Hello there!
« on: December 02, 2010, 12:07:06 pm »
Hey everyone, I'm Mike. I'm a full time student out here in Sacramento CA (and also a full time employee :( ) Hopefully to be in the next beginners class.

Unlike probably a lot of people, I wasn't originally interested in Egypt, but actually Greece. I was raised as a Jew, but I always loved Greece because the idea of g-ds who could actually be seen and interacted with, and didn't seem to always be having some serious manic-depressive episodes, was always appealing to me.

After a while I kind of fell away from religious Judaism, there was just no sense of spirituality there for me anymore (and there never really was to begin with). I wandered around in ambiguous spirituality land for the longest time (still ignoring Egypt mind you), until one day I read the words "Kemetic reconstructionist".

Instantly then everything started falling into place. Intrigued on how one could "reconstruct" an ancient religion, I started to poke around the internets and learned more about all types of Kemeticism. And then the HoN. At the same time a very special Lady known as Nebt-Het caught my attention. She was the first Netjer I was ever drawn too, and it just seemed like I couldn't learn enough. Her history, Her mythos, Her traits, Her cult centers in ancient Kemet, Her place in the Ennead, I just wanted to know everything!

And now, here I am. I haven't really been "practicing", as I know there are many specific ways to do things, and I don't want to look like some fumbling idiot in front of Netjer lol. But I don't plan to stay that way for long.

I can't wait to learn more, and I have millions of questions to ask, but I won't ask them here as I've already written a novel almost lol.

Thanks for reading you guys!

Em hotep & welcome, Mikah.

Nebet-Het is very interesting. I'm more experienced with meeting Seshat and quite recently, Nit, though all three have certain appeal.

Funny you mention that Mikah, that's the path I took here myself. I was very familiar with the Greek pantheon, and I tried to have contact with Demeter, Apollon and some others. Ultimately they both kinda looked at me and said...meh. I do have an ongoing relationship with Hera still, but that's about it. I at first kinda looked at the Egyptian faith and structure and said "ehhh, that is too organized for me, too much emphasis on "order", I was highly Erisian at the time, heh. I wanted none of it.

Aaannd...here I am now.

Yep, me too. Did my time as an Agnostic. Eventually Aset made Herself known, and drug me in headfirst. Hehe.

Ask away, as has been said, we tend to like question.  :)

Em hotep, Mike! Welcome to the boards. I hope you enjoy your time here--and don't ever worry about asking too many questions. As for practicing, it's never inappropriate simply to light a candle and/or some incense and say "hello." ^_^

Em hotep and welcome Mike!

I wasn't originally interested in Egypt when I came here as well. I was practicing Asatru, and before that Hellenic Wicca, and yet here I am.

Ask as many questions as you want! Also, it is nice to see more people falling in love with Nebt-het :)
