Em Hotep, Everyone

"Brazil’s oldest and most important historical and scientific museum has been consumed by fire, and much of its archive of 20 million items is believed to have been destroyed."

There's a website with images of their Egyptian holdings:

Such a tragedy! :'(

[PUBLIC] Prayer Requests / Prayers the fires will soon be quelled

Em Hotep, Everyone!

I pray the fires in Northern America will be soon quelled.  May Set lend his strength to the fighters.  May the rains come.

There are nearly 600 fires raging in British Columbia.  People in the neighboring province of Alberta can't even go outside of their houses without tears coming to their eyes.  (As reported by friends of ours who live there.)

I know it is also bad in California and Oregon.

Prayers for all of those affected by these fires!

"This is the position known as “orans” or “orante”, which is derived from Latin, and means “one who is praying or pleading”.  It is adopted by early Christians, and one can find representations of Christians in the art of Egypt and Rome, as in other places, with the praying Christian adopting the orans position. It is, however, not particularly Christian, as Jews and pagans adopted it too. The Ancient Egyptians, as their art would show, prayed in the same way the Copts now pray."

[PUBLIC] Prayer Requests / Prayers for my Spouse Julia

Em Hotep!

Last week's Wednesday, while I was  at Retreat, I called Julia and found she was sick with what she thought was food poisoning.  It seemed like maybe she was getting better.  She picked me up at the airport Sunday and we went to Asian Star, where she had egg drop soup.  That was the only thing she's eaten since that Wednesday.

She got worse, with more pain. Today, (which by now is "yesterday"), her pain level was at a level "9", so I took her to the emergency.  They did a Cat Scan and X-rays, found her lower intestine really inflamed. They put her on an IV drip of medicine called Flagyl and some strong pain reliever. They think she'll need to be there three to four days or so.

Prayers that she gets well soon!

[PUBLIC] Prayer Requests / Prayers for the Coptic Christians in Egypt

Em Hotep!

One of my Egyptophile FB friends posted this.  "A bomb explosion in the Coptic Christian cathedral complex in the Egyptian capital Cairo has killed at least 25 people, officials say.

Dozens of others were injured in the blast in a chapel adjoining St Mark's cathedral during a Sunday service.
Many of the victims are thought to be women and children."

So evil to attack those in a place of worship, any place of worship!

"At Qau el-Kebir, Middle Egypt, in 1923 Guy Brunton was working with Petrie, during excavations within a stepped burial shaft he found an estimated “2-3 tonnes” of fossilised, mainly dark, shiny heavy bones and carved ivory (1,2), the following year Petrie excavated a nearby cemetery finding a smaller deposit of fossils and yet more inside some of the rock cut tombs of the high status regional governors, at Qau many fossils were scattered as fragments through the tombs, others were still wrapped in their ancient linen bundles (3)."

"Qau el-Kebir is in an area suggested as a cult centre for the god Seth, a stela was found at Qau depicting Seth as a hippopotamus, Brunton and Petrie theorised that the mainly hippopotamus fossil bones were highly likely to be offerings to Seth."

This is an amazing little tour.  There's highlights on statues of Amenhotep III, and other interesting tidbits.

Do view full size.

[PUBLIC] Prayer Requests / Beheading of Syrian Scholar
« on: August 19, 2015, 09:08:32 am »
(Em Hotep!)

This has me so troubled:

Khaled al-Asaad, "one of the most important pioneers in Syrian archaeology in the 20th century," was beheaded because he wouldn't reveal where the antiquities have been hidden.  For those that haven't heard the story, here's the link.

I pray peace to al-Asaad's ka, and for his loved ones.  I pray these hateful terrorists be prevented from their evil deeds, and MAY THEY BE KEPT FAR FROM EGYPT!

[PUBLIC] Prayer Requests / Earth Day Prayers
« on: April 22, 2015, 08:18:04 am »
Blessings to all those working on behalf of the Earth's environment, nature conservancy and the beautiful diversity of its critters. They are working to ensure a better world for us all. The air we breathe, the water we drink, we have only one home.

May the Netjeru strengthen their efforts.  May the Netjeru strengthen their Kas, that they continue their efforts with renewed energy.

I finally got my photos organized and all the links work!

If you have a chance to visit this museum, don't miss it!

Em Hotep!

More than 200 school girls were abducted three weeks ago by a group that considers Western education 'a sin'.  The leader of the group considers the girls their slaves.

Such a heartache for the girls and their families.  May they be soon found and returned to their families.

Em Hotep!

As I'd said in another topic, "The Calling of Kemeticism":

It started over ten years ago with Set. That powerful magnetic lure was irresistible. I decided then and there to learn all I could about this Netjer. Although the original gateway was through a non-Kemetic source, my independent studies into Egyptology revealed more about the other Kemetic gods, and the concept of ma'at.

While a non-religious, purely magical approach had been satisfying for many years, gradually I began to feel the need for a more religious approach.

So I'm here to learn more.

I chose the name of an Old Kingdom queen, which means "She loves life," because I figure whatever names I might acquire in the future, this would fit. :)

I'll close with a poem I wrote yesterday:

Every Breath a Gift

If at the point of quiet contemplation,
I bring some vague confusion,
I will let my confusions be.
(I have travelled with them a long way.)

I will listen quietly,
Breathe evenly, deeply.
As I remember my ancient roots,
The old seeds bloom again.

The flowers smell as sweet
As they did to the ancients,
Who inhaled their fragrance fervently.
I inhale the hidden Essence.

Oh, gift of Netjer!
Gift in every breath!
I receive with gratitude,
I release with gratitude.

Inhaling, -------
Exhaling, -------
I am in Balance,
I am in Peace.

JAL, 3-26-2014

I'm glad to be here and look forward to learning more.
