Excited,possibly over enthusiastic newbie!
« on: May 03, 2015, 04:42:41 pm »
Hi!/Em hotep (did I do that right?)

I'm Noof. I'm 28 and I'm new here and very excited!

I have been in love be with the Netjer since I was a child and would go to the Egyptian exhibit in the Carnegie. My first book I wrote in first grade (I was still doing backwards h's) was about Bastet and Sekhmet (I think they were guarding a jewel from bad guys? )
I spent about 15 years as a Buddhist with extensive zazen (seated meditation) experience.
I have recently refelt the call of the Netjer
I know most of this will be answered in the intro class in June, but in the meantime what are some appropriate ways to contact/honor the netjer?
I don't want to spend a month developing "bad habits"!
I found some books by Judith Paige called "invoking/pathworking with the Egyptian gods" (used 2 for 1 deal)
I also believe I read that during the beginners course you should focus on worshipping/getting to know a wide range of deities.
So in the meantime should I just start with that it focus for now in the ones that pulled/lead me here?

So very many questions!
Thank you for all your patience!

Em Hotep, Noof, welcome to the community! :)

First of all, I really don't think you can develop bad habits, as it is about your own personal relationship with the Netjer.  If there is one thing I have learned in my time here, it is that there are many ways to do it "correctly", no one will or even CAN tell you you're doing it wrong.  With that said..when I first started here, I was advised to create a basic, unanimous shrine (meaning, one not dedicated to any Name in particular, just one for Netjer as a whole).  It doesn't have to be much, just a candle, some incense, and an offering bowl or something.  Then just light the candle and talk to them.  You'll be amazed how far that goes!  Do this as often as you want to until class starts in June, and then add elements from class as you see fit, but for the most part, establishing the connection will be the first step.  Ask questions here if you have them, but aside from that, that's pretty much it, enjoy the journey!

Again, welcome! :)

Em hotep and welcome Noof, it's nice to meet you!

During the beginner's class we ask that you focus on Netjer, the whole, rather than individual names.  This is to help you open up to other Names than the Ones you're used to, as some may decide to say hello and introduce Themselves.  Your focus, however, should remain on Netjer for the duration of the class.

Until that time, you're welcome to focus on any Name(s) you like.  There's no right or wrong way to approach Them so long as you're sincere in wanting to get to know Them and/or worship Them.

I'm not familiar with Judith Paige, but your description sounds more like the books are geared towards new age/Wiccan/solitary witch studies.  There's nothing wrong with that if that's what you're into, but it's not what we do here.

I hope that helps, and I'll look forward to seeing you in the next class. :-)

Just wondering if you're in the Pittsburgh area, I noticed you mentioned the Carnegie, Would that be the Carnegie Museum of Natural History?  There are just 2 of us in KO here wondering if you could be a 3rd.   ;D

Em hotep, Noof!

I was instantly caught with the idea of your meditation experience.  I am an absolute bungler/beginner in meditation, but I've found that is the absolute best way for me to get in touch with the Gods when I'm looking for deeper interactions.

There is a book written by our organization's founder, Reverand Tamara Siuda (usually referred to by her nickname, Hemet) which has a great deal of information about the main staple of our private worship, called Senut.  You will get instructions during the Beginner's course for Senut, but if you want to get started earlier, you could buy the book.  http://smile.amazon.com/Ancient-Egyptian-Prayerbook-Tamara-Siuda/dp/0578030713/ref=smi_www_rco2_go_smi_2072681542?ie=UTF8&%252AVersion%252A=1&%252Aentries%252A=0

Looking forward to seeing you around,

Tahai

Wait?  There's more people in Pittsburgh than one?  So cool.  :-D

Anyway, welcome.  I lived in Pittsburgh for greater than 10 years and will probably be back in PA by the end of the year, but on the other side.

Senebty,

Taji
