[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Re: How do I set up an akhu shrine?
« on: August 10, 2011, 10:24:10 pm »
If I find pictures of my grandparents, but other people are in the picture, if I crop them out of the picture does it still count as a picture with living relatives in it?

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / How do I set up an akhu shrine?
« on: August 10, 2011, 12:25:41 am »
I know I'm supposed to have one, or at least it is suggested that I have one, but I don't really feel like I know much about akhu shrines. Could anyone tell me more about it? I'd like suggestions on what I should keep in the shrine, what things people do with their akhu shrine, and what to do if  you only know the names of a small amount of akhu. I don't know the names of my great grandparents for the most part, and I know very little about them. I know the few people that have passed on during my lifetime, but I know I have more akhu than them (although they, of course, are greatly valued).

As a side note, I'm getting an apartment up at school (away from home). Is it okay to have two shrines, or should I transfer my shrine items back and forth when I come home on the weekend?

Thanks :)

I've been close to Yinepu for many years, long before I came to the House. At first I liked his association with dogs and jackals, but as I got to know him more, I liked him for what he stood for to me. When I knew him as Anubis, he would come to me with a personality that I attribute more to Wepwawet now--he was strong, a bit scary, a little stern, but very understanding and helpful. Now that I know that they are both the same and quite different in their own right, I find Yinepu to be playful, innocent, and child-like. He is still strong and brave (who else would be able to guide the dead through the craziness that is the path to the Duat?), but I get a better feeling of who he is now. I believe Yinepu guided me to KO for a reason, and he has stuck with me ever since. Even if I don't turn out to be a child of Yinepu-Wepwawet or even Wepwawet-Yinepu, they are dear friends to me.

I have more of a friendship with these Names, as opposed to a teaching relationship. Wepwawet has taught me to be strong and patient, and Yinepu doesn't show up as much as Wepwawet now. I feel that Yinepu continues to guide me when I need to make a big decision. He's definitely comforting and familiar to me.

Weolcome LadyTahna!

I LOVED the Egypt Game! I read it in 7th grade and I have been tempted to read it again sometime, even though I'm in college now.

I find it interesting that a friend ended up leading you here. In a somewhat reverse way, coming here made me gain a good friend that I didn't know lived in my city (Kefetmisenu and I hit off really fast as friends here, and found out in about 3 days that we both live in the same city with only a year between us in age XD). I hope you find more friends here like I have. Feel free to message me any time to chit chat :D

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Parents, Beloveds, and offerings
« on: July 29, 2011, 12:40:36 pm »
I haven't had my RPD, so I don't know who my parents and beloveds are yet. I was wondering, however, if I am required to provide an offering to each and every one of them at every senut, assuming that I perform senut daily.

Ex. I have seen some people with 2 parents and 3 beloveds. That would be 5 offerings. Would I want to pray to all at senut but make an offering to one, and just rotate per senut? Would I need 5 offerings every day, one for each Name?

I'm just trying to get an idea of how this works. I like to provide offerings, but I run out of ideas rather quickly so...

any help would be loved :) thanks

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Shrine defiled by horde of ants T.T
« on: July 07, 2011, 11:10:59 am »
So I went to sit at my shrine last night, only to find my offering bowl SMOTHERED in ants. I knew I had seen an ant or two in my room before (over the past three weeks) but my offerings has never been touched before over the few weeks I've seen the ants. I only ever usually see one or two at a time, so we've never been able to figure out where they're actually coming from.

In the process of cleaning off my shrine, I had to dump the offering in the toilet to get rid of all the ants, rip out all the pieces in my shrine (I broke the mummy part of my Yinepu statue off of its base, but it fit back in so it won't need any serious repair), and I had to throw my shrine cloth in the dirty clothes to wash out all the dead smooshed bugs.

I expect it would be bad to get bug spray on my shrine space. Any other ideas (besides simply re-cleansing the space) to keep these bugs away?

As a side note, I'll be taking my offerings off of my shrine after I finish senut just to prevent other problems.

Hotep Matteo. It's great to hear you are a writer :) I am an artist and a writer as well. I've been working on a story since my Sophomore year of high school (now a Sophomore in college, haha). Keep going. Sometimes you have blocks (like other projects, or school, or work, or homework, etc.) but keep on working on it whenever you can.

