09/02/11 04:45 PM WELCOME to the new House of Netjer Forums! by Webmaster

Em hotep!

Thank you so much for your patience with our forums upgrade. You'll notice some new software capabilities, along with cleaner organization, in both the public and private portions of our website.

As always, when working with a database and membership of this size, there are bound to be mistakes. Please report any bugs you might encounter, or missing access, to webmaster@kemet.org , along with a description of what is missing, as clearly as you can provide it. Our team expects to be working with bug fixes, status adjustments, and other things for the next few days as we settle into the new system.

We apologize for the delay in reopening the forums, as well as any inadvertent loss of data or other errors that may have occurred. Please contact us if you have any questions, or need any help.

03/28/10 09:34 PM About IP Addresses and Why We Show Them by Webmaster

You may notice a little number under the subject of this post and next to the date. It will look something like this:

(192.168.0.1)

This is an IP address. It can help you identify where someone is posting from, and whether they're for real or not.

Since the forums began, we have had various problems with people attempting to spoof their IP address or pretending they're someone they aren't. While we try our best to keep out these types of individuals, we still urge you to be careful who you share your confidence with on our forums.

IP addresses can help in this department, and if you have some technical know-how you can plug an IP address into a tool like the one at SamSpade.org and get valuable information about the user.

Of course, nothing is foolproof. And while it's tempting to throw care to the wind when corresponding online, we urge everyone to exercise caution as to where you place your trust and private or sensitive information.

04/25/06 12:50 PM FORUM POLICY - PLEASE READ! by Webmaster

Welcome to the House of Netjer message boards. Here you can post your ideas, suggestions, comments, and queries on all things Kemetic Orthodox!

Please observe netiquette and respect of all other posters when posting here. This goes for private message-posts as well as postings in public or members-only areas! Specifically, please refrain from:

  1. Vulgarity
  2. "Masked Vulgarity" -- writing a vulgar word with a letter exchanged with a number or other symbol so the new word still is recognizable, to get past the automatic censor. Example: "cen$ored" instead of "censored," where censored is a vulgar word
  3. "Flames" -- attacks on other people, not just those who post, that do not address issues but consist of personal attacks on those people or their behavior.
  4. Embedded Flames -- posts containing arguments that have some validity but whose contents are primarily directed at discrediting, humiliating, or otherwise attacking the reputation, behavior, or credibility of another, are also not permitted.
  5. Advertisements for goods or services of all kinds, except in the members-only Trading Post forum or where permitted by forum staff
  6. Spam -- Multiple duplicate posts in one or more topics
  7. Posting copyrighted material without prior permission
  8. Deliberately driving conversations off topic
  9. Oversize graphics in signatures (you will be asked to trim a graphic if it is over 200x100 or violates any of the above rules)

Please remember that even if you are a member of our faith, as a poster on these privately-owned message boards, you are a guest on our service, which we provide without charge. If you violate our forums policy your posts may be pulled and you may be banned from our forums. This is not a public forum and posting here is a privilege -- not a right.

A simple rule to remember if you are unsure if a post is over the line or not: If you wouldn't say it to an individual's face within earshot of their six-year-old son or daughter, don't say it here.

Copyright Information
Unless otherwise stated, all public and private posts belong to their owners. Unless you have permission from the poster(s), you do not have the right to duplicate any material posted on our forums anywhere else. Likewise, we do not permit posting of copyrighted material to our forums without the author's prior permission. Posts containing copyrighted content will be deleted.

If you are unclear on copyright law, we suggest you check out Brad Templeton's copyright myths page for an easy to understand breakdown of common copyright myths.

Multiple Accounts
Multiple accounts assigned to the same individual are not permitted. This includes accounts that are "collective" -- e.g., a personal account for Joe-hotep and an account for Joe-hotep's business used by Joe only. If you must have more than one account due to computer or location issues, contact our moderators and we will discuss options. Registering additional accounts for reasons of duplicity (to respond to your own arguments, to flame, to get around an existing ban on another account, etc.), will result in all accounts and yourself being banned from our forums. If you should lose your password, see the FAQ for password help.

Hotlinking
Do not link to ANY images -- including avatars -- on another server without the owner's permission! This is common Internet courtesy! Relaying images takes bandwidth and without permission, is the Internet equivalent of theft.

For more information about hotlinking, read this Wikipedia article

Contacting Us
If you are trying to contact the House of Netjer directly see our contacts page.

Technical Issues
If you have suggestions for topics, are experiencing problems with our forums, or have any technical comments or questions, please send mail to the forums admin.

Enjoy!

04/20/05 07:45 PM Getting "Host you are trying to send the input from..." when posting? by Webmaster

"The host you are trying to send the input from is not a valid host"

If you're getting this error when you try to post, it's because your firewall software is not sending a http referrer. To get around this, try adding "www.netjer.org" to your trusted sites list. If that doesn't work, here's some examples on how to get around the problem with Zone Alarm.
  1. Click on Taskbar icon or whatever to bring up ZAP console
  2. Click Firewall tab and then Zones tab
  3. Click Add >> button and choose Host/Site
  4. Enter as a Trusted Zone a Host Name of www.netjer.org and give it a Description of House of Netjer Online. Use the Lookup button to ping the IP address
  5. Save with OK
  6. Click on main Privacy tab
  7. Highlight the www.netjer.org option (if it's not there you may need to shutdown and restart ZAP to apply the previous host add) and click Options
  8. Uncheck any checkboxes in any of the three Site Options tabs (Cookies, Ad Blocking, Mobile Code); most likely the ones that matter are the three in the "3rd Party Cookies" area, which is what I needed for mine, but if you still have trouble, uncheck everything that might be causing trouble
  9. Save with OK
