Wesir and celery?
« on: July 08, 2011, 02:46:39 pm »
I recently have felt the need to get to know Wesir. A few nights ago, I prayed and told Him that I would like to get to know Him. He then proceeded to tell me to eat some celery.

Anyone know of a connection here?

Em hotep Astra!

It's green, phallic shaped, healthy, filled with fiber, and if you are allergic to it, it could kill you. Sounds like something He may like. I have never given it to Him in the past, but give it a try and let us know your results.

I just looked in Lise Manniche's An Ancient Egyptian Herbal, and apparently garlands of celery leaves were sometimes used to adorn mummies during the New Kingdom period. It had a number of medicinal uses too.

No personal experience with Wesir here (for perhaps obvious reasons ;) ), but something watery, green, and phallic seems like it would be his style.

Although I haven't got any words from him, I think there is a definite confirmation that this is what he was wanting. I never noticed raw celery having a tasty before or being so watery - water connected with the life and death cycle like he is, perhaps?

Either way, it's interesting. Thanks all. :)

Wesir became associated with the afterlife during the Middle Kingdom. However he was originally far more associated with grain and the fertile Nile. He's shown as black or green in association with that. The water connection would go back to those origins.
