I might've responded to this already? But I can't remember.

Anyway! I feel most connected to my wonderful and lovely Lion Mom and with Set (who is also wonderful and lovely, just for the record). I am very blessed to have both of Them in my life.

Em hotep and welcome! It took me quite a while to start the beginner's course after I joined the forums and I never had any issues with it, so take your time :)

I hope you enjoy your time here!

Unfortunately, proselytism is an extremely common practice in many religious communities, especially Christianity. Many of those Christians don't even realize that their actions are hurting people; they've been told that anyone who isn't part of their specific religious sect is doomed to an eternity of suffering, and so they think that it's necessary to do anything they can to "help" us and "save" us from that fate, even when they're hurting us to do so. It's a necessary evil in their eyes, and I feel bad for them to be completely honest. It must be a hard life, caring more for what will happen to you when you're dead and rotting than what you're doing now, when you're alive and hurting others.

I've been a victim of proselytizing my entire life, having grown up in a very Catholic area in a very non-Catholic household. My friends and neighbors tried to convert me, my white Christian family tried to convert me, even some of my school teachers tried to convert me. It's painful and scary, especially since, as a Native person, I've seen what that sort of mindset can do to a person.

My experiences with Christianity are nothing compared to the experiences of the woman who raised me, my great grandma, who was forced into an American Indian Catholic boarding school as a child and later forced into a loveless and abusive marriage with a white man by a church she never wanted to be part of in the first place. It devastated our entire family, and I grew up seeing the trauma not only in my grandma, but also echoed in her siblings and children and grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Proselytism is dangerous. Don't believe anyone who tells you otherwise.

Senebty,
Biwi (Hawke)

Em hotep and welcome to the House!

There's actually way more disabled and autistic people in the House than people expect; I'm actually autistic too and have never had issues in the House because of it. Everyone here is great at helping make KO spaces and practices more accessible for people with all kinds of disabilities, so don't be afraid to ask for advice if there's anything you're having trouble with.

There's members here who joined the beginner's course with decades of Kemetic experience, and there's members who joined the course with absolutely no experience or knowledge at all. Everyone starts somewhere, and no one here will judge you for it.

I hope you enjoy the course and your time here at the House, however long that may be.

[PUBLIC] Netjer (Our Gods & Goddesses) / Re: Moon Associations for Bast
« on: January 13, 2019, 10:52:20 pm »
Ptolemaic associations for the Names just completely bemuse me, and I tend to avoid them for a lot of reasons. The weird associations with Hera made me absolutely terrified of Aset for years, and I'm still not as comfortable as I should be with Her considering She's one of my Mothers.

In terms of Bast, I always associated Her with the sun because of Her being an Eye of Ra? That might not be as common of an interpretation as I assumed it was.

Em hotep, everyone.

So, in some weird tumblr discourse a while ago, someone (who was not a Kemetic polytheist) claimed that Bast is a moon deity. Logically, I know that it's very unlikely and was probably just something they made up for discourse points or whatever such nonsense, but does She actually have any direct connection to the moon? I know that She was associated with Artemis a lot by the Greeks, but does that have any basis in Kemetic texts?

Thank you!

 Em hotep!

You can learn about "standard" magic (sigils, spells, etc) if you want to but it's absolutely not a requirement to be Kemetic Orthodox. You may want to learn a bit about heka, but that's very simple and also still not a requirement if you aren't interested in it.

The only things you need to learn about in that sort of vein is how to keep your shrine (and yourself) pure for Senut and, as Ma'en said, the things required for any specialty paths you're interested in.

Em hotep and welcome back, A'ashem!

I'm sorry you went through such a bad relationship, but I'm glad that you're out of it now and able to start healing. I look forward to seeing you around the forums!

Em hotep, Gezausenu!

I've actually messaged Ibi on discord about putting me back on the mailing list and I'm not sure if she forgot or there was some other issue, but I still haven't been receiving the newsletters. I even tried the contact page on kemet.org a few months ago and never received a response.

Thank you and senebty,
Biwimuti

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Forum and Newsletter Help

Em hotep, everyone!

So I was recently Named! And I'd really like to change my forum username and membership status here to reflect that. I sent an email to webmaster@kemet.org a few days ago and haven't gotten a response, so I was wondering how long it usually took for those changes to be made?

I'd also like to know how to sign back up for the newsletter because I removed myself from the list when I took my break from the House and nothing I've tried has worked to get me back on it.

Thank you and senebty,
Biwimuti

I should've mentioned this, but you can find all the information you need on the information tab when you're logged into kemet.org. The PDF about the RPD is up-to-date.
