Title: What Egyptian Gods Do You Worship?
Post by: Following_Sekhmet on August 29, 2010, 10:53:24 am
I don't know where to place this question so I'm placing it here. I worship Sekhmet because she has come into my dreams and has called me to her service (my mother is waiting for hers to arrive). So I would love to know from all you groovy people which Egyptian Gods do you worship. Let me know, love to hear from you.

PS! Still involved with Hellenism but I'm more focused now on Sekhmet.

I worship all our gods.

Aset, Heru-wer, Wesir, Bast, Sekhmet, Hethert, Ra, Khnum, Ptah, Set, Serqet, Yinepu, Wepwawet, Nebt-het, Djehuty, Amun...

...well we do have a rather long list of gods :)

lol I would say that I give Them all worship as Netjer. But I personally focus on Sekhmet, Bast, and my Beloveds in my worship.

Hotep!  *henu*

I'd have to agree that I honor and worship all of Them.  The difference with folks that are shemsu, is that they have agreed to honor their Parent(s) first (not solely) just fist when honoring the various names of Netjer.   ^_^

Imyutimuti, are you talking about your earthly parents, you know the ones that enabled you to come into this world, or the other one. I don't want to go into anything detailed as I don't want to offend anyone. I'm fairly new to a lot of Kemetic names and terms.

Our Parents are a set of one or two Gods Who we believe made us.  We discover Them through a divination.  Mine are Set and Wepwawet-Yinepu.

I worship all of Them as asked for/necessary, my Fathers and Beloveds before others then others based on particular things I happen to be into... right now, for example, I am working with Ptah (I've taken up woodworking) and Pakhet.  My Fathers come first, though.

You will see us refer to "Aset kids" or "Wepwawet kids" etc. These are out parent gods, who (as stated) we honor first, though we are not required to honor Them only.

You'll note my parent(I have just the one) and beloveds in my signature. I honor Them first and foremost.

I also have gods outside of HON and my Kemetic practices but you wanted Egyptian gods so I'll leave the others out here. : >

I primarily worship Sekhmet, my spiritual Mother. I often pray to Djehuty, especially during fall/spring semesters. I pray to Yinepu and make offerings (Though mostly it's just talking to Him as I would my best friend). I pray to Wepwawet during my travels, especially in bad driving conditions, and I pray to Ra. I haven't really approached Amun, Who is one of my Beloveds, but I have become more aware of Him as I've become more political if that makes any sense.

All of Them.  I love and worship my Mother Sekhmet above all and have closer ties with my Beloveds.  I talk to any of Them I feel called to, and honor the other Netjeru on their special days.

Em hotep, 3467.

I worship, first and foremost, my Mother, Bast, followed by my Beloveds, Sobek-Ra, Djehuty, and Sekhmet-Hethert.

I attempt to follow the path of Ma'at in all things, so give Her honor daily.  I've asked Wenut to be patroness of my rabbitry, so I honor Her often, as well.

I also regularly honor Nut, Wesir, Khepera, Set, Khonsu, Ihy, Heru-wer, Shu, and Tefnut.  I occasionally pray to Amun, Atum, Khnum, Ptah, and Serqet.  I'd like to learn more about Nit, Seshat, and Nebt-het.

There may be a couple more Names I randomly interact with, but I can't recall them now.

Blessings and best wishes on you learning journey.

Tahai

This is great, love who you worship. I haven't done the Divination but Sekhmet came to me in a dream, two nights in a row, so I don't know if that means that she's my parent. I would really love her to be my parent but if another god is then I'm fine with that.

She also came to me in dreams and visions.  They were quite profound and changed my life.  It's wonderful you are dreaming of Her.

Daryt, I agree with you. The only problem is that I can't find any prayers to her. I've checked and they've got some good prayers but I don't know if it's fitting. Any advice would be helpful.

I personally worship All of Them - but Sekhmet first and foremost since it is She Who is my Mother.

Pray from your heart - especially to Sekhmet. There are tons of prayers on this site that have been written to Her.  I've written several, and there are others such as the ones found in Hemet's Ancient Egyptian Prayerbook that has yet others.

