[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Beginner App Question
« on: April 21, 2013, 10:02:37 pm »
Em hotep!

So after much consideration I've decided to apply for the beginner class. I just had a question anout the application's length. I've noticed for some questions, I don't have much to say or it's at least coming out fairly concise. However, for other questions, I feel I'm writing a lot. Is there any amount I should write or limit my writing to?

Senebty,

I definitely agree to spay and neuter pets, but I can't stress how important it is to adopt from shelters. I've volunteered in shelters and have seen some of the most friendly, amazing, wonderful animals there. Even the shy ones have very gentle mannerisms once they get to know you.

Quick story time: my mother and I were shopping at our local grocery store and were surprised to see a woman standing outside the store, behind a table which had 4 kennels on it. Upon inspection of the kennels, all were empty but one, which had two 4-week old kittens huddled in the back of it.

We talked to her and she, being a devoted cat-lover (and I now suspect perhaps an agent of Bast) would go to her local animal shelter and take animals that were "on the list"; basically, the animals next to be killed to make room for more animals. She worked with the shelter and would take the animals for a few days and attempt to find them homes in return for donations. She had found homes for the other 3 cats she had, but couldn't find one for the kittens because they panicked when separated and they would need to be specially fed since they were so young.

About 6 months prior to this, our cat Fluffy, aged 11 years, died due to cancer. We also had another cat, Buttercup (15 years old to date and still going) but we weren't sure about getting a new one. Obviously, as you can probably guess, we took the two kittens in and they are amazing friends and I love them dearly.

So, story aside, PLEASE adopt from shelters! You'll find a friend waiting for you.

P.S. Here's a picture of the 2 kittens

Also I have yet to encounter Heru-wer... sorta curious now being he seems to be "The Big Shot" (or "Big Sh--" depending on your POV lol).

The few times I've felt Him around, He's been... quiet. Mostly, I just remember brown wings. Protective brown wings. You know that type of statuary where Him in hawk/falcon form is behind the Nisut's head, wrapping His wings around his head? That's the image I mostly get of Heru-sa, of Him behind my head like that.

Really? I've always felt he was more of a wild guy in his twenties. Whenever I'm running around outside I feel like he's running with me going, "Can't ya go faster?" Also, when ever I see a hawk flying around the sun I get a very, "Yo what's up?" feeling. He seems almost modern to me in his mannerisms.

I actually first experienced Bast as a mothering sort of feeling; very gentle and accepting (this was when I was first venturing out from my Catholic upbringing so I think this is why she was in more mothering form). More recently though I get a very intelligent, almost calculating feeling from her; sorta like when a cat spots prey and it figuring out how much jump/speed/time it'll take to make the kill.

As for appearance, I've never gotten her as a lioness, though she really comes through as a VERY angry feral cat, especially if I hear about a cat being abused. Once I went berserk on a guy who said he'd kill a cat without a second thought; I scared the crap out of him and after I had no idea where all that outrage had come from. I'm thinking Bast may have had something to do with that.

I've always had a deep connection with Bast since I can remember. I actually started studying Egyptian history because I heard that they worshiped cats and discovered Bast in a book. I've loved cats since I was little and Bast always reminded my of a fun-loving, yet protective mother. I also more recently developed a connection with Horus (Heru-sa-Aset); ever since I working with Horus I've seen hawks EVERYWHERE and they always make me smile; I've also always worn a pendant with his Eye on it. I also feel a tenuous connection with Neith, though I'm still exploring that one.
