Are Separate Shrines Required?
« on: November 29, 2013, 08:25:10 pm »
I've noticed that some Kemetics in the House of Netjer have separate shrines for Senut and festivals. Is that necessary for Orthodox standards or can a person use a single shrine for both daily practices and festivals?

To my knowledge, you can have everyone on one shrine, or have separate shrines. Just depends on what you want to do and how you work.

I personally use a large table thingy (actually a casket bier) and it is used for everything. I even set it up for holiday or festival occasions. It's just personal preference and what the gods want. My only requirement from Ra, is that his space is elevated above the rest of the gods, but still apart of the main shrine.

I have separate shrines for festivals because the Gods in festival are not necessarily the Gods I do Senut for. And another reason is that I want to do something special for a festival.
When it comes to keeping different Gods in one shrine you might find that some Gods prefer their own space or that they don't want to be next to certain other Gods.

Em Hotep,

I think of it this way; when I was still celebrating secular holidays, I'd decorate accordingly. Setting up a festival shrine different from my senut shrine is the same thing- decorating according to the festival.

Hope this helps put things in to perspective.

I have the ability to place a second surface in my shrine room for festivals, so I suppose it wouldn't be a put out to use a second one.

I have multiple shrines: Akhu, Senut, God(s) of the Year, and Past Gods of the Year.  If a festival is in honor of one of the Names included in one of those shrines, I will use that shrine.  If not, then I will do another shrine.
