[PUBLIC] Welcome! / Re: I finally did it! I sent in my application!

Em hotel! *Henu*

Thank you all so much! It turned out I got a reply and invite from Hemet (AUS) back on February 26, and it went to Spam...I have fixed that now.

As for what motivated me to send in my application after all these years...I'm not exactly certain. Some of it is that I grew up (literally, I was quite young when I first found the HoN). Some is that I have learned much about myself in that time, and my own spiritual journey. Some of it was almost impulse (I started filling the questions, and then found I had long essay answers written to all the questions from more than 10 years ago, that I found still on my computer -- I had to edit them quite a bit!) And some of it is just that it seemed like the right good time for a new beginning.

Hello all,

I sent in my application at the end of December, but I still have not heard back about the Beginner's Class that was for February (I know it got postponed to March 4)...the website still says people should have responses on or before Feb. 25 and it's March 2, so I am getting a bit worried. I tried emailing in late February, but I never got a reply. I just want to make sure I don't miss it! Is there any more recent information?

Thank you!

For anyone who doesn't know me, I've been reading the HON boards for 20+ years (I actually joined the boards about 16 years ago) -- I remember when one of forums was called Netjer_The_One_The_Many. I've seen so many people come and go (and sometimes come back), and watched the House change and grow (albeit from afar, but always with fondness).

After many, many years of vacillating back and forth, I have finally sent in my application for the Beginner's Course. I can't wait to get started learning!

My avatar on here for many years was a photo of a baboon, for any who might recall that.
I'm hugely interested in Egyptology, particularly the Predynastic, Protodynastic, and Old Kingdom.

Hugs to all!

So, Semer-Wati means something like “Unique Friend of the King”, is that correct?

Two questions, the first being, is the feminine form of that word Semer-Watit? And secondly, I know in HoN it’s used to indicate a person has been to Egypt with Hemet (AUS). What was it used to indicate in ancient times? I think I have heard of Senmut (Hatshepsut’s architect) having the title “Unique friend of the King”, but that is the only instance I know about.

Wow, that's a lot of Herus! Thank you both so much for all the info!

@ Sedjfaiemitui: I thought the Scorpion Macehead was pre-dynastic? I had been under the impression that King Scorpion was pre-dynastic, among with Ity-Hor and Ka? Or is Scorpion now accepted to be the same as Narmer? I know there has been some debate about it because Narmer also has a mace head that is similar. Predynastic/Protodynastic is my favorite time period of ancient Kemet (which is rare, from what I can tell).  I went and stared at pictures of it online (and sketches/line drawings), and I can't seem to find the Set-animal depicted. Could you perhaps tell me what symbols/objects/people it is near, so that I can triangulate the location?

Hello all *henu*

So I came across a reference the other day that stated the first known attestation of Set came about in the 2nd dynasty (this is in connection to the Nisut (AUS) Peribsen and Nisut (AUS) Khasekhemwy with their unusual serekhs).

I was pretty puzzled by that -- I had always had the impression that Set was a Name that was known to have existed in pre-dynastic times, along with Heru (Since most academic sources publish with the Greek names, I've never been clear if the "Horus" they refer to is Heru-Wer, Heru-sa-Aset, or another Heru, or if Heru was "just" Heru in pre-dynastic times).

Does anyone know if Set appears in the historical record in pre-dynastic times?

I do NOT understand why pop culture (and even some educational sources) equate Set with evil -- that's Apep!

It is incredibly conspicuous how movies and TV shows seem to almost go out of their way to avoid researching the actual roles the Names. Crash Course Mythology on Youtube for Ancient Egyptian religion makes me want to hurl things at the TV and scream.

I can only speak of my experience with Nit, as I haven't "felt" anything from Her other aspects when Nit is at the forefront.

I get a sense of Nit staring at me, watching, and pointedly NOT speaking. A sense of tremendous power barely kept in check -- not exactly angry, but could become in half a moment -- and that Her fury unleashed would be unmatched by any Others. Protective of that which is righteous in the way that only a mother could be, but in a harsh, strong way -- not a gentle or comforting presence (as though She would come as Nebthet for that). Unimaginably wise, but not imparting that wisdom as a teacher does (as though she would come as Seshat for that).

I find her facinating and simultaneously terrifying.

Yay! I've missed you, Djedet! And I've worried about you and wondered what had happened. I'm so glad to see you back here. I hope you are finding what you were looking for within yourself.

Was there no Wep Ronpet gathering at all? I always look forward to hearing about what happened at Wep Ronpet.

I had wondered what had happened to you and to Djedetmiwesir! I have worried about you and the family! Please give my love to your wife and keep some for yourself!

I once had an encounter with Nit. She was watching me, but not speaking, and her anger was palpable.

I think the Nubian Queens tended to wear crowns with lots of cobras on them, like the 25th Dynasty.

I thought might be helpful if we had an index thread for Names that are viewed as Aspected or Syncretized, specifically whether that view is from Ancient or Modern times. That way, people who are looking for information on a specific Name can have some idea of where to look and what to look for. I also know there are some Names that in Ancient times, are harder to classify, i.e., its not certain they were aspected or syncretized, but it seems likely -- such as Names with no known temples of their own.

Please feel free to add to this, or correct it!
