Male lion-headed netjeru?
« on: June 26, 2015, 04:59:17 am »
Recently I've been looking for statues of Sekhmet for my shrine and I've come across several statues of male lion-headed, sun disk wearing deities misslabeled as Sekhmet. It has been bugging me a lot as decent statues of Sekhmet are few and far between.

Could this be Ra? As I know he has a lion-headed form. I was also thinking these could also be Maahes as he is 'the heat of the sun' but as far as I know he isn't really depicted wearing the sun disk.

Does anyone have any ideas? Am I missing something really obvious?

Hey there Puffin!  I started a thread asking about male lion deities about half a year ago, maybe this will help.  It helped me a lot--the only lion I could think of at first was Ma'ahes, too, maybe your mystery statues are one of the other gods mentioned in it?

Thank you, I must have skimmed past it!

I think going through all those possibilites it can only be Maahes.

Ash could appear with a lion's head as well.

Cool, glad it helped!

I'm never super sure about most of the statues out there, I hardly ever take the person advertising it's word on who it is, but then I end up staring at it like....okay, now what? :p
