Em hotep and welcome to the community! I hope you enjoy the class, and in the meantime please don't hesitate to ask any questions :)

And yes, "senebty" is normally what we say. It means "May you be healthy." You can find a list of other Kemetic terms that we use here: http://www.kemet.org/kemetic-terms

[PUBLIC] FAQ: RPD (Rite of Parent Divination) / Re: Personality and Parents
« on: December 28, 2018, 09:30:06 pm »
Em hotep!
I just wanted to mention quick that I am not trying to discourage conversations about "personalities and Parents." What I have found to potentially cause some hurt feelings is conversations about "personality patterns and Parents." And I was mostly just wanting to mention this in case others come across conversations like this and might also feel excluded like I have in the past.

I do apologize if I came off too blunt. I have been sick these last few days and my brain is foggy, therefore I am sorry if I was sounding too critical <3

[PUBLIC] FAQ: RPD (Rite of Parent Divination) / Re: Personality and Parents

Em hotep!

I know I'm being a party pooper here but I admit that discussions like this make me uncomfortable, even if it is just for fun. There was a time that I didn't feel like I was a "good enough" child of Djehuty because I didn't have similar traits as other children of Djehuty. I know how these types of conversations have the potential to make people feel excluded.

In hindsight, I know how silly it was that I felt like an imposter child of Djehuty, but the feelings I had were real. Now I know that our gods are SO big and each Name has many varying traits and qualities. And traits of one Name will likely overlap with another Name, making it even more difficult to separate certain qualities. I think that if a handful of children of a specific Name have similar traits, that is more of a coincidence than anything. Correlation does not equal causation.

And of course, there are so many other aspects of our individual lives that influence our personality. Yes our Parent(s) also impact our lives, but how They impact it is deeply personal and specific to each person.

Our gods influence our lives, but they aren't the only thing that makes us who we are. RPDs are not like taking a personality test.

Em hotep!

I agree with everyone else about being cautious and putting your own safety first. One thing you could do is keep your shrine items in a box and just pull them out whenever you pray. I've done that when I lived in roommates and didn't feel comfortable having a permanent shrine.

I do want to mention one thing, though. If you are planning to apply to the Beginner's course and you are financially or domestically dependent on your parents (even if you are over the age of 18), then you will need their consent to take the course. I'm not sure if this applies to you, but it sounds like you are living with your parents therefore this might apply.

I've always heard differently: Khepera is the rising sun, Amon is is Noon and Ra is the setting sun.  And Atum is the solar disk itself.
That is interesting that you have heard that, Guga! Where did you come across that? Amun is "The Hidden One" and therefore it doesn't make much sense for Him to be the noon-sun. Amun-Ra can be, though. However I have mostly read of Ra or Raheruakhety being the noon sun.

Atum is normally referred to as the evening sun or night sun. I have also read of Wesir being the night sun as it passes through the Duat.

I have read about these references in a few books and sources, but the most recent one I have read that sticks out in my mind (and therefore can find quickly) is from "Myth and Symbol in Ancient Egypt" by R. T. Rundle Clark. Here is the excerpt:
"Atum is the aboriginal deity and ultimate but hidden godhead; Khoprer is God as he appears in visible form, whether at the beginning or every day; Re is God now in the sky. Atum is essentially invisible, so he later becomes the night sun as it journeys through the underworld or the arbiter of destiny perched on top of the world pole."

Em hotep!

This is fantastic! Thank you so much for taking on this project.

Djehuty has been coming to me recently in His role of Creator and Lord of the Ogdoad, which has sparked my interest in the Ogdoad itself. I'm looking forward to reading more of what you come up with :)
