Em hotep, Hayden! Hello and welcome!

I'm sure you'll find LOTS of good information here - and definitely ask questions! Plenty of folks happy to answer them 'round here! Plus, I'm sure the Netjeru are more than happy to have you around looking into building a relationship with Them too ;3

[PUBLIC] Netjer (Our Gods & Goddesses) / Re: Subtle differences

Hotep! I've got some (UPG) stuff on differences between Sekhmet and Sekhmet-Mut!

Pre-divination, I worked/talked with regular Sekhmet (or possibly just Sekhmet-Mut showing as regular Sekhmet since I wasn't familiar with the -Mut version). She is fire and rage and blood. She's a bit motherly, for sure, but very much the mother Who's ready to throw down at the drop of a pin. A hair-trigger, frequently. The goddess sent to smite humanity in Ra's name. Claws and teeth and roaring - a true warrior! A fiery, raging, inferno of a presence.

Sekhmet-Mut, I've found, is a lot different. Calm, steady voiced, pragmatic, measured, tempered... She's got the underlying smolder of embers in Her still, for sure, but She keeps them just smoldering. She's in control of Her rage - She knows it's usually not the best course of action, and saves it for the few times it is. But She's no less big or intense than regular Sekhmet - it's just that Sekhmet-Mut has the intensity that comes from wisdom and age and authority. She's huge - "The Queen of the Gods" - She has the presence of the infinite and intangible. Regular Sekhmet, of course, is equally infinite but seems more tangible - She's fire and rage. Sekhmet-Mut is patient rage, burning eyes with a calm smile, a mother Who knows what you're capable of and wants you to do your best and no less. "Hold your head high," She's told me, "you are beloved by a Queen. You will act like it."

Sorry for that, Lukas! I had definitely posted on mobile earlier and it must've autocorrected - I've changed it to proper spelling in my reply ^^

Chosen names I feel ya, man - I'm sure no one did it intentionally! I've definitely been called by another, very similar sounding shemsu name before hah

Either way, I hope you still find what you need here and that this mistype isn't too discouraging for you!

I've been fascinated by Netjer and ancient Kemetic practices since I was just a child - say 10 or so? But I never thought people still actively worshiped Netjer; I thought They were gods of the past, maybe not even real, though despite those thoughts I recall talking to a few of Them, especially my Father Yinepu, just for the heck of it. At the time I think I saw Them more as imaginary friends - entities that weren't truly real, but that kept me company.

Fast wayyy forward to about two years ago, and I stumbled upon a Kemetic blog on tumblr. Not even sure how it came up, really. I think they were posting some taxidermy stuff too, which I dig, so that may've been the open doorway. I blame my Father for that ;3

My interest was piqued, and I immediately set out getting some statuary and setting up a little altar to Yinepu and, eventually, Wepwawet, as They were the Names that called to me the most. I'm always drawn to canines, so that made sense. I also offered to Sekhmet and Set in the beginning, with the occasional shout out to Bast, Sobek, Wenut, and Mafdet. And it was great! I was making offerings and enjoying being solo! But then I started seeing some other blogs, where folks listed themselves as "child of (Name)" and I was fascinated and curious. This is what lead me to Kemetic Orthodoxy.

With some encouragement from some other members, I decided to take the beginner's class, mostly to see if I would do better solo or in a group. That's what really helped me in the beginning - the love and support I got from folks who were already members. They were so patient in answering my questions about this place!

I fell in love with the faith, and the organization and fellowship opportunities it brought me, so I've stuck around and taken on vows to my Father and Beloveds! Admittedly a part of me was originally in this to find out the answer - Who would claim me? But after a while, I realized it didn't really matter Who did (though I am very VERY happy with my beautiful Family♥).

Now? I'm looking forward to a rest-of-my-life-long run of honoring my Family and being a part of this community! That's my journey thus far ;3

Em hotep, Sundust!

Yes, the discord is open to folks who haven't yet started the beginners class as well, though with slightly limited "channels". It is 18+ though, simply because of the nature of some discussion that inevitably happens when talking about the Netjeru. When you get in to the intro channel, if you're having some difficulty with navigating, feel free to @ me there (just @taswauyinepu) and I'll help ya out! ^^

Em hotep, Sundust! Welcome to the community!

I hope you enjoy the beginner's class as much as I did, and find some good connections here! I'm pretty socially anxious myself, but even I've managed to make some really close friends - I'm sure you'll find lots of folks to connect with! Plenty of Wepwawet kids, too ;)

Look forward to hearing more from you!

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Re: WANT TO SEE YOUR SHRINE PICTURES
« on: February 21, 2019, 05:30:30 am »
I had done the kickstarter and got the two-pin tier - I'd asked for Yinepu and Wepwawet (wayyyyy before RPD btw) so I already had Dad!
My Beloveds I bought after RPD, as a cute little way to keep Them with me ♥ And as a placeholder til I get proper statues. You can actually buy the pins now (when they're available) on the artist's etsy!
