Water is always a good and acceptable offering, and is my go to. I often do Senut with no offerings other than water. So that is a good staple that is often available for reasonably cheap (not in all places, unfortunately). Netjer and our Akhu always understand limitations like that, and don't blame us in the slightest. <3

I have 'Lady of the Borders of Places' on my list of Sekhmet epithets. Not sure the original source for it, though I'm pretty sure I got it from the LAGG. It's probably more in the sense of protecting the borders, but it still feels very liminal to me.

And as Neshnyt says, very much Set. I have very liminal Parents.  :P

Em hotep all,

I know many of us are appalled by the current treatment of immigrants and refugees in the United States. While treatment of immigrants and refugees has been increasingly inhumane all over the world, the US actions in recent news is a low that is hitting very close to home for many of us. There are many ways that we, as upholders of ma'at, can work to change these policies, including speaking up, educating others, donations, etc.

But sometimes we can't do that, or feel a need to do something else.

I wrote this prayer to my Father, Set, as something that can be said as a way to use heka to bolster the efforts of people working to enact change around how the US (and other countries) act towards immigrants and refugees. Please feel free to use as you see fit. Sharing is also welcome!

I have encountered Kalfou once, and the energy he had was quite different to how I 'feel' Wepwawet and Yinepu. Did not feel analogous at all to me.

To my understanding, we can make comparisons between Netjer and other beings, but only in the sense of us humans liking to put things in boxes together based on similar traits, not due to any inherent connection between them.

I got a new shrine cabinet recently, just finished cleaning it and moving things over to it last night!

Featuring lovely art by Gezausenu of Sekhmet and Ma'at over the Senut shrine portion, and my letter from Awibemhethert's love letter's project behind Sekhmet on the upper shelf!

On the upper shelf you can also (barely) see my lovely handmade icons for various Netjer, aka I wrote Their Names on rocks in sharpie. Very fancy. :P (I jest, I actually quite like them. Though my handwriting on some of them is atrocious.)

My old shrine cloth is much too big for the new space, so I need to find a decent replacement at some point, I'm not a huge fan of how it looks all folded up to fit the smaller space...

Aaaaaand, my akhu shrine! There are a few items I want to add to it that are with my parents right now (a Mary statue from my grandmother, a toy my great grandmother gave me, dried flowers from my grandmother's funeral, the patch of my grandfather's WW2 unit, some of my great-aunt's jewelry, etc, which I am listing here so I remember them myself next time I'm visiting the parents and have time to look for them, aha)

Still working on re-making my petjeri shrine (nickname for the pet shrine, since they're netjeri, not akhu), so it's not pictured here. I'll edit it in once it's set up.

Glad it helped! Again, the breaking itself is likely mundane in nature, but the result of the breaking can be utilized to represent or celebrate your new beginning, which is great symbolism, I think.  ;)

I think this kind of question is often in the Living Kemetic Orthodox  forum-thread-thing, which is private, but I think you should have access to it as a beginner?

To answer your question: things break. They just do, and oftentimes it doesn't mean anything other than 'it had some wear and tear.' And if you've been wearing it for a year, it's certainly gotten some wear and tear.

You could try to restring it/remake it with the same beads or get something new. If you really do think it's a sign/message, I would interpret it more in the sense of having a chance to recreate the bracelet better than before! (maybe a metaphor for something here, perhaps a new way of looking at your relationship with Netjer?) 

On a personal level, one time I was stringing some beads for Set and the thread broke. I was worried He didn't like it, then realized I had dropped one of the beads on the floor. Turns out He just wanted all the beads. So even things that may appear like bad signs at first could be totally not bad at all.

In summary, I do not think it is a negative sign, if it is a sign at all. Chances are higher that it is a perfectly mundane breakage. =)

I'm of the same opinion as Bestekeni, decide for yourself. If you are getting Bast-Mut feelings, than it is a fine representation for Her. Basically, if you think it looks like Bast-Mut and you would like having it, than it is a good representation of Her for your purposes.

Alas, a lot of the work on Nefertem does not seem to be in English.
I do have a few notes on him though, I'll share:

- Found referenced on 'Heru on the Crocodiles' amulets/stelae, where he is sometimes referred to as "Nefertem, Protector of the Two Lands": the purpose of the amulet is to provide healing for scorpion stings/snake bites/other wounds from poisonous / venomous creatures

- Mentioned in Pyramid Texts, 'W. [Wesir?] comes forth as Nefertem, as the lotus at the nose of Ra'

- Depected wearing a headress of an open lotus flower with menat on either side, with two tall feathers in the middle

- Sometimes shown carrying a weapon resembling a khopesh, sometimes with an ankh and/or was scepter

- In a relief at Medinet Habu the Nisut Seti I is depicted addressing Nefertem with the words:
"The god is content, content, with his overflowings. Nefertem is content with his overflowing. The one who belongs to the sky, his arm is to the earth, and vice versa. A boon which the king gives. The king is vigorous with life, I being pure."

- Referred to as 'Lord of Offerings'

- In general, he takes on a lot of aspects of His mother, Sekhmet in regards to healing and in some cases fighting/war
Especially healing. I believe he's one of the Top Netjer you would ask specifically for healing (Sekhmet, Serqet, Nefertem, and Imhotep are often considered 'healers')
His temples were places people would go for healing.

- Also referred to as a 'son of Atum'

- Can be syncretized as Nefertem-Heru(-sa-Aset) and Nefertem-Ra

- Also as Nefertem-Imhotep, a national Akh (deified human, basically)

If you can get your hands on George Hart's 'A Dictionary of Egyptian Gods and Goddesses,' I'd recommend checking it out, and there's another God/dess 'Dictionary' I really like but can't remember the name of... Got to check my notes.

EDIT: FOUND IT, and Hart's book.

Hart's dictionary doesn't have much more to add other than Nefertem can take leonin/lion headed form and may be a son of Bast or Wadjet as well (Like his origin, all of these Names can simultaneously be his mother).

The other dictionary was Wilkinson's Complete Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Egypt, major new/additional stuff listed below:

- Strong association w/ Ra

- Also says he is sometimes the son of Wadjet and Bast, though Sekhmet is most common

- Sometimes he is depicted standing on a lion

- Some representations of him as a child's head emerging from a lotus blossom

- The head in lotus is where Tutenkhamun comes in: famous representation of his head coming from the lotus, Wilkinson says it is likely a way to represent the Nisut Tut as Nefertem and Heru-sa-Aset. So Nefertem and HSA because he was young, I think, but also to emphasize the kingship element. (Especially if the depiction is of Nefertem-Heru)

- Wilkinson says he was primarily on royal and divine monuments, and sometimes feared due to his mother.

- Association with lotus = association to creation story = regeneration and rebirth as areas of his (likely leading to his healing association, imo)


Ok, I think that's all I have on Nefertem. Hope at least some of it was helpful.  :P
