[PUBLIC] Welcome! / Re: Another newbie, hello!
« on: January 07, 2014, 06:49:44 pm »
Hotep and welcome to the forums!

Hotep friends and family!

I intend to do some service work in Louisville, KY and I would like for you to join me :)

Places I am considering volunteering:
  • Center for Women and Families
  • Dare-to-Care food bank
  • local elderly assisted living facility
  • Kosair Children's hospital

I would like to invite friends from my city and nearby areas to join me. If there is interest, I will organize a day (or selection of days, probably February or later) for service to be done. Please comment if you are interested in learning more about this.

Added bonus: if you show up to help at one of my service projects, I will [to the best of my ability] attend/help with a service project in your city in return.

I hope to hear from a lot of you soon! :)

Em hotep and welcome back, Renan! There are many Kemetic Orthodox members in Brazil now, so I hope you get a chance to talk to them. I even heard that Hemet (AUS) may be visiting Brazil sometime (can anyone confirm this? I honestly can't remember if Hemet said this or if I heard it elsewhere).

:D I do really love these tumblr pics. Can someone please credit the artist though? I would like to search them.

I agree on the science ideas, Sobeq. I feel the same way about science and medicine in general. Being able to explain it doesn't make it any less magical. The brain has amazing capabilities--just because we know how some of them work doesn't mean God/Gods didn't move evolution in the right direction for it to turn out that way, and the fact that humans can't just force atoms to come together and make a brain/any living thing is enough for me to believe that there's something deeper to this world and life as we know it.

Contemplative jackal kids. I like it.

My Sekhmet statue has strangely rotated 45 degrees to Her left before. I never really touch Her (or anything back there), so I have no idea how it could have moved (NO ONE touches my shrine but me). She turned to face the window, oddly enough, even though I had a cloth that covered the front of my shrine from regular view.

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Re: The Afterlife: Your Beliefs
« on: December 05, 2013, 10:14:14 am »
I believe that people go to the afterlife that they choose to go to, and that souls may inhabit multiple 'afterlife locations' or else are able to move between locations at will.

I believe that people's kas are gathered by Yinepu or Nebthet initially. Amunet provides them cool water, something familiar in such a foreign plane of being. Yinepu guides the ka to the Hall of Two Truths, where the heart is weighed. if the person passes judgement, Wesir welcomes them to the field of reeds, the afterlife where the Lord of the West, Wesir, provides for all akhu and rules over them as their Good King.

I think akhu who want to be in, say, Christian heaven will go there, but they will also be able to cross over somehow to visit those in the Field of Reeds/Duat.

Em hotep and welcome to the boards! I've been a member of the boards for almost 5 years now, and I've been a shemsu for 1.5 years. Kemetic Orthodoxy and the House of Netjer has been the best fit for me that I've ever had, religion wise. I was raised Catholic, and I was Wiccan/Pagan for many years, but I have never had as fulfilling of a religious experience as I have had here. Not only is the religious/spiritual side of things deeply personal, but we also have a community that is open to all people and closely knit through friendship and fellowship.

So, welcome to our family. Feel free to get comfortable. It's nice to have you.

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Missed festival
« on: October 04, 2013, 10:37:27 am »
Hotep! So, I totally never really officially observed the Feast of the Beautiful Valley. Amun has been subtly poking at that fact, I think. I just wanted an outside opinion: should I do an belated observance, or just make a point to make an offering to Amun in its place? It seems an offering is going to happen regardless, but I just wanted to ask about whether it is appropriate to consider it a belated festival observation.

I'm still really nervous about the work I'll have to do, but I'm still excited nonetheless and it gives me work experience if I want to get a job elsewhere.

Dua Yinepu-Wepwawet! Dua Heru-Wer! Dua Set! Dua Mut! Thank the Gods I got a new job! Even if it's technically temporary, this is  exactly what I needed and I will likely be hired on permanently after the temporary period! I am so happy! Praise the Names of Netjer!

T.T I'm nervous as heck now about my job interview tomorrow. Prayers would be greatly appreciated! I just want to make sure that I can keep my cool, not get all shakey, and say exactly what I mean to say. Here's to hoping that it all works out. Dua Yinepu-Wepwawet! May my Father guide me through this.
