Given that the material does seem to be derived from more well-to-do sources, I'd be fascinated to compare it to the ostracons from, say, Deir-el-Medina. My guess is that the workers would have been a little more plain-spoken about both their own concerns and what they thought of the upper classes! (Period graffiti from tombs and temples are often hysterical.) Does anybody know if the material from Deir-el-Medina has been published in a form that's accessible to the reading public?

Of course, my dream is still to actually visit Kemet someday, if I save up my pennies long enough! Sigh...

Senebty!

There's the Deir el-Medina Database, but you need to know hieroglyphics since everything is transliterated but not translated. As such, I can only read a few words here and there myself =P

Hotep Maen! *henu*

Thanks for the book suggestion (though my bank account shakes it's fist in your general direction). ^_^

If you are interested in material from Deir el-Medina in English, there is a great book called, Village Life in Ancient Egypt: Laundry Lists and Love Songs, by A.G. McDowell.

Hope this helps!
