She's more about moisture and condensation in general than bodies of water. For Netjeru who are associated with water in a more general way, I'd look into Hapi, Nun, Hatmehyt, Sobek, Anuket, or Satet.

Wait, what? I must've missed that part of the Westcar Papyrus (or maybe it wasn't in the translation I read, for whatever reason). Do you happen to have a link handy where I could read up on that? Google is failing me.

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Re: Incense?
« on: July 14, 2014, 01:10:31 pm »
I use incense from the Morning Star collection, which is really lovely: good scents, generous burn time, very little smoke (and totally appropriate for Senut-level purity requirements). Sandalwood, amber, lavender, and fig seem to be particular favorites of the Netjeru, but that's just my experience.

I don't have the funds right now for statues, sadly, but I do have a few print outs. Hethert and Yinepu are mounted right behind my main Senut shrine, since they are the ones who brought me to the House. I also have a small image of Bes on the inside of the door to my shrine cabinet, as a sort of protector of the shrine area.

I'd like to get some more images, but it's hard finding ones that will look nice printed out! I'm also biding my time to see what other Names I grow close to first, since I'm relatively new.

EDIT: Here is a picture of my main shrine area. It's very... beginner-ish, but I'm okay with that. It seemed weird to put Yinepu above Hethert at first, but in the end that's what felt right--it's not meant to be hierarchical in any way, it just expresses the difference in how I experience Them: Hethert is with me, while Yinepu watches over me. If that makes sense.

Hotep Rev. Raheri,

Could you elaborate more on that? I'm really interested in the akhu, but I'm struggling a little on how to work with them since I knew so few of my deceased relatives before their deaths (most of the names I say during the akhu libation in Senut belonged to people who died before I was born, or are my partner's recently deceased relatives who I did not know well if at all).

Nevertheless, I feel strongly that I need to work with the akhu in order to "progress" in my faith, so to speak. Would you have any suggestions on how to do that? (Bearing in mind that I am estranged from the vast majority of my still living family.)

Whoops, that got long. Sorry to hijack your post here, Akins! Just tell me to shut up if I get too chatty.

Senebty,

Phoenix

Hotep Rawy,

Thank you for your response here, particularly your last paragraph. After getting uncomfortable and having to withdraw from this discussion for a while, that helps put things in perspective. I was really struggling with my stance before, but I get a really strong "this is right" feeling from what you said, so I'm just going to say "ditto."

Senebty,

I may be wrong here, but I think Vaalea meant it's not an intrinsic part of the religion (the way, for instance, making offerings or lighting incense is), because there's no documentation of it in antiquity and it's a minority of people in Kemetic practice today who incorporate it.

For the record, I'm squicked out by it on a personal level, but I don't think it's wrong. Like you said, it's documented in tons of cultures. It's just not for me because that's not how I see Netjer (or deity in general, really). But my personal preference and worldview shouldn't invalidate anyone else's practice.

If you're asking something along the lines of "is it okay to talk to the Gods about sex/make requests regarding sex" I think the answer is a pretty emphatic yes. As long as what you're doing is ethical, consensual, and safe, the Gods aren't going to judge you for it!

A lot of religions are big on rule-making regarding sex, but this isn't one of them. Our rules for sex are basically the same as our rules for anything else: be honest, be respectful, and don't hurt or manipulate people.

If what you're asking is more along the lines of "is it disrespectful to ask a God for a sexual encounter with Them?" then I'm just going to say ditto to everyone else who has already responded here. It's not a KO thing, so you won't find a lot of advice here, and it's something that would probably be inappropriate for us specifically. Elsewhere in the Kemetic community, though? Sure.

I would say someone is trying to get your attention, but I certainly can't tell you who! As Vaalea said, there's any number of options, ranging from your own subconscious to a Name of Netjer (maybe Khnum, maybe not).

I would say, pray more. When something happens that I don't understand, I like going to my shrine to pray for guidance. Let Netjer know that you want to know the name of the one who seeks you, then wait. It can take a while to get an answer--I've gone weeks without one before--but just be patient. You'll know it when you see it.

Thank you for the excerpt, Tahai! That's really interesting. I may have to get that book.

Min, as a god of fertility of all kinds, would also be appropriate here I think.

Huh, I'm a bit confused about the purification now. I remember reading in the beginner lessons that you say the heka over the water/natron before the shower/bath and then pour in the mixture before washing. Is that not the case?

Here is the passage I am referencing:

Quote
Ritual washing involves taking a bowl of water and praying over it, then
taking 10 grains of natron (five each for the two parts of the country,
symbolically), praying over them, combining the two and pouring the mixture
into the bath (or shower) before washing.

Em hotep!

Personally, I usually pray to Hethert, but that's because I pray to Hethert for just about everything. On a slightly more objective level, perhaps Set, because of his association with storms and bad weather?