This is just one that I wrote some time ago. You are welcome to use it and adapt it. I certainly do not mind sharing. If you post it anywhere, however, I want credit for it. ;)

*~*~*~*~

We have come to You, Sekhmet that we may partake of Your Splendour
We fall down before You and Worship Your Majesty, both day and night.

May You take us to Your Breast as the Mother Lioness and Creatrix in Heaven..
Allow us to be in Thy Presence O' Great Mistress of Power!
May You raise us living to be with You and with Ra.
You who have given birth to Your children each and every Day
As the Horizon gives birth to Ra.

Let us enter and go forth into Your Presence.
Hail to You Sekhmet!
Glorious and Creative Mistress, Thou art beautiful as You rise triumphant and rule over the hearts of all mankind. We bring offerings to appease Your heart!
The Shrines of Heaven and of Earth come forth singing your praises!

No problem. It's your prayer and I believe that if your going to use someone's prayer that they've given you permission to use then you should credit that person. It's only proper and fair.

Hotep!  *henu*

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.  I was refering to one's spiritual Parents (in my case Nebt-het and Serqet).  The idea being that I would honor and praise Them first when honoring the various gods/goddesses of Kemet (this wouldn't apply if I'm celebrating/honoring a specific Name, the Mysteries of Wesier for example, as I'd be there to honor Wesier specifically rather than the gods of Kemet in general).

Senebty,

Hemet does a divination. Many of us knew who They were, others were totally surprised.

I praise and honor all the Names, but the Gods I've offered to and spoken to the most have been: first and foremost my Mother, Bast; my Beloveds, Nut and Amun-Ra; and also Nefertem, Heru-hekenu, Khonsu-Heru, Wadjet, Wenut, Heryshef, Wepwawet, Set, and Serqet. I'm also very interested in Satet, Anuket, Tefnut, and Menhyt.

The Kemetic Orthodox divination for Parent(s) and Beloved(s) is offered once one has graduated from the beginners course.

Thanks for sharing. I honor Isis, Ma'at, Heru, and Bast but I pray to Sekhmet and give her offering. Right now she's into coin offerings but the moment that changes then I'll change the offering. One of the plus side to doing coin offering is that you can afford things like candles and other types of offering.

I love all of the Egyptian Deities, but am particularly close to Aset and Anpu. Lately, Set has become the God that I spend the most amount of time with.  I often find myself talking to him at work or just checking in with him to see if he's still with me.  I'm in the process of making a shrine for him.

Actually, today at work someone stole $50.00 from my wallet, which I had put aside to buy his statue with. I don't imagine this made him too happy!

I have to say that I'm like that with Set too :), he's very chatty with me.  He's the first Name that got in touch with me in the Beginners class.
I'm sorry to hear about your $50 getting stolen :( as a cheaper option, you could get a cactus for Set :D...he likes them.  Or you could draw a picture of him and put it in a frame.  He should be ok with that until you get some more money for a statue.

I'm sorry about that as well. No one has the right to steal from other people. I'm not that good at drawing so I found a picture of Sekhmet and have her on my wall until the lovely lady appears in the big brown truck tomorrow. I'm still working on trying to find something to put her in, like a cabinet or something.

I'm thinking about going to the hardware store because they have things that you put on the wall that have doors and such. However I'll have to wait until next month to get it unless I can find something and let my brother give me the money. Once again, sorry about your $50.00 getting stolen.

Heh, my Aset shrine is made out of cinder blocks and shelving I cut to length. Covered with tarp for protection and as "doors" to close the shrine. She wanted a big space...She got big space.

Em-hotep,

I too worship a long list of Netjer; I'll try to list them in importance:

Amun-Ra, Horus, Djehuty, Min, Osiris, Isis, Nephtys, Sekhmet, Imhotep, Anubis, Set, Renenutet, Amentet, Heptet, Duamutef, Quebefsenuf, Imsety, Hapi, Hapy, Ankhet, Khnum, Khonsu, Mut, Ma'at, Nut, Geb, Shu, Tefnut, Sobek, Sokar, Seshat, Wadjet, (Nun, Nunet, Kuk, Kuket, Heh, Huahet, Niau, Hiaut)...oh, and Atum, Aha, Hathor and Ptah and Mafdet.

