Em Hotep!
Last week's Wednesday, while I was at Retreat, I called Julia and found she was sick with what she thought was food poisoning. It seemed like maybe she was getting better. She picked me up at the airport Sunday and we went to Asian Star, where she had egg drop soup. That was the only thing she's eaten since that Wednesday.
She got worse, with more pain. Today, (which by now is "yesterday"), her pain level was at a level "9", so I took her to the emergency. They did a Cat Scan and X-rays, found her lower intestine really inflamed. They put her on an IV drip of medicine called Flagyl and some strong pain reliever. They think she'll need to be there three to four days or so.
Prayers that she gets well soon!
Senebty,
Neheh...

Prayers. Hospitals are no fun! I hope she gets better quick so you can both be at home.

Thank you all, dear friends!
When I visited Julia tonight, she looked much better. Surprisingly, the 'Go lightly' drink that is required before a colonoscopy actually made her feel better, more so than the potent narcotics. After the colonoscopy, we'll know more what is/are the cause(s) of the vexation.
Thank you all again for all your prayers,
<3

Julia is home from the hospital! The biopsy came back negative, no cancer! She has infectious colitis, and will know more in a couple of weeks when she sees the gastroenterologist.
Thank you again for all your prayers, they mean a lot.

I'm very glad she's home!! I pray that she receives a swift and painless recovery, and that the visit with her gastroenterologist goes well!

I'm so glad to hear that Julia is home! I hope that the gastroenterologist is able to come up with solutions that will result in a quick and comfortable recovery for her.

Whoo, nekhtet! I'm glad Julia is home and that the biopsy didn't come back with scary teeth. Prayers that the gastroenterologist will be able to help treat her condition and that her recovery goes smoothly!

Em Hotep!
There's been new developments:
Julia's fall this weekend may have been caused by something unrelated to the colitis. She's had great difficulty moving around, and even speaking since then. Sometimes her speech is very slurred. Evie, who lives across the street, thinks the same thing as I fear. Julia may have had a stroke!
She woke me up to help her get up to pee. But she couldn't remember how to get out of the bed!
We had to call the paramedics, who are taking her to ER.
I will go there in my car in a bit.
I could cry and cry and cry...
Thank you all for your prayers,
Neheh...

Thank you all for the prayers!
I'm back from hospital.
Julia's weakness and etc. isn't due to a stroke. She has electrolyte imbalance and low sodium. They said that will do that to a person.
So I'm relieved. We haven't lost Julia yet. The doctors in MOSI (mid grade ICU) will coordinate with Dr. Miller who did the colonoscopy to figure out the best course of treatment.
Whew!
Senebty,
Neheh...

Nekhtet, dear Neheh. ♡ Many continued prayers that Julia improves with corrected electrolytes and rest. May Mama Sekhmet bless you both, and the work of all the doctors.

Thank you all for your prayers.
Here's praying they find a pain medicine Julia can tolerate. While she had been doing well with Dilaudil, last night it gave her a seizure. (She's never had a seizure before.) As they had moved her down to the regular rooms, I had to think what might have happened should I not have been there to push the alert nurse button! (Now she's back in the area where the vitals monitors immediately alert the nurse if something goes awry, like wildly rapid heartbeat.)
Scary night!
Love to you all!

Em Hotep!
Here's the latest update. Julia had two tests last night, a scan of her lungs, and of the blood vessels in her abdomen. Dr Kumar called at 8:15pm with the results. Julia has no infection in her colon, but rather her colon isn't getting proper blood supply. It's dying. This requires surgery, but this surgery can't be done in Yuma. Julia was airlifted to St. Joseph's in Phoenix.
At 12:45am, they didn't have the surgery scheduled yet. I will call later this morning.
WHY, why, oh WHY didn't they learn this the first time she was in the ER? I fear too much colon death has already occurred!
Thank you again for all your prayers!
Senebty,
Neheh....
-
Em Hotep!
Julia was in radiology for nearly five hours. They found she has Arterial Venous Malformation, which means the blood is being shunted away from the rectum. They were coiling and cauterizing the vein that was the issue. They didn't get all of it, but they got most of it. Julia is in less pain. They will do more work tomorrow to get what they couldn't today.
Julia sounded weak, but there is a tone of hopefulness to her voice. We have hope! Dua Netjer!
Thank again for all your prayers! <3
Senebty,

