So, here's my next question.
When one becomes Remetj and possibly a Shemsu,
is there a law against worshiping other Gods outside the names of Netjer as found in Kemet?

Or, for that matter after one is divined can one still have loyalty to these Gods and Goddesses out of the Kemetic pantheon?

To add a little more to it, as I do this very overtly, the way the relationships work is negotiated between you and Netjer and the other Gods as well. There's no one rule as to how you "divide your time," so to speak.  If you go this route, don't worry about getting it correct right away. I would imagine for those who are just KO, sorting out their relationships takes a good amount of time as well.
It'll come as it needs and means to come.

I don't think that I ever saw a case of someone not having a Beloved. But I think we have at least one case where Parent and Beloved are identical

I think there was one person who was divined with only a Parent. I've never heard about Parent and Beloved being the same though.

But for me it's not like that at all. Het-hert has basically assumed the role of a Mother for me... I don't really feel like I have a Beloved, just two Parents heh :)

I feel like that a lot with Seshat. Sometimes it's hard to not call Her Mom.

Nuria, that's amazing work and I'm sure that Netjer is/are thrilled by your work.

has anybody ever gotten Parents/Beloveds that they didn't expect, or didn't know/work with before the RPD?
i'm curious as i feel connected to Bast and was wondering if she might be a P/B....
:]

In my case, loooong before I came to the House I had a major jackal connection, including a few dreams of Yinepu. Knowing that He was one of the Names, along with Bast, who often brought people to the House, I spent my time before RPD preparing myself for ANYONE to come up. Except for one Name though...
So RPD comes, I do it over IM with Hemet. She throws the shells, comes back and says "You have a Parent and a Beloved. Want to make a guess? ;)" (yes with the wink, we'd talked a bit before about my jackal connections.) When she told me it was Wepwawet, my jaw hit the floor, but within even a day a LOT more pieces were falling into place.
Seshat I had no awareness of at all before my divination, but quickly reading up even basics on Her was almost a scary experience. One of Her kennings is Lady of Years, as She notes everything that happens. One thing Hemet did not know about me is that I have a near photographic memory for events and actually can recall them quite impartially. Her coming up in the RPD is probably what really removed any possible doubt that the readings come straight from the divine.
She's also very quiet (so are Nit and Nebt-het), which I've heard from others who have Her very present. Not surprising to me She didn't speak up before that day.

If you placed an order for a publication and didn't get it, email them.

The beginner's class material is just the lessons, no book. You aren't required to have it, but I know a lot of people in the House have purchased it.

As I recall, other African Traditional Religions also hold that all people have a Name/Orisha/Lwa that rules over their head, regardless of where their people hail or the religion(s) they practice. And in the Norse end, we don't see the Gods as parents generally, but I know about 2-3 people who call Odin Dad. It's not quite in the same vein as a Name shaping our ba.

The short answer is you don't know until Hemet (AUS) does your divination. Sometimes you'll get an inkling but it's not a certainty.

As for myself, I always had an affinity for the jackal including a few dreams involving Yinepu (or Who I thought was Yinepu, in retrospect the personality wasn't right).  When I was mentally prepping myself for my divination earlier this fall I got myself settled with the fact that Anyone could turn up as my Parent or Beloved.  The kicker was with all that prep, I was NOT ready when Hemet told me I was a Wepwawet kid. However, once She told me a lot more things settled into place in my head.

Also, just because you do not have certain Names turn up in your divination doesn't mean you can't have a connection with them.  While I don't talk with Her much I still have a big spot in my heart for Aset.

[PUBLIC] Kemetic Orthodox Q&A / Re: Your Shemsu Name and You
« on: November 18, 2007, 09:05:41 am »
I just found this thread and couldn't resist throwing in.

Quote from: Sobeqsenu

1.) What is your Shemsu name and meaning?
2.) What is your RPD lineup?
3.) How long have you been named, and how long did you wait before being named?
4.) Are there any interesting puns in your name that you have heard of? Please share them if you're willing to.
5.) Did you try to figure out what your name would be before you got it? If so, were you close?
6.) Did you use any Kemetic names before you got your Shemsu name? If so, what were they and what did they mean?

1 and 2. See below.
3. I had my RPD 8 September of this year, and was Named on 3 October.
4. None that I know of yet, though I am trying to find out the meaning of Zat. I've asked Hemet if She could find out, but in the interim if anyone else finds out I'd love to know.  Although I had a few people on the day of my Naming threaten to call me Shazam. I don't think that counts though. *laughs* and I think that's why it's shortened to Zat and not Shezat, but I reply to both right now.
5. I didn't even try, though I did ask Dad many times in the period between divination and naming for a "cool name." I was also hoping very much for a name that would reflect Seshat, and you have to admit there is a definite resemblance in the English rendering.
6. I didn't even want to make a try. If I can't do something just right I am very reluctant to even try.