I know, I have a lot of Netjer to remember.  Sometimes I 'misplace' some of them in my life.  To be honest, I worship all Netjer, even if only saying a prayer and giving a small offering to them all as Netjer.  Though, if I was only to worship five Netjer; my most important Netjer would be Amun-Ra, Min, Djehuty, Khnum and Osiris.

Thanks. Next time I'll remember to lock my locker.  I think finding a picture is a great idea.  I found one on the internet of Set and Horus blessing a Pharaoh that was quite ovely.

He's not really chatty with me, mosty it's me prattling on like an idiot.  He hasn't said too much to me, really.  It's more like I can sense his presence with me, which I do appreciate.  When the money was stolen from me, he did remind me that I didn't need another statue of him - and just to get on with it already.  I've been stalling in approaching him until my shrine of him was complete, but I guess he isn't concerned about that.

I worship my Mother Aset first and then my Beloveds, Nebet Het and Wepwawet.  I also honor Sekhmet.  Then I honor the Netjeru of specific festivals.

I honor other gods from other pantheons aswell, but Aset comes first.

I'd like to get to know Them all (not trying to make Them sound like Pokemon! lol), but being such a cat freak I adore all the ones with feline associations. It's the whole reason I became interested in Egypt in the first place. :)
I guess it goes without saying that whatever I'm interested in/working on or what festival it is would influence Who I talk to at any given time.
To narrow it down though, I'd say mostly Sekhmet, Bast, Nefertem, and Pakhet. At one time I was trying to get to know Mafdet, but Pakhet has a closer connection to my RPD gods so I latched onto Her more. I have now become obsessed with researching Her for some reason. Also I had a dream about a jackal-guy so I want to get to know Wepwawet.
Outside of Kemet, I am fond of Kali and Shiva Nataraj. Also Hecate is sparking some interest. But I haven't really approached Them.

3467 - I highly recommend a book I recently read to you:
Bast and Sekhmet - eyes of Ra. By Storm Constantine and Eloise Coquio.
Ebay has a few so you may have luck on there.
There are visualisations and prayers / rituals you can perform for Sekhmet.

And to be honest, if you cant find a prayer -do not fear about making your own, you may enjoy it.

I personally honour all Netjer, but more focused on Bast and Ma'at.

Hi, everyone!

At the moment, I am just learning to do Senut, so I'm trying to focus on Netjer in general rather than any specific Names.
Having said that, Yinepu has been with me forever and He sort of got a bit offended with me for ignoring Him, a bit how a dog would, if you know what I mean. I felt mean for trying to ignore Him, too, so I am giving Him seperate offerings outside of the actual Senut. (This doesn't actually seem to work too well, as He hovers around during Senut anyway...). :).

I'm not sure if I should post or not because I'm just so different to everyone else. >_< I am very specifically focused on the deities I worship and I barely even acknowledge the others. I guess I take a pretty hard polytheistic view of things and so all the other Netjer might as well be part of different pantheons as far as my personal devotion and interest is concerned.

My main deity is Wepwawet/Wepwawet-Re, followed by Anubis. And although I do believe Set has had a presence in my life, I don't actually worship him. And with Hathor-Nut, I'm still trying to figure out what she's doing there but I suspect she has a relationship with the two jackals. I'm a bit of an Asyutian! (Does anybody else identify with a specific AE town/city?)

:D

As for myself, I have had little to no time for much of anything when it comes to my spiritual life, but when I do Aset is always the only One on my mind. I need to carve out more time, though, because I know my Beloved Mut is in my life a lot and She deserves more from me.

In general, though, Aset is first and foremost. My Beloveds would be next, followed by a myriad of other Names that have either poked me or otherwise gotten my attention. Mostly Wesir. :)

M Htp!

Presently I don't worship any of the Names.  I do however pray and talk to them regularly.  If they introduce themselves and talk to me, then I reciprocate.  If they don't approach me, then I don't approach them.  I'll talk to anyone who speaks to me, be it human or otherwise.  No being is ever not worth my time as I feel they may have had to overcome some obstacles to get the courage to say anything to me in the first place (speaking more about people here).
There may be certain Names that I speak to more often, but that's only because I have known them longer and a relationship already exists versus any new Names that come along.

