Title: Salutations!
Post by: NeighbourhoodWitch on January 06, 2019, 01:50:30 am
Hello all!

I've recently applied to the beginner's course, and thought it pertinent to introduce myself here while I await my verdict. I'm... well, I suppose you can call me Witch for now - internet privacy and all!

I live in rural Australia where I tend cattle for a living - they're my favourite animal and bring my heart great joy. In my free time (what's free time?), I enjoy knitting, reading, gardening and tea. I'm drawn to Hethert for bovine-based reasons and Nephthys for *shrug*-based ones. Who knows?

I'm looking forward to hopefully paricipating in the course in February: I haven't made up my mind just yet on how I feel about this whole kemetic thing, but I do believe that community and scholarly pursuit are vital to religion!

Senebty,
(That is what I say -- right?)

Em hotep and welcome to the community! I hope you enjoy the class, and in the meantime please don't hesitate to ask any questions :)

And yes, "senebty" is normally what we say. It means "May you be healthy." You can find a list of other Kemetic terms that we use here: http://www.kemet.org/kemetic-terms

As for the "verdict," you won't be getting an acceptance or denial until right before the class is ready to start, and it will just be information about the class instead of "Congratulations, you have been Accepted." ^^;

Thank you all for the warm welcome -- you really know how to give a newbie a boost of confidence!

Sedjosry, I'd absolutely love to share some cattle pics with you some time -- anybody who lets me ramble about my girls is a rare blessing!

Em hotep and welcome :D Community and research, in whatever form they come, are two things I've found vital to my time as a Kemetic as well.

Also, about the verdict...I think most people get in as long as they have done nothing wrong? So if you were/are worried, don't worry about that too much!

Em hotep, Witch.

I work with Hethert (Hathor). If you ever want to talk about Her I would be happy to.

Much love,

Ibi

Em hotep!

Tending cattle for a living sounds like a lot of work!  I can't imagine.  Sounds like it's good though, if they're your favorite animal.  (:  I see you like to read.  What type of books?  Do you have a favorite author?

My favorite tea is jasmine, but I like anything floral.  How about you?  ^.^

It's very nice to meet you, and I hope you find something of value from the beginner's class.  You may seem in the IRC chats, as my daughter is taking them as well.  If you have questions, thoughts, or just want a friend, feel free to PM me.  I'm also available via email  - shukheperasankhi@gmail.com

Oh my gosh -- you folk are too kind! Ibi, I may take you up on the offer to talk about Hethert; she's pretty great.

Shu: You know how they say that if you love your job, you don't work a day in your life? Well, it's not true  :P But I do love it! I'm pretty eclectic as far as books are concerned, but my top genres are definitely, in order, horror, sci-fi, fantasy and romance. My favourite author is Marlon James... who, incidentally, doesn't write any of those genres! (Yet... he's releasing a fantasy book this year. I'm excited!) As for tea? I can't deny a good cup of Irish Breakfast, and I'm also partial to a good lapsang souchong. I'm still seeking my longjing holy grail!

Em hotep, and welcome! What a life you seem to lead! Hethert is wonderful, though I have less experience with Nebthet- She is a very intriguing Name to me, though!

I hope you enjoy the Class, I found that it helped lead me from a bit of an Orthodoxy skeptic into... well who I am now. c: It brings a lot of insight.

Enjoy your pursuit of knowledge, friend!

I definitely know what you mean! I work in education and I love my job, but some days I am so frustrated I want to cry. It’s a balance, like most things XD

I’ve never heard of Marlon James. Recommend a book? I love new obsessions :p I think my genre preference is pretty close to yours! I might once in awhile swap fantasy and sci-if though.

Hm, I’ve never heard of longjing. Why is it a holy grail? Hard to find?

Longjing is also called dragon well, and I'm still looking for my holy grail because it can be really hit and miss - the quality between brands varies enormously, and it can make one dragon well taste totally different from another. Blech.

James actually won a Man Booker prize for his novel, A Brief History of Seven Killings. If you like Jamaica, the 70's and drug cartels, I'd recommend that. If you like slave uprisings and a bit of witchery, I'd recommend The Book Of Night Women. If you like religious and sexual hysteria, then it's John Crow's Devil. He's also releasing a fantasy book soon - Black Leopard, Red Wolf.

My partner Julia and I are big tea drinkers.  We have the dragon well tea sometimes.  We love white teas, also qi dan, which is original bush version of "big red robe" (da hong pao). There are "big red robe" versions out there which are meh, so that's similar to the dragon well. (I had to ask Julia about the spellings.)  A basic organic green tea is nice, too.  (I try to avoid black teas on account of the caffeine.  Getting old, pffft!  Bye bye chocolate, and much citrus, too.  Pfft!)  But fortunately the other teas are good for me.

These all sounds amazing!  I'll definitely have to look into them... you know, when I have some spare time!  Good luck with the tea search <3

A good longjing is suuuuper to die for. I feel the same way about jin xuan (milk oolong). So much garbage, but the treasure remains...

I've yet to try milk oolong, but I'm dying to! Do you have one you'd recommend?