Hopefully we'll see you around here more often :D

[PUBLIC] Netjer (Our Gods & Goddesses) / Re: Is Set prodding me?
« on: May 05, 2011, 06:23:46 pm »
Thank you all. I have kind of heard that Set is the type who wants his end of the bargain as soon as it can be provided. Considering someone else will be purchasing the alcohol (and as such, likely consuming the most of it), he might have to wait for that a day or two, but I'll probably get the flowers as soon as I can set up an appropriate shrine space. Thanks for the kind wishes, and I'll let you know what happens when it happens.

[PUBLIC] Netjer (Our Gods & Goddesses) / Is Set prodding me?
« on: May 04, 2011, 10:57:17 pm »
Okay, so here's the situation: I really, really want to get this apartment. A lot of things have gone awry, and it has been very stressful--so I turned to Netjer. At Senut last night, I pretty much told the Names "Okay, whoever is listening, this is what is going on and this is what I need to happen. If things turn out how I need them to, then I will offer a nice alcohol, a bouquet of flowers, and a meal to you."

Within a few seconds of finishing my prayer, I heard a surprisingly loud clap of thunder (though it wasn't raining, and didn't start raining for a good while afterward). I kind of got a prodding to get a reddish or golden brown alcohol. I'm actually thinking Captain Morgan, to be honest haha. Does this sound like it may be Set? That's kind of the impression I'm getting, but it isn't exactly a clear impression.

As a side note, I don't plan on consuming the alcohol except in a very small amount. Is it okay to share the remainder of the alcohol with friends/family if it's okay with Set (or the particular God/Goddess)? Are there specific rules on how offerings have to be disposed of? I admit I am underage, but only by 1 year (I'm 20), and I don't intend on drinking more than maybe a few sips (about what you'd get at a church service, but maybe more than just the one sip). Thanks for your input :)

I have to echo Satsenu here. I get the "I'm the tough warrior older brother in the Wepwawet-Yinepu situation". I often call on Wepwawet for strength, as well as Set, and I tend to offer workout time to Wepwawet. I guess I get more of the One with Sharp Arrows side of him, but he definitely opens the way (which is great in traffic ^^ Dua Wepwawet!) when I need it. I could see how he'd be sly, but I seem to get a more direct sort of presence, I think. That's probably because I hate surprises though XD

Wepwawet really interests me though, so I'd like to learn more about him :)

[PUBLIC] Netjer (Our Gods & Goddesses) / Re: Epithets of the Names

I read through (skimmed over) this forum and I didn't see any epithets of Yinepu or Wepwawet. Did I run past them or have they not been translated as of yet?

[PUBLIC] Netjer (Our Gods & Goddesses) / Re: pronouncing Ra
« on: February 10, 2011, 07:50:24 pm »
After KI Sedjemes' comment on the r in pero, I kind of wonder if the R might have been similar to the Japanese r sound in ra, ri, ru, etc. In that instance, the r is much more of a D blended with L and a touch of R. Considering the mere geographic distance, though, this is unlikely. It is still a possibility though. None of us will really know for sure what things were like until we go West and ask the Gods Themselves :3

Thank you both very much! I think it might have been Carol Andrew's book I was looking at, but I'm not entirely sure at the moment. I haven't really gotten around to searching too thoroughly on the internet, but as I understand it the "Tour-Egypt" website is sorta half-and-half on its reliability. Here in a half-hour or so, I'm heading to the campus library to see if I can't find anything there. The link for images will definitely be helpful, though, so thanks Bezenwepwy :3 I didn't think about going to museum websites XD

In my museum methods class, we have an "LCD Project". This project requires that each student create their own 12-15 slide presentation on a particular topic. Each slide has at least one cite-able picture and one to two sentences either describing the picture or providing information about the topic. The topic I chose was Ancient Egyptian amulets (and religious icons if information is scarce). I found a wonderful book on Egyptian amulets in my hometown's main library; but the project's rough draft is due next week and I won't be able to go get that particular book (except in extreme circumstance since it'd be a 4 hour total drive to acquire said book).

But I have a whole Egyptian community as friends of mine. I figure someone might know a thing or two, or at least what places would have reputable information. So my question(s) is this: Do you know anything about Egyptian amulets? What are good/reliable information sources? Any additional info is loved :)

Simply amazing, and definitely inspiring. The Lord of the West still watches over the world just as the Life-giving Lord of the Sun still gives us life every day. One day I wish to experience something like this myself :)
