding shrines ....

I like the idea of a shrine.  For me it is a "designate divine space" that allows me to cross the veil between earth and the spirit world(s).  That space allows me to interact with Netjer (Yinepu and my beloveds) in my own unique way.  Entering that space automatically puts me in a state of mind that is open to receiving.   It also acts as a protective shell around the Name that is being represented in that space.  It also holds the image(s) of my Gods.

I too wish I could have a shrine for every Name in existence but I'm not rich so that is something I can't do at this time. What I can do though is have multiple offering bowls for liquid and dry offerings which can be given to any Name I'm seeking to commune with at that time so I do have small "generic" shrines that can be used for different purposes depending on what I need/want or what type of work I'm doing (ritual, or other).

You can make a shrine out of a carboard box if that's all you have to work with.  Netjer understands that and they do not demand that we have a shrine for every Name in existence.  They know we have our limits and are happy with whatever we can come up with.   Shrines can be made out of a round tin (during the holidays you can find a lot of them) or a gift box if you like it.  They can be made out of shaving kit (I've seen that too).

Shrines don't need to be over the top, although there are a couple of Names (that I won't mention) who like the gold and flashy and expensive things ..and for those you do what you can do but again Netjer does not expect you to break the bank when you set up your shrine(s).   There is a thread on the boards ..I think it was called "show me your shrines" or something like that ..where folks were posting pictures of their shrines and set-ups.   You might want to check those out.  There are some amazing shrines out there :)

Em hotep Hearthfire!

Wow a child of Geb and Nut!  Pretty cool in my book :)  When I first started with the House I did not think it was possible for an "abstract" to have a named child.  I use the word "aspect" for air, earth, fire, water, sky ...elementals (from my pre House days) so when we started getting them I was very curious to meet them to see if they were different from the other Names.

I'm still working on that theory as I've not met any of you in person but would really love the chance to talk with you about Geb and Nut in the future.

Congratulations on your RPD.   Welcome to the journey of finding out who you are.  It's pretty amazing ..I've been here for 18 years ..and I still learn new stuff all the time.

Looking forward to getting to talk with you.

Em hotep

I'm a child of Yinepu ...and he has some different ways to get my attention (all of my beloveds have their own unique way to talk to me it seems).

For Yinepu ..I get cartoons in my head, or a movie will play in my head and I will watch what's happening.  Sometimes I know what's going to happen before it does happen and other times I don't.  He's dropped books and pictures off of shelves and walls if he wants my immediate attention.   He will show me pictures of things that I've never seen prior, but I know that I will see that place again somewhere in the future.

I'm a visual kind of person ..while I have never seen any of Netjer's manifestions physically in my reality ..I do see them all the time in my mind's eye (third eye for you eastern tradition folks).  I see a lot of dead people that way ...I can go places and pick out the graveyards every time .... I did it in Chizen Itza the first time I was at the Ball court there.  I have always seen/heard dead people for a very long time.

Yinepu also likes to let me know he's hanging around as I will smell the very specific incense I use for Shrine when He's hanging out.  It has happened at the office (of all places that's the one I don't like as I'm afraid one day someone else besides me may say ..Hey do you see that big Jackal headed man standing over there??).

Amun likes to talk to me in my dreams.  He likes to "hide in plain sight" when He is in the dream or wants to talk to me.

Bast likes to use kitty cats (real ones) to get my attention or talk to me.  There will always be a kitty sitting outside on the sidewalk looking at my front door or one of my fur babies will come over and crawl up on me until it's staring me down.

Aset likes to use "magick" in my dreams to get my attention ...she's really freaky about morphing  ..she is the Queen in my opinion.

Hethert ..well she is just plain love ..and pink and hearts and giggling can always tell when She's in the room ..the feeling of love is so much my face hurts afterwards from all the grinning.   Hethert is gentle and will also talk to me in my dreams.

One time I had the most amazing dream about how Netjer is One but also the Many.  I will never forget talking to Ra as the Falcon headed man only to watch his head grow the Ram Head and still he kept talking and then he turned into a scarab beetle as the Barque (with me in it) started it's journey into the Underworld ..and the whole time he's just talking like nothing funky was happening while I sat in the boat telling him I could not wrap my head around all that morphing.  I could never have imagined something that freaky on my own ...not in a million years :PP

Each of us has our own unique way(s) of communicating with the Netjer (Divine).  I love hearing how others communicate with the Gods both in our own tradition and the other ones out there.

Good question :)

Thank you.

Prayers.  I'm so sorry for your loss.  I love my fur babies so much.  It is so devasting to lose them especially when they act so human to us.

May Salem be blessed and welcomed into Bast's loving arms.
