[PUBLIC] Prayer Requests / Remeberence Day
« on: November 10, 2013, 03:31:35 am »
Since it's Remeberence Sunday AND the Akhu Dua tonight, it's certainly a day for remembering our loved ones who have gone West, as well as those who have been taken away by war. As you know, Remeberence Day has been an annual event since the Great War and is dedicated to those who gave their lives for their country and also their families left behind.

I'm offering prayers for W. Binning and my relatives who were killed in both the first and second world wars. I'm also offering prayers to everyone affected by the loss of loved ones today.

[PUBLIC] Prayer Requests / For R
« on: July 24, 2013, 01:35:19 am »
Em hotep everyone.

My friend R is going through a difficult time right now. He's been unemployed for months and can't find work anywhere, despite his efforts. His parents think that he is being lazy and not trying to find a job so they have given him until September to find somewhere else to live. With no money or anywhere to go I'm extremely worried about him. I'm hoping that he'll find a job and his family won't cast him out.

As always, prayers are appreciated.

[PUBLIC] Netjer (Our Gods & Goddesses) / God/dess of Thunder?
« on: July 23, 2013, 04:23:34 am »
Em hotep!

This morning we have a huge storm here after weeks of dry, hot weather and I'm reminded of just how much I hate storms! I got to thinking about whether or not there is a deity connected to thunder/lightening/storms or if it would be linked to Tefnut because of the rain aspect.

I did a quick Google search for "Egyptian god of thunder" but it didn't bring much up, and a lot of people had different views on who it would be and why.

Is there a specific Netjeru who is connected to storms? If not, who do you think would take on that role and why?

[PUBLIC] Prayer Requests / My Uncle
« on: May 14, 2013, 03:04:02 pm »
My uncle crashed his motorbike on wet road and has busted himself up pretty badly. He's broken 3 ribs and his collarbone and has a collapsed lung. I'd appreciate any prayers and kind thoughts for him at this time.

[PUBLIC] FAQ: RPD (Rite of Parent Divination) / "Not Now"
« on: May 04, 2013, 10:15:17 am »
(I've made a specific post about this on my blog but as it's relevant I'll post it here.)

Em hotep!

I've read through the email countless times and I'm almost bursting as I sit waiting for the four days to pass. On Thursday when I saw that I had an email regarding the RPD I literally squealed and jumped for joy. However, the RPD costs money. I'm currently an unemployed student so money is a bit tight for me. I also have major exams coming up (I'm hoping for two A's, two B's and a C) so I decided to ask the Netjeru through my Tarot cards whether undergoing My RPD was the right decision at this moment in time.

I use the Raider Waite Original Tarot Deck and I've had it for about two years now. I asked the question "is now the right time for Me to undergo my RPD?". I drew three cards: Death, the Tower and Tempest.

I do my own interperatation so it might differ from others'. I see the Death card as the end of *something*, death itself, *something* not working out or happening, and sometimes new beginnings. I see the Tower as representing a fatal flaw, disaster, bad luck, misfortune, pain and tragedy. I read the Tempest as a card of faith, retribution, justice, truth and fairness. What I got from this reading was that now isn't the right time for me to have my RPD done. Perhaps it's just not the right time, or the Netjer want me to focus on my exams before I get this done. Or perhaps there's something coming that I need the time and money for. Who knows. Sometimes the Gods just say no, now's not the right time.

I still plan on undergoing my RPD in the not-so-distant future. When the Netjer think I'm ready I guess They'll let me know!

[PUBLIC] Prayer Requests / For my friend and her family
« on: November 24, 2012, 10:28:48 am »
One of my bestfriend's grandfathers is extremely unwell. He's been in hospital for the best part of a month but they were told today that he'll be lucky if he lasts through the weekend. Her family are, obviously, extremely upset by this.

I'm sure she and her family would appreciate any prayers, positive energy, kind words or thoughts at this time.

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Dreaming of Akhu
« on: November 03, 2012, 07:20:13 am »
When I was 6 or 7 I was staying at my grandparent's house and I had a strange dream. I dreamed that my great-granddad (my papa) visited me. In the dream I woke up and there was a storm going on. I began to get scared when I noticed a man sitting in a rocking chair at the corner of the room. He was sitting in the shadows so I couldn't see his face, but I automatically knew that it was my papa.

