Ancient and Modern Aspects and Sycretizations
« on: May 31, 2014, 04:40:46 pm »
I thought might be helpful if we had an index thread for Names that are viewed as Aspected or Syncretized, specifically whether that view is from Ancient or Modern times. That way, people who are looking for information on a specific Name can have some idea of where to look and what to look for. I also know there are some Names that in Ancient times, are harder to classify, i.e., its not certain they were aspected or syncretized, but it seems likely -- such as Names with no known temples of their own.

Please feel free to add to this, or correct it!

Known Ancient:
--------------
Hethert-Sekhemet
Amun-Ra
Ra-Atum
Yinepu-Wepwawet
Sobek-Ra
Ra-Heruakhety

--------------
Likely Ancient:

Nebethet-Nit
Serqet-Aset

--------------
Known Modern:

Bast-Mut

I have yet to find anything truly convincing in regards to Anup and Wepwawet being aspected or even syncretized. I think they are remarkably distinct and come by their similarities (which seems limited to funerary contexts) from different directions.

I don't know whether it has been ever written down as such, but I feel there is a kind of aspectedness/syncretism of Tefnut and Hethert in the sense that They are both the Wandering Goddess. During the Return of the Distant Goddess, I celebrate Tefnut-Hethert, Who seems very different from the aspect of Mother I connect with on a daily basis (Who is more like Tefnut-as-Ma'at).
Akhytsenu, "Two Are Flying"
Sat Tefnut, Ra-Heruakhety & Hekatawy I
Meryt Sekhmet-Hethert, Shu, Djehuty & Nit-Nebthet-Seshat

Pronoun: they/them/their/themself

Akhyt - I believe that Tefnut and Hethert were syncretized in antiquity, actually, so that makes perfect sense!
