The Kane Chronicles, What do you think of it?
« on: November 28, 2011, 04:40:06 am »
Imhotep, Everyone,

I didn't find this anywhere so I don't know if I'm posting this in the right spot or not. The Kane Chronicles. I've just finished reading 'The Red Pyramid' (took me a year to read it because I'm lazy) and I thought the book was pretty good. What do you all think of it? I know the Hellenic are all mad about Percy Jackson and think that it's not worth reading 'if your serious about your practice.' So what do you all think. For or against. If I've posted this in the wrong spot then you can move it.

Thanks and have a great week.
I follow the rhythm of Egypt.

I know there was a thread somewhere... I think the general consensus is that the books are entertaining.

I really liked the first book and I'm looking forward to starting to read the second. Oh and I couldn't find the threat which is why I did this one.

As for the person "Kane", I prefer the Karl Edward Wagner books.

I have no clue whatsoever what this book series is about. Could you perhaps elaborate on that ea bit? Or give a link to a page or two for checking it out? We in Germany get books a lot later, so... it'd be very helpful. :)

I love the Wilbur Smith 'Egyptian' series of novels - beginning with the now classic 'River God'!

The Kane Chronicles is going to be a three book series by Rick Riordan. The first one was called 'The Red Pyramid' and it was about Seth being set free, along with the other gods, and trying to take over the world. The second book is called 'The Throne of Fire' and the two siblings are trying to find Ra because Apophis is rising. The Chaos snake wishes to consume the sun, thus destroying the world. The third book, which will end the series, will be released in May and a title has not been released.

I honestly cannot say because I have not read the Kane Chronicles yet. Maybe this will soon change, because I have read the Percy Jackson books and think they are great.

Rrrr, sounds intertesting enough to get the first volume and read it... hope they sell them in English. It's become hard to come by original books recently.

I don't mind mythology digressing from my religious beliefs, I just don't like the "Set is the personified evil" approach. Provided that is not what the books make of Him, count me in. ^^

Personally... I love the Kane Chronicles. They are funny and they really pull you into the story.
The way the Names are portrayed are, at times, very good. Other times (IMO) are very far from how I see Them.

@Petyu- Set is somewhat of the bad guy in the first book, but His behavior is explained at the end. In the second book, He reminds me of the rebellious Brother who enjoys making trouble, but will help those in need if it asked for.

I just finished reading The Red Pyramid and I thought it was good. It is interesting to see how others see the Kemetic gods and I think some of the personas were spot on. Yinepu was very entertaining to me!

I checked: the first book isn't even available yet! Aaaargh!!!! And it's designated as a children's book, above all... I hate living over here when it comes to books. *grumbles*

Petyu:  It is a "young adult" novel, which is targeted at youth ages 10-15.

The German cover has a knobbly-nosed Set glowering down at a girl and a boy, and all in all it looks like... uhm... Harry Potter goes prehistoric. Gnnn. Can't seem to find the English version over here. I'll check my special "dealer" tomorrow. You made me curious.

I've read reviews that say it can be enjoyed by all ages and that it has a wealth of Kemetic mythology in it's pages...

Anyway, I've ordered it so I'll soon find out! :)
