Salutations!
« on: July 13, 2013, 12:20:04 pm »
I am, in case it wasn't already incredibly obvious, new.  New here, and fairly new to Kemeticism as a whole.  I've got to admit, I feel a little like the proverbial sore thumb, as I don't have a fancy Kemetic name like most of the people here. :P

I've been working mostly with Bast, and more recently, Sutekh (albeit, with a bit of trepidation; I'm not entirely sure  I want to invite a God of storms and sudden change into my life...).  I also feel like I ought to give Djehuty at least a little love (though I haven't figured out exactly what to do for Him yet), seeing as He's basically the God of my chosen career path.  I'm doing my PhD in linguistics; is there anything more Djehutyful than academics+language?

I have to admit, I'm not sure if Kemetic Orthodoxy is for me, but I thought I'd join up here, and find out.  I'm thinking of signing up for the Beginner's Course, too, for the same reason.  I also hear this place has knowledgeable Kemetic people. :)

So yeah.  That's me.  It's nice to meet you all.

Welcome!

Most of these fancy names are shemsu names, given once we take vows here. I didn't start off with the one I have now.

Hope you enjoy it here! :)

Em hotep and welcome to the boards! Nice to meet you. :)

Don't worry about the names - like Shezep said, many of these were given to us as part of Kemetic Orthodoxy rites, and others have chosen their own.

Perusing these boards and taking the beginner course are great ways to learn more about the Netjeru and Kemetic Orthodoxy. There's no pressure for you to become a part of Kemetic Orthodoxy, either - if you wind up wanting to after you've completed the beginner course, great!, and if not, you can continue hanging around (if you wish) as a guest and still participate on the public forums. :)

And yes, there are plenty of knowledgable Kemetics here, including at least one accredited Egyptologist and several others who are incredibly well-studied. Feel free to ask questions or share stories on the boards; we're a friendly bunch!
