Title: Surgery (But It's A Good Thing!)
Post by: Gezausenu on May 19, 2017, 03:47:14 pm
Em hotep, all!

After several disappointments and then some truly fortunate timing, I'm scheduled to have top surgery in July. I am fantastically excited . . . and scared poo-less by logistics.

The surgeon I'm working with is based in Colorado, so for this Wisconsinite who doesn't travel really at all, this is like planning a vacation which most assuredly will not be a vacation in the slightest. Thankfully, and to my surprise, my dad's agreed to spend a few days with me, although he's medically squeamish, so I'll have to hire some form of in-home (in this case, in-hotel) nursing care to help out until I'm lucid enough to take care of myself.

*pauses and flails*

In short, I have some of the pieces together--surgery's booked, hotel's booked--but flights and the actual process are all still pretty . . . fuzzy. Any prayers you might have to spare for this to be a smooth process, as stress-free as possible, and for a speedy-o recovery (this ain't my first rodeo, re: surgery, but drains scare me . . .) would be greatly appreciated. <3

Thank you all so very, very much.
Senebty,
Gezausenu.

Em hotep, everyone!

Thank you so very much!

Everything is still falling smoothly into place so far. I'm heartened and so grateful for all of your wonderful support! <3

Nearly everything is essentially booked, minus a few loose ends, so now I just have two months to whittle away. ;)

Honestly, one of the things I'm most looking forward to is performing Senut once I'm all pure post-op . . . being able to appear to my Gods as I truly am and all that. :)

Thank you all again so much for your support and prayers.

Senebty,
Gezausenu.

Em hotep, everyone!

Thank you all so much for your support. :) These past few months have flown.

Speaking of, I fly out of Milwaukee tomorrow morning--bright'n'early, which means getting to the airport at four--glad I'm a barista, haha, and used to that stuff. I've run into a couple glitches (namely, the in-home CNA's aren't allowed by Colorado state law to help with bandage changes?! *disgruntled flump*) but I think everything should be okay in the long run. ^_^

Gods, it's weird though. The day after tomorrow, the 18th, and it'll all be over. Whooo. (That's also the first-year anniversary of my RPD, haha, which makes it all the more special. While I had inklings of my identity pre-RPD, without Papa and Mama, honestly, I wouldn't have had the courage the realize who I am--I'd still have kept repressing it and deluding myself.)

Dua Set, dua Sekhmet.

Many thanks again! I will have my laptop with me, so I will hopefully be able to keep you all posted once I'm lucid.

Senebty,
Gezausenu.

Em hotep, all!

Thank you so much for your prayers. Everything seems to be going well--surgery lasted an hour longer than they thought, but I came out of the anesthesia okay and haven't had tummy troubles. I basically feel like I'm wrapped in a corset, haha, and the pain isn't great, but it'll all get better with time. (The drains aren't as scary as I thought, haha.)

Also, I got such feels from Papa and Mama, yesterday especially, both pre- and post-op. I love my Parents so. ♡

Thank you all again, for everything. :)

Senebty,
Gezausenu.

Em hotep, all!

Thank you again. <3 I believe my drains can come out tomorrow (finally! woof) and apart from GI issues due to the antibiotics and stress, I'm doing quite peachily. (For better or worse, I was too stubborn to take the narcotics starting the day after surgery. Set-kid, anyone?) ;)

My dad went home yesterday. It's rather nice to be alone. The trip, if nothing else, highlighted how distant we've grown and the gap in our relationship. It was pleasant to have him here, even if our interactions weren't always good--we rather walked on eggshells around each other--but it's also given me food for thought in how our relationship might be down the road, and a realistic picture of what it is now.

Anyway, thank you all. Even though everything looks pretty scary and bruised and swollen now, it's all healing well and every day is better than the last. Dua Sekhmet! ^_^

Senebty,
Gezausenu.

Em hotep, all!

*deep breath*

So. My first post-op follow-up appointment today . . . did not go well.

Basically things aren't healing the way the surgeon expected. There's more swelling than he'd have thought--he said "Well it doesn't feel like a hematoma?"--and one, uhm, nipple is apparently "struggling for blood supply."

This is made all the more rattling by the fact that my dad's gone (for however distant we are, he was here), and the caregiver service I engaged is . . . not good. Not good at all. I have no trust in them, whatsoever, which essentially means I'm dealing with all of this alone. Not a big deal when everything's going well, but when it's not?

I have one more appointment Thursday, before I head home Friday (I hope?). I'm honestly frightened about what they'll say then. The surgeon had no bedside manner, nor did the nurse who assisted. I wasn't given time to ask questions, or even express my fear. Or the fact that, sure, taking off the ace wrap to apply ointment twice a day is fine, but . . . well, I don't know if I'll be able to rewrap myself?

I've since called the office to put in a message with the nurse who's helped me pre-op, and she's a sweetpea, so hopefully she'll be able to help undo some of this rattling that's been done.

I honestly thought all this was going great. Welp. Guess not.

*flumps*

Prayers to Mama Sekhmet that this isn't as bad as it seems would be very much appreciated, and that my body heals the way its supposed to. <3

Thank you all.

Senebty,
Gezausenu.

Em hotep nefer, all!

First, dua Set, and dua Sekhmet! (Both have had Their hands in this I think, haha.)

Second, the appointment today went so much better than I could have hoped for. Thank you so, so much for your continued prayers and support and love. <3

Essentially, the swelling is sloooowly subsiding, and as it turns out--not to get all TMI on y'all--but my li'l nip is a fighter! Apparently beneath all the scabbing mess there's healthy pink skin. It's not for sure going to make it but I sure feel a lot better than Monday (when I basically felt like a nipple killer--such weight to bear, that was).

The drains came out as well, and holy Gods, I feel so much better. Contrary to my previous experience with drains (which hurt horribly), these didn't hurt at all to remove! I get to wear a handy compression vest for a month or so, but still, it's fantastic to look in the mirror and know that that isn't a binder squishing things--what's there is just my chest, albeit swollen as it heals. <3

I'm praying that I'll be pure enough for Wep Ronpet, but even if not, there's much to celebrate and be grateful for.

I'll leave you now with what I said when waking up from the anesthesia, slurred-sleepy speech and all, just to end things on a light note. :)

Senebty,
Gezausenu.

Me: "You know, the best part of being a Trekkie is that I'm sitting here thinking how much easier this would be in the 23rd century."
My dad, after a pause: "Uhm, yeah. I guess. Just wave a wand and make it better."
Me: ". . . That's the wrong universe, Dad."

Just wanted to pop in and say thank you, once again, everyone. <3 Your love and prayers never cease to astound me. I am so, so grateful to have such support from my spiritual family.

Being home is amazing. Back in my li'l apartment, with my shrine, and Odo, and my nice hard bed (lol, I'm weird like that), and familiar places and my friends. I do miss the hotel's AC, but goodness . . . home is good. <3

I'm glad a few of y'all liked my little ST sleepy-comment, hehe. I'm honestly pretty amused by it, too. Of all the things to say . . . that's what my anesthesia-riddled brain comes up with. *snort*

Senebty,

Congratulations on your top surgery!! I plan on getting it myself (I'm a trans man), so reading happy endings always gives me hope for the future! So thank you for that <3

But yeah I'm very glad to see it went well! It must've been a bit nerve-racking but I know the pay off is more than anyone could imagine. And with Wep Ronpet going on right now, it seems like you're really coming into a new era in life! I'm very proud of you to have made it this far, and I'm sure the rest of your healing will go smoothly and painlessly.

Prayers! and congrats again!! <3
