[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Re: What time do you do Senut?
« on: June 27, 2018, 07:56:42 am »
So, I am currently on part-time duty as a priest. That means that I my requirements for RTHM are not every day... so when I choose a day to do RTHM, I choose a time that suits my schedule for that day.

If it's a weekend, I'll pick first thing in the morning. If it's a workday I will do it after work, since I leave for work very early in the morning. If you aren't in a place where you follow the same routine every day, it may be helpful to pick a time the following day that fits that day's schedule.

As for whether to use a separate shrine: You don't necessarily need a whole separate shrine to do Senut. A dedicated Senut space within an existing shrine that is only used for Senut after having performed ritual purification will work. If you use that space or tools under other circumstances, you will want to repurify the space and objects before going back to Senut there.

It's nice to see you again and welcome back.

On a side note, I'd love to see the Portuguese boards as I don't understand them but would like to see if they could be translated so the ones that don't speak it would know what everyone was talking about (and could perhaps comment as well on that thread).

See you on the boards.

Meres :)

There are a number of browser plug-ins that can make that happen! If you tell me what browser you use I can point you in the right direction.

Taysat!! I was just thinking about you. How are you? What have you been up to? Are you still in New York?

It’s so good to see you again!

May Sekhmet be with you and may Ma'at prevail!

In addition, I earned a degree in biology and the years spent learning about the natural world have reinforced an evidence-based worldview. It's very, very hard to for me to turn off that voice that tells me none of this is real.

Wow, do I ever identify with that sentence or what! I also work in an evidenced-based field, and it feels so strange to rely on my heart and internal experiences. I'm always doubting and testing and asking questions. At the end of the day, I continue to believe in the gods and practice Kemetic Orthodoxy because I want to. Maybe that is the nature of faith. Whatever it is, you certainly aren't the only one.

As long as you can keep in contact via email, you should be fine. There are chats via IRC, but the majority of the class is conducted via email. I wish you a very blessed trip to honor your father.

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Re: RPD
« on: April 05, 2018, 03:54:25 pm »
It will be a while before I get to request my RPD; however, I was wondering about some things.

_It is my understanding that certain numbers and/or combinations are not possible; what are those impossible numbers and/or combinations.
_Also, several links exist purporting to direct one to the mathematics, processes, and possibilities involved in this rite, however, they all appear to be broken links.
_And, finally, can someone's "parent" also be their "beloved?"  (It's my understanding that these terms/concepts are not literal, and, as such, not necessarily mutually-exclusive.)  (Is this one of the "impossible" combinations?)

Thank you very much and please enjoy a wonderful rest of your week! Σ:3

It's very hard to say what is impossible, because the gods continually surprise us. We thought Tefnut and Shu would not appear in RPDs, but They've done it. We thought spirits like Imhotep wouldn't appear, but He has, in a syncretic form. So what we have is more like an understanding of what doesn't seem to work, what doesn't make sense, and what the gods have explicitly told us won't happen.

Ma'at and Atum are not going to appear as Parents. Ma'at is mother to us all, and Atum is basically Netjer -- the One and the Many, the Self-Created One.

The maximum number of Parents is two. That is what the Nisut (AUS) was instructed when the RPD began.

We thought for a long while that the maximum number of Beloveds was five, because it seemed everyone topped out at five. Then we had someone get six, and I think we're up to seven now. So that didn't stick.

Thus far, Aset has always been single-parented, and Set and Nebt-het dual-parented. Heru-wer has explicitly said He always comes with Set, and vice-versa.

Thus far we have not had anyone have a deity repeated as Parent and Beloved in the same form. There are some who have different forms of a deity repeat, in a way -- there is a child of Heru-sa-Aset who has Ra-Heruakhety and Heru-Behdety as Beloveds. Ostensibly those are all the same deity in different forms. I understand we've also had one person divined as a child of Yinepu, with no Beloveds.

As for the mathematics... I can't say I've ever seen that posted outside of private areas on this website. I'm unsure of what they are off the top of my head. I know the possible combinations are in the thousands, though.

Em hotep, my sibling in Sekhmet! It's good to see you again. I definitely feel where you are coming from in terms of fear of death. It's been a struggle for me as well, recently. For me, getting to know the gods connected with death has helped tremendously. Nebthet is now one of my Beloveds, and I feel more connected with Yinepu and Wesir. I still struggle with fear, but I am learning to manage it with the help of these gods.

Somewhere on the private forums there is a discussion about fear of death. I've found reading through others' experiences with the same fear to be strangely comforting.

[PUBLIC] Prayer Requests / Re: Just Trying to Re-Connect with Wepwawet
« on: March 31, 2018, 12:32:25 pm »
Did you know that there is a Hindu God, Rudra, "The Howler," who is said to have arrows capable of killing even the other Gods?

I wonder if He is connected with Wepwawet, somehow.

Also, there's Anu or An, of Sumerian / Babylonian religion, who shares some similarities with both Wepwawet and Yinepu ("Anubis").

I also wonder about what connections may exist, there, as well.

What are your thoughts on these maters?

Em hotep!

I admit I am sort of insular in my religious practices, and pretty much only worship or study Kemetic gods -- so I'm not terribly familiar with other pantheons. I do know that Wepwawet is sometimes called "With Sharp Arrows" and "More Powerful than All the Gods" -- not in the sense of being able to overpower the other gods, but that He would be the foremost amongst the gods in strength and in... well, pointy arrows.

Em hotep, and welcome to the House of Netjer! I very much pray that you are able to deepen your connection with Wepwawet Himself. I am His devotee and priest, and I love Him very much -- so of course I wish that for anyone who wants to get closer with Him!

Those are absolutely beautiful passages, Tamiwi. Thank you for sharing them!

Death is something that frightens me regularly. I struggle with what my therapist described as "existential terror" - occasionally my mind will try to wrap itself around what it would feel like to be dead, and it frightens me so badly I get cold sweats and start shaking.

I've actually asked the gods about it in Saq, too. Sekhmet offered me comfort during Her healing ceremony: She said something to the effect of "Those who love life the most are the ones who are most afraid to leave it."

There was a private Saq-Nit for those attending Paganicon recently, and I asked Nit for help as well. She offered this: "You do not change shape, only location."

I am glad we are having this conversation. It's comforting to know that others struggle with the same fear too, even if we don't talk about it all the time.
