Djehuty as Artisan
« on: August 05, 2010, 06:17:54 am »
We talk a lot about Djehuty as a writer, as god of scribes. I remembered recently that he's also god of artisans.

Does anyone have any thoughts or experiences of him in this role?

For me, I've only honestly had Him come to me as a guide, willing to help me with whatever I needed. He is very kind. ^_^

Em hotep Demai!

I've honestly never heard Djehuty described as a god of artisans. Though He definitely has a ton more roles other than the writer/scribe one. I personally get Him as both a trickster and Ra's consigliere as Khusi so aptly termed it. I'd also be interested in hearing more about this. :)

Em Hotep!

From what I understand, Ptah was the God for Artisans as he was a creator God.
Djheuti is more along language and writing, math and geometry. If your thinking of artistry in terms of sacred geometry, then perhaps he might fall under the category of Artisan.
He is a trickster God though, and I think certianly appriciates word play more than anything else.

M htp,

Hmmm.... I don't really see Dad as the Name for Artisans (I'd have to agree Ptah would seem a more likely candidate).  That being said, I can tell you He appreciates the technical skill required to do such work.

i.e. - with Maret, He'd appreciate her work because of the technical skill required to draw at such a high level (her work is awesome!) and because the skill requirement is so high, the utilization of such specific skills to produce high quality work brings it into His realm-ish.

Hotep Qait!

Actually, Djheuti LOVES to help me with essays for class. He throws words at me, then expects ME to re-arrange them in order and logic. Drives me bonkers sometimes. *chuckles*

But I can see your point about the technical aspects. I do tend to use some measurements when doing artwork (and thanks for the compliment!), espcially when it comes to borders and grids. :)

I would put it this way.  Djehuty makes things (writing, building, etc.) technically correct, while Ptah makes them art.

This is what I have on Djehuty:

Scribe, Creator God, According to Hemet (AUS), Djehuty is the action of knowledge in the universe, the wisdom of the ages.

After my first proper pray session. I had a very vivid dream. I was back in Thebes, the building of Karnak or Thebes temple. Ptah and Djehuty were there as well as other people. They were gathered round a plan of the temple. And Ptah and Djehuty instructed me to rebuild Egypt to what it was before.
It made no sense then. But now it does. I'm starting a buisness in making and crafting 1/12th scale miniatures of Ancient Egypt.

Hmm... I dunno about that...

There can be much to be valued artistically from technical accuracy.