As to cities in Ancient Egypt, I can't really say.  I never thought of the Names as being allocated to one specific geographical place, just as the people who revere them are not in the same geographical place.  I guess I'd have to say Tawy House in Joliet, IL, which is where our Nisut resides.

Currently I only worship Yinepu as no other Netjer have spoken to me yet. He is the one who lend me on the KO path and I am grateful to Him for it. Like SpiderGoddess, He also came to me in a dream and called me to the religion.

I plan to eventually get my RPD though and whoever my parent deities and beloveds are, I am certainly going to speak to them and invite them into my life.

I worship Netjer as all encompassing deity with Aset and Djehuty both making connection with me in various ways. So I really consider them to be my parents. Set and Ptah are both represented on my altar as well because their energies are reflected in my life and work.

For me, there is a "core group" of deities Whom I venerate with some regularity, particularly those Who may be categorized in some fashion or another as "Ram Gods" (Herishef, Banebdjedet, Amun, Kherty, etc.). Some of the deities with falcon theophanies seem to be prevalent also. Male solar deities and chthonic deities (for some of those Gods, They belong to both categories), and especially the "solarized" manifestations of the aforementioned (that is to say, "as synretized with Re") likewise pervade that core group. Ptah, Sobek, Set, Djehuty, and a number of the "Egyptianized" Levantine deities and Mesopotamian deities factor in as well.

However, it does vary. I don't venerate all of Them all the time, nor every time I go before Their shrine to perform rites and/or say prayers. Some of Them, such as Montu, I tend to go through seasonal cycles with (for Montu, it's the spring and summer). For others, my worshipful involvement with Them is entirely circumstantial and not the least bit regular (this is true of female deities connected to, in whatever way, the male deities I worship, though not just true of Them). For Nergal specifically, I make a point of taking time to worship/offer to Him at least once every month. For every God, I hold a deep and abiding respect, but I do not worship every single one, much less all of the time, every time. There are simply too many of Them, not enough of me, and I already worship a lot of Gods as it is! xD

Incidentally, I've noticed that where I am living does affect which deities I "feel the presence of" most strongly, which of Them seem to demand worship more immediately than others on the basis of place, and what character the worship I give Them takes on account of the aforementioned. Since my move South, I sense the presence of (especially but not necessarily limited to) Djehuty, Sobek, the Hehu/"Primordial Gods" of the Ogdoad, a few specific manifestations of Re, and especially Nergal much more strongly here than I did when I was living back up North. Part of it has to do with the kind of wildlife here, both native and imported, which to some extent resembles (if not matches, in the case of some imported species) the flora, fauna, and marshy habitats to be found in Northeast Africa and parts of the Near East. It also has to do with the "nature" of the places I am living nearby, which reflect some of the specific natures of those specific deities, and the particular realms, activities, and so on, which They govern.

For example: Anywhere there has been significant inflicted death (the South is unfortunately peppered with such places), or anywhere that disease is prevalent (basically any subtropical, swampy region where various species of fever-bearing mosquitoes breed with abandon qualifies, and there are several such places around here), I perceive Nergal's presence and dominion there, in His roles/aspects as one Who controls plague, as Underworldly Ruler, and as (Erra-Nergal) the one Who leads the Ilū Sebitti, the Seven Gods Who are best known for Their wreaking catastrophic death and destruction. So, as one might expect, the nature of the worship He receives from me while I'm living here takes on an especially propitiatious air. :P  It's obviously not the same case for every deity I perceive as "active" here, since They aren't all Nergal and don't have Nergal's precise roles/aspects, but hopefully the idea I'm attempting to convey here is coming across.  ;D

Primarily, I worship Ra. But I do honor and respect all of our Gods and Goddesses. They are all very important to me.

I worship Dhehuty first and foremost. He appeared in one of dreams a while back. It took me about a year to realize that he was calling me! I am also honoring Bast. Djehuty is also encouraging me to worship the other Gods of Hermopolis.
