Think I'm Finally Ready After 4 Years
« on: June 28, 2012, 06:05:51 pm »
Em hotep!

I just received Hemet(AUS)'s most recent e-mail regarding the newest RPD guidelines, and it felt significant because I've been feeling more and more like I am finally ready to undergo RPD this year.  I've been thinking about it for almost 4 years now-the equivalent amount of time to being in high school or college- and I think I am finally letting go of my need to hear certain Names turn up.  I have a question before sending in my application, however, and thought I'd see if I could find answers here first without bothering Hemet, considering how busy her schedule always is...the thing is that, while I feel ready for the RPD, I know I am not yet prepared to take Shemsu vows, regardless of what my lineup may be.  Even if I agree with the results 100 percent (which I'm not necessarily expecting) I will probably want to wait a while before taking the step to becoming Shemsu, because I've taken every other step on this path after waiting a considerable amount of time, just to be sure, and honestly, while I know KO *is* the religion for me in the event that "religion" is for me at all...I'm still figuring out *how* significant of a role I want organized religion to play in my life. Is this something I should tell Hemet up front at the time I submit my application, or at any point before having the RPD? I didn't know if it would be considered disrespectful in any way to know something like this beforehand and not mention it.

Em hotep Kathleen,

You are not required to declare one way or other about being Shemsu. You can certainly say (assuming that you accept the RPD results, which would be the first step in any case before declaring to be Shemsu) that you have not decided yet if you wish to take Shemsu vows.

That is perfectly acceptable. Should you decide to do that, even years from now, that would be quite all right :)

Hope this helps (and it is always good to ask).

Nekhtet on deciding to follow your heart, whatever you may decide!

The RPD itself, whether you take the shemsu vows or not, is a life-changing event!

Thanks again to everyone for the Nekhtets, but I'm afraid I may not really be as ready as I was feeling when I posted a few days ago, and it was feeling dishonest of me not to post again and say so.  It's true that I am letting go of an admitted need I've felt for a long time to hear the "right" Names come up in RPD, but ever since I posted here the other day, I have been realizing that the main reason I felt the time was right is precisely *because* it's been 4 years that I've been debating with myself, and because I'm one of those people who has a phobia about the year 2012, and those probably aren't the best reasons to go ahead with it at this time.  I was putting unconscious pressure on myself to make a decision because I felt I "should" be ready by now, when it's starting to look as though I may be one of those Remetj who are never ready, and I know that's OK, too.  :)

It has taken me three years of on and off practice before Aset took me by the hand and said 'It's time to be serious about your practice.' Taking the Beginners Course will be the next step, after finally being serious about this, in my spiritual path. I've been back for nearly a month and still working things out. Moving to Ky can do that to you.
