Title: Greetings from the Lioness!
Post by: Ratha on May 30, 2011, 12:02:51 pm
Hello everyone,

You may call me Ratha. I'm a shamanic pagan that has awaken the lioness inside myself and found in the loving arms of Sekhmet, the Great Mother Lioness. I'm new to working with egyption gods, but I try my best to honor Sekhmet in any way possiable.

I have come to learn more about the Kemetic faith to better myself and to give honor to Sekhmet in her natural faith.

A bit about myself. I have Norse and Celtic bloodlines. I've worked with Epona, the Horse Goddess of Gaul (France) and call nature my mother. The Sun is a great force in my life, and probabaly because I'm born of the sigh of the lion (Leo). As a shamanic pagan I work with animals, and I try my hand at shapeshifting meditations. The form I took first (and only now cause its easier for me) is the lioness. When I was younger though I use to love Egypt and anything to do with it (Yes I loved the Mummy movies so much haha). I use to look at the old temples and wonder what they meant. I wanted to go to Egypt and now that I'm discovering a few unknown things about myself, I want to go even more.

Hope my bloodlines don't clash. Trust me, I'm pale blond hair and blue eye lol

Anyways hope to learn a lot.

-Ratha

Welcome Ratha!

I also have a shamanic pagan background. When I shift it usually has wings of some kind, but lion takes a nice second place. If bloodlines clashed then I'd be in trouble too. Luckily that doesn't seem to be a problem around here.

Em hotep (in peace) and welcome Ratha

YOu might find this page helpful:
http://www.kemet.org/terms_list.html

Most of us that have been around a while tend to use a few  Kemetic terms in our postings. Use of such terms is by no means required or even necessary here.

aaaand, that, my dear, has earned you a hundred extra credit points with me.

I happen to have far too many names, but the birth name is Avonell. It's a pleasure to meet you! I'm glad you have come in contact with Sekhmet. Several members of the House put me in touch with her, and it's been a fascinating experience.

To both you and Wind, I'd love to learn more about your shamanic experiences. I know nothing about shamanism, but I do love to learn!

Wow I would be honored to tell you what I've been working on in my shamanic path. I find it easier for me since I'm more simple and basic when it comes to rites and rituals. Personally rituals involving the gods are by far my favorite, I enjoy eating the offerings with them and connecting to their energy.

I will have to send you a pm sometime soon ^w^

The basic premise of journeywork, which is what we do, is that instead of asking the gods to come to us, we go to them. You do that by entering a trance state and letting your mind and spirit travel to them.

You can do this by meditation, drumming, dancing, or even drugs, which I don't recommend unless it's part of a traditional ceremony with all the important safety precautions in place. Meditation works just fine for me.

The shape shifting comes into it because when you're in the other world, you're not limited to your usual physical form. Shape shifting is good practice for learning about things from a different perspective. You don't just change your shape, your mindset also changes.

Very very true about the mind set of shapeshifting. I tend to become more bold when I'm a lioness and walk I guess 'taller' then what I normally like.

Dancing is fun. If you ever get to try it, its very powerful! I do meditation as well. Never tried drugs though >.> not sure if it would be that fun, I don't know.

I like dancing too, but that's usually more like energy work than journey work when I do it.

And I think that mind set thing may have been one explanation for Heru being a little too quick with the sword that one time. Hippos are certainly not the gentle creatures that they appear to be at the zoo.

Who is Heru?

Yeah sometimes though I need to raise up more energy to connect to the gods because sometimes they want me to learn something. Trust me, I needed the energy chasing after a white mare haha.

We call the god Heru instead of Horus, just as we call the god Wesir instead of Osiris, and the goddess Aset instead of Isis (there are a few others).

Here is the link to the Glossary of Names.

Heru is the Kemetic name for Horus, who once beheaded his own mother after a contest involving hippopotami. -cringe- She got better. So, yeah, careful with that shifting.

Oh yes, and I promised my friends that I would pass along this message to anyone wanting to learn about spirit work and energy work. "You're so screwed!" Honestly, it can mess you up especially if you're always reaching for more energy. If you haven't heard about shaman sickness yet, you should put that on your reading list. The heathens have a nice summary of it somewhere.

I've never heard of shaman sickness, but I will keep that in mind. I've done energy work for about 3 or 4 years with my boyfriend and we try not to over do it or push ourselves to the limit. I've done that once before and it hurt a lot. I blacked out on the road at 2 in the morning helping a friend of mine. Very crazy thing, lets just said she went a little nuts and started to run around outside all crazy >.>....not a midsummer's night I like to look back upon.

Shifting comes easy to me because I connect with animals better then humans. Thats why I tend to connect with animal like gods or goddesses. I have a wild nature inside me that people rarely see.

Here's that link. You should know what you're getting into.

If you're lucky, the gods won't decide that you need to be remade.

Thanks for the link, will read through it all to get a better understanding. Don't need to show my boyfriend...then he will really get worried and won't let me try any energy work at all.

I tend to just like talking and being around the gods or learning from my spiritual guides (I have 3, a snake, horse and a lioness). They always have something to teach me.

Welcome and Em Hotep!   :)

I've got a copy of Shamanic Wisdom in the Pyramid Texts by Naydler in my "to be read" pile. I'm just finishing up his Temple of the Cosmos, so I will probably solidify and internalize my understanding of that book before venturing deeper into those waters. Fascinating!