He told me that dreams can't hurt you and that if I ever had a nightmare I just needed to think of him or that dream. I never got the change to meet my papa because he died before I was born, but he got to meet my older sister.

This is the first experience I've ever had with an Akhu, or at least a family member who has passed away. Did anyone else have an experience with them before they purposely meant to?

[PUBLIC] Netjer (Our Gods & Goddesses) / Worshipping Am-mit
« on: June 17, 2012, 05:35:07 am »
Am-mit is another Netjer I feel close to, when I was little I used to put pictures of Her at my window to keep evil things out of my room while I slept. Someone on another forum mentioned that She wasn't worshipped by the Egyptians and that She isn't part of the Netjer. Is this true?

[PUBLIC] Netjer (Our Gods & Goddesses) / My Four
« on: June 15, 2012, 05:00:29 pm »
I thought I'd do a little write-up about what Netjer I feel close to.

I've felt a connection to Sekhmet since I was very small. She empowers me and gives me courage and bravery. The Lady of Slaughter, the Red Lady, the Mistress of Dread... All of these names could be considered brutal but I see them as strong, fearless and loyal. She inspires me when it comes to healing people or working with medicine and She helps me to see the beauty in blood and the body. I ask Her for protection and, although She is wrath and divine vengance, I see Her as fair.

I ask Bast to help me whenever I'm doing something music-related. Having Her here or knowing that She is there makes it ten times easier to sing or play an instrument for other people. I often visualise Her watching me like a proud mother. Like Sekhmet, She can be seen as wrath but I know Her as a calm motherly figure who wouldn't be scared to give her children a nip if they do something silly.

He seems loving, understanding, comforting and wise. I always feel Him at stressful, sad or strange times. I always compare His presence to a hug from a friend or a pat on the back. It gives you enough strength to to nudge forward but knowing that He isn't going to abandon you makes you feel a lot better.

There's no doubt that Aset is a powerful magician and a very protective maternal Goddess. When I'm scared or upset I find myself trotting into the arms of Aset, and there has been lots of times when I was younger when I used to imagine Her arms around me holding me tight so that I could sleep. When I'm on my time of the month I feel really feminine, despite the grumpiness and belly aches, and Her female energy reminds me of all the amazing things that women can do: childbirth being the main one.

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Waste
« on: June 15, 2012, 01:05:10 am »
I read that, when offering food to the Netjer, you should always eat or drink it after the ritual as the Gods don't like anything going to waste. Food and drink was pretty important to them. Is this true for the Netjer, just some Gods, or not at all?

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Cool Water
« on: June 10, 2012, 08:42:37 am »
I've read that some people use cool, fresh water as an offering and I was wondering why that is. Was there something special or sacred about water or does it please the Gods?

Also, how would you offer it? Would you just pour it into a cup/dish during your ritual?

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Places of Worship in the UK?
« on: June 10, 2012, 08:13:23 am »
I did a quick scout of the internet but nothing came up. Does anyone know of any Kemetic Priests/Shrines/Temples in the UK, or any in Scotland itself? I did find one in London (700 miles away frome me) but it would be almost impossible to get there. Buses, planes and trains cost so much more when you're a student! Plus we have the Olympics coming up so everything would be totally hectic.

[PUBLIC] Welcome! / Another Fresh Face!
« on: June 10, 2012, 05:00:10 am »
Hi everyone ^^

My name is Alessandra/Alezandra/Ali I'm completely new to Kemetism in general, let alone KO. I'm from the UK and I first came across Kemetic Paganism when a friend suggested it to me, so my search within that brought me to KO.

I'm a member of another Kemetic forum where I ask LOTS of obvious questions XD
I feel connected to Sekhmet, Bastet and Yienpu and I'm planning on incorporating Egyptology into my undergraduate degree at university.

I'm not sure what else to say really. I'm interested in KO, I want to start getting involved with it and I'm here to learn.
