[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Re: Are you doing anything for the Moon?
« on: January 11, 2020, 11:56:30 am »
I’ve been trying to work a lot with my Akhu, lately, and decided to use the lunar cycle to help boost some heka and dreamwork I’ve been doing with that Akhu practice in mind. It was successful, though the messages I received in my dreams were mostly reinforcing things that my Akhu have already communicated in other ways!

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Re: What's your favorite Holiday?
« on: November 22, 2019, 04:23:33 pm »
I love Wep Ronpet and the Epagomenal Days best, though it's also a bit exhausting, because I really do try to celebrate on all the days. Heru-Dad and I share the same birthday, so that makes it extra special.

I also love Beautiful Reunion. It falls around the same time of year as Pride, so I'm always a big mess of emotions about love, courage, and community.

Aset Luminous has also proven to be an exceptionally profound, though quiet and personal, celebration for the past five or so years. Nebt-het pushed me to celebrate it with more intentionality and reflection, and I've found myself having more and more meaningful interactions with Aset, ever since.

[PUBLIC] Netjer (Our Gods & Goddesses) / Re: Heru-wer
« on: August 10, 2018, 04:48:07 pm »
Heru-wer is one of my Parents, and I love Him dearly.

My Heru-wer is mostly the Heru of Nekhen (Hierakonpolis). He tends to come across as very young and very old all at once, and blurs with several of the other forms of Heru, because that Heru has encompassed so many things over so many stretches of time. He is primarily connected to the sky (my Heru-wer is very, very much a sky god), and to kingship, and leadership, more generally, as I perceive Him. He tends to hold me to my responsibilities and promises, and encourage me to take on new duties and roles in my life. He especially appreciates actions and commitments as offerings--work on personal projects, work towards particular goals, volunteer work, etc. He has a sense of humor, and is warmly protective and accepting. He comes across as very paternal, which is not surprising given that He is my Father, but also as a mentor/coach whom I can turn to for honest opinions and encouragement about my progress in my spiritual and everyday life. He always holds me accountable, and I want to meet His expectations. He can be quiet, in some senses--he doesn't tend to convey things through feelings and thoughts, as often as through external signs. When he does choose to communicate something, though, he tends to go with the most flashy and unsubtle sign possible!

I've been working on a devotional anthology dedicated to Heru (all the forms of Heru), so it's been interesting to talk more often to other Heru gods, such as Heru-sa-Aset, and, by doing so, feel out all the differences and points of similarity between Them and Dad. The other Heru gods sometimes feel like family by extension, through their connection to Dad, if that makes any sense.

I like “Knowledge for the Afterlife: The Egyptian Amduat—A Quest for Immortality” by Theodor Abt and Erik Hornung. It takes you through each section of the journey through the Duat, as depicted in the art of the tomb of Thutmose III. I’m fairly “meh” on Abt’s Jungian analysis contributions, but overall, it’s a good book.

[PUBLIC] Netjer (Our Gods & Goddesses) / Re: Nebt-het
« on: August 01, 2018, 01:21:22 pm »
Offerings I have made to Nebthet that She seemed to like include: coconut water, cheesecake, marionberries and blackberries, myrrh or lavender incense/oil, fancy cheeses (fresh high quality mozzarella, especially), elderflower flavored drinks, actions of self-care (getting a full night's sleep; doing something kind and restorative for my mental and physical health; spending time with loved ones, especially), and actions of care for my akhu and my living community. Nebthet is also one of the Netjer who seems very satisfied with cool water as an offering, rather than anything too fancy, possibly because of the self-care element of me drinking it after it has been reverted. ;)

Nebthet as I perceive Her, is deeply caring, compassionate, and protective. She is Nebthet of the Ma'ati, along with Her sister Aset, and wants to see good done for those living in the world, as well as the Akhu in the Duat. She loves Her sister, Aset, fiercely, and supports Aset through finding and restoring Wesir, and raising Heru in secret. She supplies those going through the grieving process with compassion, and gives those of us who are supporting friends and family through grief, trauma, and stress (as She supported Aset) Her strength. She reminds us to remember to care for ourselves during that process, as well as our loved ones.

That's just my particular "flavor" of Nebthet--everyone perceives Her differently--but I hope it helps give you some ideas for Her birthday! :)

[PUBLIC] Netjer (Our Gods & Goddesses) / Re: Little Known Deities...
« on: December 13, 2017, 01:12:31 pm »
Though not "little" in any sense, I have a great fondness for Tem. He always seems so very close, yet so very far at the exact same time. I usually pray to Him (as Netjer) unless I'm focusing on a specific Name, but it did make me sad He never shows up in an RPD separately (but technically does in everyone's).

I only mention Him because He definitely has a certain "persona" to me (though still overwhelmingly abstract too). I usually relate Him to the Evening Sun, as a Creator, and usually in an anthropomorphic state (with His fancy beard) when He stand on His own. The awesome perk is that He always reminds me that everything is Him, and He is everything. So talking to any of the Names is talking to Him, and to treat all people & things (including yourself) with care because everything is part of His flesh. Sort of the idea to try not to hurt others, because you are also hurting Netjer or making Him/Them sad.

It just gives a really nice fuzzy feeling inside that He's all around us, and cares so deeply to be all the Names for us too~ I wasn't sure if anyone else had Him in a similar way? I guess He might be considered popular, but not talked about much on His own. :)

The Ra in my RPD lineup tends to express Himself to me most often in the form of Ra-Atum, so I interact with a syncretism of Atum often. Like you, I was a bit sad He could not be part of my RPD directly, but He is still very much present due to His connection to all the other Names! I get Him as a sunset god, but also as the sun in the Duat, or in the timeless space of the Nun. He is a creator god, and is the potential for everything that exists, or that might exist, being brought into reality through thought, word, and action. He is a transformative god, and very much about inert things becoming alive, active, or animated. (He also expresses Himself as Ra-Wesir.)

I'm always to pleased to hear that others interact with Him, too. :D

Pleased to meet you, Mink!  :D

I checked with BA's head editor! Either color or grayscale will work, but grayscale is preferred, since the hard copies of the anthologies are printed in grayscale (sometimes color will go slightly wonky upon printing, it seems).

Wanted to give everyone a reminder that I am currently accepting submissions for the Heru devotional. Art, poetry, fiction, essays, photos of sculpture or needlework, everything is welcome!
