I said a prayer to Djehuty this afternoon.  I was thinking about a recent stressor and driving in my car.  And what I said to Him was:

“There’s something about this situation that isn’t clear.  We don’t have all the information or it isn’t being fully communicated or transparent.  I feel like we are being manipulated to make a certain decision without knowing the real situation.  Do you think you could use your deity powers to compel some sort of discovery on this?  We need the info and I don’t think we have all of it.  Thank You so much.  You’re a good Bird.  I will pour you some gin and light some incense when I get home.”

So yeah.  Nothing formal or invokey about that.  But that’s pretty much how I talk to my gods.

Thank you! If anyone wants to share their Djehuty stories, I’d like to hear those too.

So I am praying to Djehuty more with everything that is going on.  For people to use reason, endeavor to understand each other, put seeking Truth before ideology, avoiding misunderstandings, ... all that jazz.

What offerings does He like?

Hey, I’ve been a Ptolemaic polytheist for 4 years and am getting into KO due to wanting a structure, community and because KO really attracts me lol. I hope to make some friends and engage in the community here.

Cool!  I don’t know much about Ptolemaic religion, though I am fascinated by it.  Are there any particular deities that you especially worship?

Oh hey, welcome.  I’m from West Chester, but not living there now sadly.

Hey!  I remember you from when I first joined.  So nice to see you again!

Always Yinepu. Ever since I was a teen, He's been there, as the Guide. He's guided me here, as well, and I wonder if He will play a part in my RPD, or if He is going to step back a bit and have Other Netjer take over, so to speak. I'm waiting on my RPD date, so we'll see!

Me too, since the beginning. From as far back as I can remember, it has always been Him. I am now connected to Heru Sa Aset and Sekhmet-Hethert, Who are Beloveds...with Yinepu-Wepwawet as my Father(s). There are many additional connections, such as Heru wer, Heru Behdety, Set, Djehuty, Ptah, Ra, Kephera, Aset, Nebthet and Sed-Yinepu-Wepwawet,  but They are my main ones.

Update: Since I first posted on this thread, Set and Heru wer have been added to my Family. My Father Yinepu and Set seem to be the Netjer I speak with most often and that have a predominant presence. From there, the two Heru's and Sekhmet; and Wesir has been having a growing presence too.

Did you get Them at the same time?  Because that happened to me.

I stand verbatim by what I said last September.  Communicating with the divine in this fashion is a concept that is overemphasized in modern paganism and it isn’t necessary.

Also, I really genuinely think that because it is such a big concept in modern paganism, that many people attribute things to the Divine that is really only their own thoughts, wishful, thinking or fears.  Not everything that is chalked up to divine conversation really is and discernment is often lacking.  True divine communication is not as prevalent as it would seem to be, in other words.

I don’t communicate with gods all that often.  Nor do I consider myself in a fallow time.  It just isn’t necessary for my practice.  I trust that the gods are there, love, and looking out for me.  I think the important thing in this life is the relationships we develop with other people.  The gods are eternal.  This life isn’t and taking advantage of the here and now is important.  This can be hard to hear when you’re going through a rough time and questioning the point of it all, but I think the advice to connect to the community and other people was an excellent one.

And honestly?  The time I have really heard things from the gods?  It genuinely scared the crap out of me. I don’t hear them while awake, but I’ve met Them in lucid dreams.  It’s disconcerting as heck. They don’t act how you imagined They would.  You don’t always understand Them and you have a definite sense that this is a different brand of creature entirely.  I love the Gods.  But I genuinely don’t love communicating with Them so directly.

I used to long for divine conversation and I realize in retrospect that what I was really wanting to do was abdicate responsibility for my life and my own choices.  To not have to go out on a limb or take risks.  To just have someone else take care of life’s uncertainties and tell me that I was loved and that everything would be okay.  Please don’t think I think that you are doing this.  I don’t know that.  But I know that I was and I know that the gods won’t serve that role.  Learning to take responsibility and ownership of one’s life and choices in the face of life’s constant uncertainty is one of the main lessons of life.  They won’t do that for us.  I needed to learn to do that.  I need to take my best shot and own it, in the knowledge that it may not work out at all.  And that through it all, Netjer has my back even if it doesn’t seem like it in the moment.

I feel like this post is really disjointed, but I’m struggling to figure out how to make it more coherent.  I do intend for it to be helpful and I apologize if it isn’t.

ETA: the best advice I have, aside from connecting with people, is actually mindfulness type activities, meditation, and such. And NOT with the goal of developing divine communication, but the goal of accepting What Is and knowledge of one’s own self.  Eastern type practices might be helpful.  <3

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Re: Your first senut?

I really honestly have zero memory of it.

I remember the first time I gave an offering to my Mother.  That was during the beginners course. I didn’t know She was Mom and had found a statue of Her at a local pagan shop.  I bought it because it was the Kemetic statue they had.  I offered Her warm milk with honey.  I got hit by so much love that it amazed me. I still have that statue.

But I don’t remember my first formal senut.

Here is one of my many shrine altars...

And that’s gorgeous!  Where did you get your naos?

Isn’t the Egyptian jackal actually really a subspecies of wolf anyway?

While there are gods who take an interest in the blessed dead, the only thing you really need to have an ancestor veneration practice is to venerate the ancestors.  It’s a shrine and prayers for just them.  Gods can certainly be represented on an ancestor shrine and often are, but the ancestors are the point.

Have a space decided to to them, give them some cool water.  Light a candle. Talk to them.

That’s really it. The rest is just details.

Beautiful Reunion!  Because it's Mama Hethert and love and reunion and joy!  (I too love the days of increasing sunlight.)

It seems so faraway now.  I mean the Wesir Mysteries are profound . . . but it's so DARK all the time.

Beautiful Reunion. I love love. And that time when spring turns into summer and the days are long.
