What wonderful news - my continued prayers for you and your family.

Please look after that finger, an infection like that can be serious.

I've always been a follower of the adage "Heaven helps those who help themselves" and when I've felt the gods pull back it's been at times when I've not been working on problems, issues, etc. To me, I've visualized the gods holding their hands up saying, "We'll support you, but you're going to have to find answers on your own for this one."

During this time, I do a lot of thanking the gods for what I have in my life, showing gratitude.  I also bring up what I think I should do to the gods and then ask/pray for guidance if this was the best direction to travel.

Again, just my experience :)

[PUBLIC] Netjer (Our Gods & Goddesses) / Re: Setting up shrines
« on: September 11, 2017, 06:27:46 pm »
I don't have a lot of space or furniture that I could use when I was first setting up my shrine.  I did have an old printer table with a shelf underneath.  I painted it grey and since it's on casters I'm able to move it around.  My oil diffuser is on a separate table because the top of the table isn't wide enough for 2 bowls, a glass, and candle.  On the shelf I keep matches, a sistrum, the Egyptian Prayerbook and containers of herbs and candles.  No one has objected to my set up.

I definitely recommend you use what you have and purify it.  I don't have any statues.  Craft stores have very cheap wooden boxes, plaques, etc.  I painted a box to use as storage and a smaller one to hold the hekas done on paper throughout the year.  On Wep Ronpet, I clean out the papers to begin anew.

Best of luck -- I loved setting up my shrine! :)

One thing I've done for my Akhu shrine is to purchase items that spoke to me that were made in the countries of my ancestors (Ireland, Poland, Portugal and Italy).  For example, I have a mug made in Portugal that I use for liquids and an Italian wooden slab (originally sold as a cutting board) as a base for my candles.  This way I can pay tribute to the nationalities of my ancestors, including those who are unknown to me.

[PUBLIC] Welcome! / Re: Hey Everyone

Welcome!  I have psoriasis and eczema flare-ups, often due to stress and soaps (the soap at my work bathrooms due a number on my hands). The natron and water mixture can be drying for me so I only use a little bit of natron and do the swishing in the mouth.

For me, the beginner's class went by so fast.  Ask questions, keep an open might, do what feels right for you, and enjoy your time learning! :)

Being a part of Kemetic Orthodoxy brings me comfort.  I know I have people who I can reach out to or ask advice from.  It means I can ask for prayers or pray for those who are in need.  It has brought me closer to the Netjer and Netjeru.  I feel more supported spiritually than I have in a long time.

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Re: Divination
« on: May 01, 2017, 03:09:41 pm »
I've used Tarot for a variety of times in my life.  I even did a short three-card spread before my RPD.  Another divination tool that I've used is the I Ching.  It requires the user to toss three coins or sticks. I've used both and like the coins better - I have three English pounds that I use.  The heads and tails are translated into either a solid or dashed line.  The lines then create a 6-line hexagram.  The user looks up the hexagram in the book to find its meaning.  The I Ching requires me to meditate on the meaning and how it can apply to my life situation.

There are many sites that go through the I Ching if you're interested.

Em hotep and welcome to the forums.  The beginner's classes are excellent and don't be afraid to ask a question.  Chances are that others in the class have the same question.   ;)
