[PUBLIC] Netjer (Our Gods & Goddesses) / Nut!
« on: September 03, 2017, 07:11:44 am »
Nut is my first Beloved, and like others have said I experience Her as vast, so vast and all-encompassing. She is specifically the night sky, and also a guardian of the Akhu, all the ancestors that ever were.

From Nut I have gotten the sense of truly beyond mortal comprehension unconditional love. She sees us, She watches over us-- you think She does not notice all the big and little things we do that we're not proud of? She see this, She sees us eating our hearts, but to Her this is simply an aspect of who we are. Her embrace is infinite, big enough to hold us, our hopes and fears, and She will swaddle us in Love until we can feel it seep into the deepest fabric of our beings and realize that it's been there all along. Nut is the One Who raised five children: Wesir, Heru-wer, Set, Aset, and Nebt-het. You've read the myths--what a handful! There is nothing in heaven or earth that could come close to trying Her patience, not after that round of motherhood. Of course She wants the best for us, but She will help you get there by being the strong yet gentle, ever-present support behind you...

(So apparently I have a lot of thoughts about Nut!)

She is quiet, in my experience. I have felt Her most keenly when I've been upset, nearly blinded by tears, and gone outside under the night sky to sing to the stars. My voice cracks, I continue singing, tears streaming down my cheeks; slowly they stop, and the song evens out, and I sing Her love and praise...

Thank you for the generous offer! Khenne had nothing but praise, along with many other House members, so I'd like to submit my name as well. PM sent!

I didn't have any guess, and then last night I dreamt next year was a Ptah year, so I'll throw that in.

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Re: Red Wine and Feast Foods
« on: July 11, 2017, 07:30:36 pm »
I would say cider absolutely can be used instead of beer. As someone who can't drink beer due to allergies but can have cider (and enjoys it quite a lot), I've never had any trouble. As others have said, Netjer enjoys things you enjoy, and if They have a specific request, They will let you know, promise!

Em hotep,

You definitely aren't alone, EMECOR. We hear you, depression is such a rough thing to experience. I hope and want you to be safe.

Please call the hotline Saryt shared if you're feeling unsafe.

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Re: Non-blood Akhu?
« on: May 30, 2017, 12:00:01 pm »
Non-blood Akhu can absolute be venerated! Chosen family is just as and for some people more important than their blood family. Plus Temple Akhu and others are non-blood.

Tsar Nikolai II and his immediate family are on my Akhu shrine, due to their historical  influence on my family and the fact that I grew up hearing about him from my mother as "our tsar". I also venerate my queer forbearers as well.

Re: doing something bad enough to have one's heart devoured by Ammit-- the line from American Gods comes to mind:

"It was a really heavy feather. We had it made special. You had to be pretty damn evil to tip the scales on that baby."
--Mr. Jacquel/Yinepu, in American Gods

That's always been my understanding of my Father, coupled with the fact that, so far as I know, Ammit only ever devoured the specific personality of that lifetime. Not the soul, the essence of the entire person through all its lifetimes.

As far as unconditional love, I don't know if the ancient Kemetics understood the Netjer to have that quality for them or not. We do have the myths of Ra sending Sekhmet to wipe out humanity when humanity had strayed from what Ra desired for them, but Ra feel into grief and dismay upon seeing the destruction Sekhmet brought upon His children and called Her off. Very much a parent getting frustrating and going overboard with attempted discipline, before realizing that this was not the answer.

As someone also raised Catholic, I think of the ways in which Jesus' message of unconditional love was later corrupted by the mortal believers. I believe that the Netjer love us unconditionally, but that like any parent, They have hopes and expectations of us. Unlike mortal parents however, Their love is in fact unconditional and does not disappear if we behave in ways They find disappointing. Life arranges itself to give us infinite possibilities to do better, and the Netjer's patience will always have Them waiting for us. Individual Names might display this love and patience in different ways, but it never runs out for the Netjer.

Prayers for your friends-- Ma'at will prevail. And I'm not sure Set takes kindly to people referencing storms for such purposes...

Praying for them, and for you too, Gezausenu. The situation also hits close to home for me and my own mother. I hope Chris is able to break the cycle and get help.
