[PUBLIC] Netjer (Our Gods & Goddesses) / Re: The "Eye of Heru" concept

There are lots of layers to the Eye. Wholeness, protection, restoration, healing, totality and it can be given as an offering as well. So whenever I look at it, I think of those things.

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Re: Does Apep have any modern relevance?
« on: January 17, 2015, 10:25:05 pm »
I'm not sure if this would be helpful for the OP, but KRT has discussed a/pep and modern practices, which may be helpful for understanding it, or understanding how Kemetics interpret it's role in their practice.

I am super late to this thread, but I have offered cannabis to Set and Osiris, and it seemed to go over well. It's expensive to procure, and helps medicate my body (self-care, shadow work), so I felt it was okay to offer it up to them.

They didn't seem to have a problem with it.

Not sure if asking about lovers or loners? Typo maybe?
Loners- definitely Set. I also think that Osiris could have interesting insight to that, as could Atum (UPG reasons, here).
As for fate- such a thing did exist in ancient Egypt. Look into Shai (http://henadology.wordpress.com/theology/netjeru/shai/) to learn more about that.

What does the RPD mean to you?

For me, the RPD is about joining the KO community. It rebirths you, or inducts you into the community, and assigns gods to you in a similar way that you would have had community, family, and Nome gods in antiquity. So for me, the RPD is less about gods that want to be close to you and more about becoming a part of the community (which is kinda how Shinto works, so it makes sense to me).

Why did or didn't you choose to take the RPD?

Because I view RPD more about community/KO and less about gods that want to be your besties, I didn't really feel comfortable getting an RPD done because I don't feel I fit in well with the KO community. I had absolutely no need to confirm which gods are most present in my life, which is one of the many reasons people get the RPD. Combined with my lack of fitting in with KO, it really just seemed like a no brainer to me. If I had been able to find a niche within KO that worked well for me, I might have considered getting it done (and I toyed around with this idea for a long time). However, that never happened and I moved on to other things. So the RPD is really not even on my radar anymore.

Back when I lived by the Colorado river, I often viewed it similarly to the Nile- since it is a huge source of life for the SW. So when I went to the river, I'd often feel connected to Osiris, who I largely associate with rivers.
So I think it's possible for local terrain to be associated with various NTRW. I'd just make sure that they're okay with it (and that local spirits are okay with it), too. As was mentioned above- if you get a "please don't" feeling, then you should probably listen to it. But otherwise, I don't see an issue with it.

[PUBLIC] Netjer (Our Gods & Goddesses) / Re: God's Manifestations
« on: September 20, 2014, 08:20:57 pm »
KO Is a polytheist religion, so technically it's more about different gods existing, though most got their start from an initial Creator deity (although there are many creation myths and Creator deities to pick from).

So I wouldn't really say it's necessarily a matter of "god" manifesting as many deities, though some make choose to view it that way.

As for antiquity, it also depends. There are parts of AE history where the worship was more polytheistic, many times it was monolatrous, and towards the later periods, it became henotheistic in many ways. So really, all forms of interpretation or worship are valid when it comes to NTRW.

Considering this as 'is this a KO thing', no, it isn't. 'Is this a kemetic thing'? Well, it still isn't. 'Is this something *some kemetics* do in ther practice?' Well, definitely. It just isn't something that's part of *the religion*, whether one takes into account kemetism as a whole or Kemetic Orthodoxy specifically. Whether it's *individual* practice or part of spiritual life is another question. (And one could argue a kemetic practicing something makes it kemetic by the virtue of *them* being kemetic, so, -arh.)

Maybe I'm confused. But sayig it's not a Kemetic thing... and then saying "but some Kemetics do it"... technically... that would make it a Kemetic thing, afaict.

I personally don't understand why people get so quicked out over the possibility of having sexual and non-familiar relations with the gods. It's a thing, it's a documented thing in many cultures, and there are multiple Kemetics who have relationships with the NTRW that aren't quite familial. Some of which have sexual elements, some of which don't. Just depends on the specifics.

I would agree that KO doesn't really allow for non-familiar encounters (esp considering that Hemet herself seems to dislike the notion). However, there are other parts of the Kemetic community at large that are okay with it.

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Re: Are Separate Shrines Required?
« on: November 29, 2013, 09:00:22 pm »
To my knowledge, you can have everyone on one shrine, or have separate shrines. Just depends on what you want to do and how you work.

I think the Fear people speak of isn't the dark Fear we often think of, but a Healthy Respect, From my views:

The Netjeru are big and powerful, we are like little ants compared to what they know and are, and we (should) have a love for them, because of the things they do for us, the fact that they created life and are the reason we are living (whether we are living on earth or with them) and the fact that they are always there to offer guidance and love. Netjer loves every single one of us without condition, but that doesn't stop Netjer from being very angry/upset when we do something that goes against Balance and Goodness, and it also doesn't stop them from punishing us; like two weeks of bad luck or whatever they see fit. If you are obedient to the gods then you can achieve the full potential they gave you. And despite human's imperfect ways Netjer is always there for us. And all these reasons are why many have a 'healthy respect' for the Netjeru.

That's my two cents anyway.

idk if i agree, honestly. Nothing says NTR has to be full of love and light. There are plenty of times when NTRW are less then ideal and don't always do right by one another or by people. NTRW, like people, are allowed to like and dislike peeps as they see fit. Its within their limits to tell you to piss off with no real reason other than they feel like it, etc. I also think its fully within a NTRW to feel disdain for a person or to not want to work with a person. Or to even be a flat out jerk to a person.
I think a lot of modern folks like to view NTRW as being way happier than they might have been in the past. Esp when you consider a popular epithet was Lord of Dread (f'ex- its an epithet that Osiris carries, of all things). and that certain people required protection from certain gods- lest they eat your heart (see the PT).
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I don't think its safe to always assume that NTRW are always nice all the time, or that NTRW always have your best intentions at heart, etc.

*the above is regarded as a more generalized statement for people to consider and less directed at the person quoted.

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Re: Rocky relationships with RPD Parents?
« on: September 26, 2013, 03:44:31 pm »
I'm not divined as a member of KO, but I can say that relationships with NTR can go sour, or go south, and that NTR aren't always the nicest folks around. So even if it hasn't occurred with an RPD person, I can guarantee you its happened in general, in the Kemetic sphere.
I do agree that figuring out why it is that you dislike the deity, or why you don't get along can be enlightening, but it doesn't necessarily mean that that will fix everything. Sometimes, much like with people, gods don't like a particular person (or vice versa) or sometimes things happen btwn a deity and the devotee and there is no fixing hte relationship.
How you'd remedy that or come to terms with that in regards to an RPD, I can't say. But its been a discussion that Kemetics have been having lately, off and on- figuring out what to do if a deity/devotee relationship doesn't pan out.

Not sure if helpful. I knwo that because I don't have an RPD, my experience likely won't count for much, but there it is, all the same.

[PUBLIC] FAQ: RPD (Rite of Parent Divination) / Re: Patterns
« on: April 30, 2013, 11:04:56 am »
I've seen Hemet mention it before, and I believe it's floating in teh AtN archives- so I'd go searching there. Be ready to sift through years worth of posts to find the relevant stuff, tho :P

Aset, AFAIK, will not allow anyone else to be a parent with her.
Wpwt and Anup almost always come together.
If you get Set as a parent, you will get Heru-wer as a beloved.

I'm sure there are others, but I've forgotten a lot of them now. Perhaps asking Hemet directly in the AtN forum would be good- as she might have an actual list of them.
