New movie about Ancient Egyptian gods slated for 2015
« on: November 10, 2013, 10:11:29 pm »
[color:#990099]Some of you know that I'm a big Phantom of the Opera fan. Gerard Butler played the role of The Phantom in that movie. So when I saw this I just had to share:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2404233/fullcredits?ref_=tt_cl_sm#cast

Gerry (you know, the guy from 300?) has been cast to portray Set. I can't wait to see this! :D[/color]

The story kicks off when the Egyptian god Set kills his brother, the underworld deity Osiris.
Osiris’ son Horus attempts to avenge his father by killing his uncle, but succeeds only in having his eyes plucked out. Still determined to stop the mad Set, Horus joins forces with the love goddess Hathor and a human thief who happens to be in love with a slave.

Torn between being really excited for this movie and giving the side-eye at oversimplifying the Set/Wesir/Heru conflict and turning Hathor into a Hollywood love goddess.

Cool. It's pretty good they haven't completely overlooked Anciemt Egypt. Should be better than The Mummy anyway.

Hey, the Mummy had some pretty well made Middle Egyptian language, at least.
I also kind of dread the Hathor-love-goddess thing. And I bet they won't get close to the original text of the myth... or the movie would have to be NC17.

Did it really? I didn't know that.

Have they decided on a rating for this film yet?

I've gotta say - I'm hoping this film will turn out at least half-way decent! ^.^

And the plot sounds vaguely familiar. I wonder where they got that idea from. <_<

Regardless, I think it'll be awesome to see a modern interpretation of the ancient myths.

I'm going to be optimistic about this.  Nothing is perfect, and no film portrayal will make every one of us perfectly happy.  I have this sneaking suspicion that I'll be "rooting" for Set.  ;)

Unless they include the erotic texts...then I'll be impressed.

Otherwise, big american films tend to be just awful.

I did laugh a little bit at 'and then i remembered..' in regards to Set being played by a white dude. Ha.
