[PUBLIC] Prayer Requests / Prayers for my uncle
« on: August 29, 2017, 01:23:22 pm »
My uncle is kind of estranged from the family but I think my grandmother is asking for me to do what I can to help. He lived with her until she passed away and then he moved in with my aunt until he up and left. He's burned through all of his inheritance, is homeless, and is struggling with a cocaine and heroin addiction on the streets of Portland. I've met him maybe once or twice in my life but no one deserves such a life.

I ask for prayers for his mental and physical health and that circumstances turn around for him.

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Where do you do your shrine shopping?
« on: August 21, 2017, 03:01:05 pm »
I thought it would be a good idea to have a list going of where everyone buys things for their shrines, especially for Beginners who might be feeling overwhelmed (I know I was!)

I honestly bought most of my supplies at Target. I house my shrine and supplies in a plain gift box that I plan on decorating. The lid serves as a backdrop of sorts. I also bought four dark blue bamboo bowls from Target to use as my offering dishes. I like that bamboo is such a bio-friendly resource and I love the color of them. I keep my natron in an acacia salt dish, also from Target.

I used to use a sandalwood and myrrh candle until I almost set my bookcase on fire. I just used Morning Star myrrh incense today and I love it. It's also ritually pure for Senut, unlike most Indian incense (no urea or cow dung!) It can be bought from but I got it from a pagan store in my neighborhood.

I have a few bits of kyphi/kapet and a portrait of Ra I bought on Etsy from I'm eagerly awaiting matching prints of Wepwawet and Set in the mail! I also have a lovely Ra bracelet from Nou that I use to decorate my shrine when I'm not wearing it.

I also have a large salt block candle holder and a selenite candle holder that I found at either HomeGoods or TJMaxx. I use LED tealights in them that I probably bought at Target or the Dollar Store.

[PUBLIC] Prayer Requests / For the ka of Heather Heyer

I won't go into too many details as there are plenty of news articles that cover things better than I could. There was a Nazi rally this weekend in Charlottesville, Virginia, USA. Heather, a counter-protester, was killed when a Nazi ran his car into a crowd. Others are injured but so far alive.

May her ka rest in peace and may her death and bravery not be forgotten. May her family and friends remember her fondly. May isfet be defeated!

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Where oh where to put my shrine?
« on: June 01, 2016, 06:29:42 pm »
Shame on me, I've just gotten done with the Beginner's Class and still no shrine.

I have two options on where to put it. Option one is my bedroom closet. There is no room anywhere else in my bedroom for the shrine and for prostrating except in and in front of my closet. Cons to this, my two snakes, lizard, fish, roaches, and dog are in my room. I'm not sure I want the Netjer to see the mess.

Option two is to put the shrine in the guest room. It's cleaner and quieter but it also feels less personal? And then it would probably have to be moved or covered on the rare occasion we have guests over.

Which would you choose to do?

Thanks for accepting me! I go by Hails online and I'm not very original at coming up with usernames.

I first heard about Kemetic Orthodoxy on Tumblr but never gave it much thought. I was more interested in the Heathenry and general pagan communities. I would get really into it for a few months, get bored, leave tumblr for a few months, get more bored, and come back. I'd started to give up on ever finding a religion and community that really resonated with me.

About a month ago, I started paying closer attention to the Kemetic blogs I followed and I kept feeling little nudges. So here I am, reading a bunch of books about Ancient Egypt (currently Red Land, Black Land by Barbara Mertz) and waiting to be accepted for the March beginner's class.
