I just built part of a new travel shrine that I'm psyched about.  There are no offering bowls and there's no incense, but there are candles and statues.  The camera quality leaves a little to be desired, but you can see it:

I really can't think of anything you can't give Set.  If you don't have anything else, you can just offer what you happen to be eating.

My favorite "dedicated" offerings to Set include dark beer, whiskey, steak, weapons (like, say, arrowheads), lettuce, military books and stuff, spicy stuff, pork products, and... uh... I give Him Coke Zero more than the rest but I feel that's probably just because I drink so much of it.

I will also agree with this.  Artifacts are important and I hope and pray that they are not destroyed, but people are still more important.

It's hard to see, but that's a bottlecap with a pop top tab in it holding the incense.  The water container is a bottlecap, too.  The statue was Sculpey.

I can't speak for official positions here because honestly I'm not aware of one.

I can, though, talk on my personal beliefs and experiences.

I have worked with people who have a number of different disabilities.  I can't go into any great detail here, but to use an example, I worked with someone with very severe schizophrenia.  He would occasionally lose track of reality, which sent him into outbursts in which he would scream, flee, cry out, and hit people.  If you don't know what schizophrenia is, it's easy to assume that there's some demonic possession at work.  With the right knowledge and a logical, open mind, though, it looks less and less so.  And when you approach it logically and calmly, you find that his outbursts are less frequent and  less severe.

As far as just not calling it what it is, again, I think about the guy I was just talking about.  He's nonverbal and he only understands simple one or two word sentences.  If we suddenly stop calling what he has schizophrenia it isn't going to do a darn thing to change what's going on in his head, and it's more likely to aggravate the situation because nobody's even trying to look at it rationally.

I should mention that I used to believe all disabilities were just natural human variation.  Which they may well be, but now I'm more inclined to view them based on the hardship they present to the individual with the disability.  I've learned that not all of them want their disabilities to be presented like that, and recent personal events have shown me why.

I consider the idea of other people being your divine test to be... well, condescending.  It's saying "This person's entire existence can be summed up by the fact that I need to be tested."  I can sympathize, because especially when you get to very profound disabilities you're talking about people who need a lot of care, but this explanation makes the entire person's life about someone else's test.  I am inclined to believe that sometimes this is a good thing as it can compel people to do their best, but at the same time it's kind of dehumanizing so I don't agree with it as such.  I do believe that a number of things can be tests, but that they weren't necessarily created just to be that.  I also have gender dysphoria and panic disorder, and I certainly am nobody's test except maybe my own, even though I assume some in my family believe me to be.

As to why disabilities exist in the first place... I have a few 'beliefs' about that.  For some, I think they're just natural variations in humanity (basically what people said above while I was writing my long-winded post).  Otherwise, though, I am inclined to side with medicine... genetic and environmental factors, for example.  I don't think I need a religious explanation for it.  Maybe the Gods roll dice?  Maybe as far as our corporeal bodies go it's just nature at work?

If the only space you have is by your bed, then so be it.  Mine is maybe four feet away from my bed and I haven't had any problems.  The big issue here is if it's going to be distracting to you, same principle as having your TV in your bedroom.

Watering a tree with the offering water is fine and many of us use it to water plants.

Don't worry too much about pissing off Netjer, there is less chance of that than you'd think.

In historical societies, homosexual sex wasn't really looked at in the same way as we do today.  In many societies it was a power dynamic relationship, a man of authority doing what Henyten so calls a "Man's Deed" to a man who is submissive to him.  It's sort of a play on gender relations, if a man has another man as if he were a woman, to use a highly antiquated world perspective, it proves that he is the one who rules the roost so to speak.  That's also a reason why that sort of relationship often had an age gap that would be disturbing to modern sensibilities.  I'm not talking about ancient Egypt in particular here, but I've always looked at the Contendings as that sort of dynamic.

Now, speaking about the Contendings specifically, throughout the story what essentially happens is that Heru-Sa-Aset uses clever deception to turn the tables in His favor, even though Set is the stronger party in every event.  Throughout the story, Set (generally) plays fair because He has the physical strength necessary to win, but He always loses because Heru-Sa-Aset uses trickery, racing with a boat made of wood covered in plaster instead of a stone boat, for example.  Set sinks because He's trying to move a solid stone boat as per the competition rules, Heru-Sa-Aset wins because He cheated and used a wooden boat.

So Set dominates Heru-Sa-Aset by having Him sexually, but Heru-Sa-Aset gets the better of Him by catching the semen which Aset then discards before giving Heru-Sa-Aset another hand Star Wars style.  Heru-Sa-Aset tricks Set into consuming His semen so that when Set starts bragging about how He dominated Heru-Sa-Aset, and they call forth proof, it looks like Heru-Sa-Aset dominated Set in a nice display of dramatic irony.

I wouldn't call it "rape," from the language in the story it looks like Heru-Sa-Aset willingly played along with Set's advances because He knew He could use them against Him.  I've seen it described as "rape" a lot, but I don't think they're really reading the story in its context or... you know, reading the words.

I was afraid that Set wouldn't be my Father after several years of assuming He was, so avoided the RPD for a long time.  When I finally did get it, He was my Father.

Some people learn that the God they thought was their Parent wasn't.  That doesn't demean the relationship they had, it only means the relationship was something different.

The reason in Kemetic Orthodoxy we don't simply go by Who comes to us the strongest is because Parents aren't something you choose or feel, They just are.  So I may feel a strong connection to say an aunt or a mentor, but those people are not my Parents.

I understand what aspected deities are.  I do have three of them in my lineup :P

When Serqet comes to me it definitely feels as though She is coming to me as "Aset in the form of Serqet."  When She comes as Aset there is less a flavor of "Serqet in the form of Aset" than there is "Aset with some Serqet qualities dependent on the reason She is talking to me in the first place."  Usually just Aset, though.

Wepwawet comes to me as Wepwawet and Yinepu comes to me as Yinepu-Wepwawet (not as Wepwawet in the form of Yinepu).

Hethert, on the other hand, does not come to me often enough to say, but I feel like I would probably see Her as Sekhmet in the form of Hethert.  I tend to feel Sekhmet as Sekhmet.  I would like to know Hethert better, though.

I recognize them all as dual-aspected, but They all seem to come to me different with the "prime" party in the divination presenting Him or Herself more often and first.

Yeah, I'm really late here, but I get both Aset and Serqet.  I mean, She's my Beloved and not my Parent, but yeah.

I was told during the divination that She was coming to me in nearly equal halves, though, so it makes sense.
