[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Re: Beginners Classes
« on: May 21, 2011, 12:32:27 pm »
@Whale: You might have been delayed because of the snail-mail factor. I don't know about Ohio, but the Sacramento area postal office is absolutely horrid. I'd imagine that if Hemet gets it this week, she would still offer you a place. If not, perhaps it would roll over to the next class. Either way, there is plenty to learn here on the forums until you start. :)

@Arieni: Thanks for answering. I'll try to contain myself for now. :)

I got my acceptance email last night - would using this thread as a place to meet the other beginners of our class be too OOC, or shall we wait until the 27th? I'm a bit over excited, and want to meet our classmates!

Em hotep.

Being moved to a new server, actually. Hopefully it will be up soon, as the mailing list is now working again.

I just went to start a small shrine area for Her and got a mental "Don't you dare use those candles in my shrine!" from her with regards to some older, not so pretty, candles I still have from my Wicca days (though she might also dislike them as they were stolen).

Seems She wants me to do this right. So high maintenance! :P

It's possibly one of your beloveds, even one of your parents, isn't it? I don't have much to say on that front, but I can tell you that you're not alone in this feeling!

I've felt the close presence of Bast since I was young - maybe six or seven when I first learned of her - as a playmate and, now that I'm older, a guardian. She's slowly guided me from the Christian path to a Kemetic one (and to at least learning of KO, if not yet joining it) and was always the one I prayed to in times of trouble, rather than Yeshua.

I've always referred to Her as a Patron Goddess - not knowing if She is or is not a Beloved/Mother of mine.

Ah, I am a minor until April, but will live under my mother until at least September. I probably misread the information on, but as the site it down, I have no idea.

Thanks for the answers!

On a related note, is there a schedule of when beginner's classes will be?

Em hotep!

I read on the section about becoming a beginner that KO requires the consent of anyone you're living with in order to sign up. Is this the case?

The person I live with is a staunch Christian. She actually stole and threw away my copy of the prayerbook while I was hospitalized. There is no way that I can get her permission, and it's unlikely that I'll be able to move out any time soon.

Dua Yinepu indeed!

I am getting a lot problems because of my sexual orientation and because of the orientations/gender identities of my friends, so this is really a great blessing to see!

I think I'd like to post this on my own wall, if you don't mind, Iait.

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Purity and Medication

Em hotep.

I've read in some threads that many of you avoid performing rituals - be it Senut, a State rite, or Heka - while under the influence of medication that alters your mind. However, I take mind altering medication daily to treat my mental health issues, being unable to fight them on my own. Does this make me impure?

Sopdet is the star that signals the beginning of the Inundation. I did a research project on it for my astronomy final last year.

I'm also new here (but not taking the class, parental consent isn't happening), but Windweaver has it right - it would seem browsing the forum would be the best way to learn. I've learned a lot just from doing that.

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Re: Akhu
« on: September 24, 2010, 10:17:38 pm »
Forgive me for dragging life to an old thread, but I was wondering: aside from unknown Akhu, I have no blood relatives I have lost. I am estranged and secret to one side of my family, and both sides would likely oppose me trying to communicate with them, because of their religion.

However, a month ago tomorrow, a very dear friend of mine passed away. She made a strong impact on my heart and life. Would she be someone I could consider Akhu? Or would she be considered Sebau (a term I've only just learned from this thread)?