Continued prayers, Neheh! St. Joe's -- incidentally, where I was born -- is a good place, and not far from where I am, so please, don't hesitate to call on me if you need an extra hand or two.
-
Thank you all! That's good to know, Ushedimuti! How cool you were born there! We have a friend who's a doctor there in Phoenix, Becky Allison, and she sang St. Joe's praises, too. Doctors know these things, :)
I talked to Julia tonight. She's sounding ALOT better.
Maybe I can start to feel a little relieved, and stay relieved?
Thank you all for your prayers and heka! <3
Blessings to all of you,

Em Hotep, Everyone!
Yesterday morning Julia sounded good and thought she might be released. Last night, she was again in awful pain, like she was when she went in. She's now shunning food. They're keeping her electolytes and sodium up via pills.
She has mobility issues. It sometimes takes two people to help her up. This doesn't sound like a person that's going to be released any time soon.
I'm waiting on the nurse's report, (she's waiting for the records to be updated.)
My friends who are giving me a ride there so I can at least see Julia briefly in the event release isn't imminent, are on standby.
Thank you all for your prayers,
Senebty,
Neheh...
-
Em Hotep!
Just Becky took me up to see Julia. It was a good trip. Julia is very weak, and cannot stand on her own. The doctors are trying to decide whether it is to a nursing home or a rehab that she will be sent. (I pray it is not a nursing home!) At least it will be somewhere in Yuma, as far as I understand this.
The nurses have both my home and work phone numbers, written on the "chalk" board in the room. (No cell phone.) I sure hope they don't decide anything without consulting me!
Thank you again for your many prayers.
Senebty!

Neheh, I am praying so intently for you both. I can't imagine how hard this must be. I love you.

Em Hotep!
The next stage in Julia's care is underway! Thanks to the help of our friend, who rushed to the hospital at a moment's notice, Julia is now in a rehab place very near here. It's a nice place!
I went their after work and signed a ream of paperwork. By the time I got done with the paperwork, I heard some familiar voices out in the lobby!
I got to hear the nurse's interview with Julia. They ask the patient's choices on all things. I was SO relieved when they asked if we wanted a feeding tube, should Julia not eat. I was so relieved we could say we don't want that, nor to be put on artificial respirators.
I was looking through Julia's stuff when I saw a beautiful card from our Rev. Meres! She visited Julia last night, and had a lovely little conversation with Julia. Yes, Julia remembered Meres from our gathering last year! <3
Thank the Netjeru for all of you who are praying. It means the world to me.
I'm feeling much more at peace...

It's been a while, time for an update!
Julia's still at the Care Center, trying to regain her strength and mobility. She's getting over a nasty infection. But she's eating now and looking better. She still has pain, but I'm nervously hopeful! Thank you all for all your prayers and good thoughts!

Em Hotep, Everyone!
I'm so grateful to have something hopeful to report!
I learned the reason Julia's been in better spirits the last couple of days! She can get out of bed on her own! Granted, the bed has to be raised up high, but she no longer has to call a helper to get to the bathroom!
(Of lesser excitement, but still nice: the first blocking of the finished needlepoint is done, and the lines are drawn for the new Hathor needlepoint.)
http://joanannlansberry.com/journal/arch2017/set1stbk.jpg
It doesn't look that crooked in person, but yes, another blocking is necessary.
http://joanannlansberry.com/journal/arch2017/nuhathor1.jpg
I fudged some of the lines, but I think I'll be able to figure out what I mean.
(And I found the checkbook I thought I'd lost!)
Dua Netjer! Dua Netjer! Dua Netjer! <3
Thanks for all your prayers!

