[PUBLIC] Netjer (Our Gods & Goddesses) / Re: Amun-Ra as beloved
« on: August 11, 2020, 07:40:01 am »
Em hotep!

I'm not beloved of Amun-Ra, but I am rather fond of Him and getting closer to Him.
He does seem to be somewhat quiet and distant for many people - which makes sense as "The Hidden One"! But He also has a sort of omnipresence too - He's everywhere, if only subtly. I also get Him with dawn! When the sun is beginning to shine over the horizon but is still hidden... it's really reminiscent of Him!

I've found Him "easiest" to comprehend via art - that's how I first met Him, actually! Back when I was a remetj, I was making Moomas cards for folks, and one person I made one for had Amun-Ra as a beloved - something about Him just pinged, and I painted Him on their card. I wish I had taken a picture of it, it was my first contact with Him, and ever since He is someone I find really drawn to. I've drawn Him a couple of times - once for one of His children, once for Him Himself as a cosmic ram-man... a few times as a ram, actually.

He seems to be few of words, but not unfeeling - more a silent smile in the warmth of the sun. He's kind of the hidden sun - a great shining darkness. It's the closest way I can describe Him - if the color black could be blindingly bright. I may not be one of His chosen ones, but I really am very fond of Him! And I love hearing about others experiences with Him!

Em hotep!

Like everyone else has mentioned, chocolate is a favorite!! I've found chocolate with raspberry, peanut butter, or coffee in it to be especially well liked, as well as chocolate with cinnamon and chili pepper! A little charcuterie board with cheese and meats and breads is always a good idea too if you're looking for more of an offering "spread". Throw some chocolate covered peanuts or something on there too... He loves that kind of thing!

For drinks, coffee liqueurs, whiskey, scotch, bourbon, Chambord is a big one - for non alcoholic, milk or water is always good! Coffee or tea, too!

Love this idea! Playlists are wonderful, it’s always fun to see what music reminds folks of their gods ^^
A forewarning before anyone looks some of these up: anything by Otep is metal, and often times has swears/uncomfortable language.

For Yinepu-Anupet, I like “My Boy Builds Coffins” by Florence + the Machine, as well as “O Death”, the theme song for the video game Until Dawn and “Life is Beautiful” by Sixx:A.M.!

For Sekhmet-Mut, “Unveiled” by Otep!

“I’ve Got Peace Like a River” for Hethert-Nut (not sure who originally wrote it. It’s technically a Christian song but it’s SO Her)

For Bast I like “Roar” by Katy Perry~

For Mafdet, “Confrontation” by Otep!

Still need to find some more for everyone, so I’m excited to see what folks suggest!

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Re: Your first senut?
« on: January 08, 2020, 01:56:21 pm »
I’ll be honest, as this may be an experience other new folks have, my first senut I didn’t feel a whole lot. The candle was nice, I enjoyed the incense, but I otherwise felt very little. I felt like I was talking to an empty shrine. It was kind of underwhelming for how long the process to prepare was.

I’ve found now, about a year and a half later, that treating it a bit more casually works better for me. I’m not as cautious and precise, and that makes it easier to get into a comfortable head space, which makes it easier to chat with my Family. Some folks thrive on structure - one of my beginners class mates and best friends is very structural! - but some folks find structure suffocating. I know I did. So making it less rigid where I can has helped. Don’t take it too horribly seriously - seriously as a ritual yes, but like... if you stumble over words or spill water all over yourself and the shrine, it isn’t the end of the world. Find a way to make it an enjoyable thing. The senut, not the spilling of water everywhere lol.

The big point being, if you don’t feel much, it doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong, or that you’re not cut out for Kemetic Orthodoxy. You just gotta find what works for you. Senut is really personal, so experiment and find what feels right.

Good journeys,

Sema’a this is really beautifully written, thank you so much for sharing it. It can be hard to fully, deeply know and understand what it means to be a shemsu when you’re first starting out, and I think this is a really well put bit. 💜

A wonderful conversation all!

Good journeys,

Just submitted my own few recipes! Hoping some of y'all have some good ones to share!

Keep in mind, they don't have to be immediate akhu! Maybe you have a favorite recipe from your country? Maybe a favorite personal recipe that your best friend made for you? Anything will do!

Good journeys~

Bumping this!

I'm looking forward to seeing what folks submit! And since that usual November holiday is over, maybe folks who celebrate have some recipes they'd like to share!

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Re: What's your favorite Holiday?
« on: November 21, 2019, 01:24:42 pm »
I’d say my favorite big holidays are Moomas/Return of the Wandering Eye and Wep Ronpet!

Wep Ronpet because new year, new beginnings, new god over the year to get to know and learn from. All good stuff!

Moomas was the first holiday I was able to celebrate with my local House family! It was just before I became a shemsu, just before being divined, and I was meeting these folks for the first time. It really made me feel welcome to the community, and I have Piri and Neshnyt and Khenne and Meti to thank for that! A few short days after celebrating Moomas with them, I was divined, and one of my beloveds is Hethert-Nut! The celestial cow Herself! So the holiday holds a special place in my heart. 💜

I’m also, of course, thrilled with the few smaller holidays my Father has! I try to celebrate those as well~

💜 Taswau
