« on: October 27, 2015, 01:19:42 pm »
Em hotep :)

I was wondering whether anyone knows of associations with bats in antiquity? Random question, but I love bats and am interested to know if they were associated with anything/ anyone :D

Em hotep!!!
I also love bats! I recognize them right away here. :3
I have never seen a bat Netjer though.
I know in China and Japan they are considered good luck.

Woop, another bat lover :3
I know that a few creatures of the night had bad or unlucky associations in antiquity, I'm just kinda hoping bats weren't one of them XD

I don't see anyone being associated with bats in Egypt (there's an Egyptian Fruit Bat, so cute)  There is a cow goddess named Bat but her animal is obviously a cow.

Yay Bats

Em hotep,

Bats do not appear to have had any known associations, either good or bad, though we do know a few ancient Kemetic words for them: http://www.reshafim.org.il/ad/egypt/bestiary/bat.htm

It is strange that there are no associations at all, considering their abundance.... but at least there's nothing bad :P Thank you, Ha'aut

I'm gonna add this to my list, with dragonflies.  There are a couple of books at the ROM library that might have something.  I'll report back when I've had the chance to take a look :)