Your pictures are so gorgeous! Needlepoint ...would have never thought about that art medium. I can't wait to see the finished Hethert one. Are you by chance thinking of making these available for folks to purchase? I'd be interested.

Em Hotep, Everyone!
Thank you so much for your prayers. Julia had such an encouraging weekend. While I was visiting Sunday, three of her Bahai friends came in and we all had a nice visit. Julia was happy to have a small shortwave radio, and they helped her tune it to the local public radio station at the college. It's only the AM version, but it brings her comfort.
This Monday, poor Julia didn't have such a good day. Her physical therapy didn't go so well. While she has been able to stand on her own if her wheel chair has three pillows under her, they wanted her to stand up with only one pillow under her. She wasn't able to do it! She felt so bad that she was so weak.
She is getting discouraged and fears she will not get well. Her nausea and diarrhea continue.
And because Julia's spirits are low, my spirits are low!
Thank you so much for your prayers. They means so much.
Also, thank you for the good words about my needlepoint art. When I finish the new needlepoint of Hethert, I may offer the first version, possibly for auction. (But that will be some time, as needlepoint isn't a fast art, :) )
It is comforting to see her face come into being on the new piece. Somehow I've got her eyes just right, they look "alive" somehow.
One day at a time...

Oh, Neheh, I'm so sorry that Julia's having a rough time. :( Continued prayers for her recovery and the strength of her spirits. I know how frustrating it is to be unable to do what once you did without thought, even if you know logically that healing is a process.
Much love to both of you. May Mama Sekhmet preside over Julia's healing, may Papa Set grant you both strength, and may Ptah give to you both His infinite peace.
Senebty,
Gezausenu.
-
Thank you all so much for your prayers! <3 ! They mean so much. Julia has been in better spirits. Progress is slow, but there is progress. She's getting more appealing meals these days, and when I visit, I bring some liquid yogurt, to help her have some probiotics.
She's not taking the antibiotics anymore. They will test to see if the C-diff is gone. She's supposed to see her regular doctor on Tuesday? The care center may transport her?
I think often of the line in Senut, "May Ptah free us from terror."
We will still get afraid. Quite often, fear is a normal response to uncertain possible events. Just understanding that, with Ptah's help, I can keep the fear from turning into terror.
One day at a time, one day at a time.
Thank you again so much for your prayers! <3
Senebty and Hugs!

Em Hotep, Everyone!
Julia's been slowly improving. They moved her earlier this week to a private room with a shower. The nurse's assistant said they do that when a patient is about to be released.
Julia called me at work yesterday, she is to be released this Saturday at 1 o'clock. While her mobility is pretty good, she still has the C-diff. She said she'll be coming home with antibiotics to take. I'll be endeavoring to make sure we have abundant bleach and that all protections can be taken against the bugs.
Nearly two weeks ago, I got a thorn in my finger while removing weeds. I hoped it would work itself out. It didn't. I might have driven it in further by trying to squeeze it like a pimple. I think I'm going to have to have a nurse or doctor get it out. I tried the online instructions of using a needle and alcohol. Some nasty colored liquid came out of it and the swelling went down and the pain is somewhat relieved, but I still can't see the thorn.
Yes, I know, I should have worn gloves!
Thank you all again for all your prayers! <3
Seneby and Hugs,

A kindly doctor (who trains the interns) took all he could of the thorn out. It's healing.
Em Hotep, Everyone!
Julia's home now, after some delays. I picked her up yesterday morning. She left before receiving all of her medicine. I didn't realize the gravity of this, or I would have went into the Life Center to ask about this last night. Hopefully, I can still pick it up this morning. (She has packets, clearly labeled, for the others.)
(She was so impatient to get out of there, after having a bad night. They had a real problem getting the last of her iron transfusions in, as her veins are tiny and so many are collapsed.)
Julia's walking slow, but she's walking. She doesn't need a walker. I did get her an elevated commode, that goes over the toilet, to assist in her getting up from it.
One day at a day...
Thank you for your prayers and heka.
