That question made me grin all crazy-like - when I conduct interviews (or anti-views, as I like to call them), the first thing I ask potential employees is if they're a dog or a cat person.

For a moment it throws them off something awful, but then it immediately relaxes them (interviews can be stressful!) because they'll launch into a chat about their favorite furbabies.

It was hard for me to limit my answer to that question to just their names.  I was THIS CLOSE to typing a full biography about my two cats.  They're far more interesting than I am.  ;)

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Re: Self Worth
« on: September 07, 2010, 10:19:17 pm »
To me, self-worth is a matter of asking two questions:

"What have I done to deserve what I have?"
"What have I done to help others?"

By "what I have" I mean the things in my life that make me happy - love and direction from the gods, my husband, my furbabies, my home, my job, my friends, and even the trivial physical things and geeky toys that I've filled my house with.

Helping others is kind of obvious.

The answer, of course, is usually not enough - which pushes me to work harder, love more, and be a better person.

I measure my self-worth by my ability to sit down at the end of the day, take a deep breath, and feel like I have worked hard, contributed, and helped others to be happy, even if it's in the most insignificant way.  I went through a dark time in my life where I woke up every day feeling like I was worthless.  Now I wake up every day feeling like I have a whole new chance to work my arse off and make a difference.  ^_^

Yay for other BCkin!  :D

Thank you again for all the welcomes, you guys all give me the warm fuzzies.  ^_^  Sooner or later I'll try to post something other than "omg thanx for welcomz"... maybe when I'm done powering through 40-some-odd pages of posts in the Q&A forum and know which of my 1000000000 questions have been asked before (which I'm sure Niti will be grateful for as I'm likely driving her nuts by now on the stupid question front).

All the happy posts and smilies certainly made my day after a hellacious shift at work.  ^_^

Thank you, everyone, for the warm welcome!  :D

It's good to know that the proverbial clue by four is a common occurrence, and not Someone pointing out that I'm dense as lead.  ;)  I think the most overwhelming part is trying to figure out Who's taking the swings at me!  Hopefully that part will come with time...

Hello!  I'm Jenn, from way up on Canada's west coast - pleased to meet you all!  It's been a bit of a spiritual winding road for me (or more like a rollercoaster at times) but I've been feeling some none-too-subtle shoves in this direction for some time now (even "none-too-subtle" is probably an understatement, "kicks in the head" would be more accurate).

So... hi!  I've been reading the forums voraciously for a while now, so I'm still a little overwhelmed by all the information, not to mention still trying to get my head around all the new Faces visiting my quiet little house, so please forgive me if I sound really scatterbrained (if it's any consolation I usually sound at least a tad confused).

Looking forward to chatting with all you lovely folks!  :D
