Author Topic: What does communication with the gods feel, sound, look like to you?  (Read 2703 times)

Experiencing the presence of the gods is a very personal thing, and something I am curious about for others.
For me, when I clear my mind and pass my thoughts on, I receive feelings much more more than words in return. Sometimes, I receive images, but more often than not it is complete and fully articulated ideas that take some time to pore through and understand. Like being given a book, but it is an idea or an emotion.

Just as each person has their own mannerisms - their own scent, voice, way of moving - so too do these emotions and ideas have their own unique tinges, influenced by their sources.
With Yinepu, "speaking" with him in this way is like looking into a reflection in black tinted glass. Images are there and they are clear, but only their edges are sharply defined, picked out by light. The sensation is like making a connection with someone my own age about something from the past we share. Like sharing a knowing look across a room before we each return quietly to a task at hand. Like we work well together, synchronised, doing different things but taking pleasure in the quiet of each other's company.
Receiving much at all from him is rare - he is subtle and sparse much of the time in what he gives to me - but when we do each catch a moment, the sensation is powerful, like coming home. If I had to associate him with a sound it would be that of tall, rustling grass in the wind.

Amun is rarer still in the times we speak, and most often it is I who communicate, and he who listens. It is he that I come to when I am in need. Answers - even in this emotion form - are somewhat abrupt. However, they are booming. I get the impression from him that he has much to attend to, and thus I do not bother him unless I feel I must. I never get the feeling as though my 'audiences' with him are in any way resented - very much the opposite - but I do get the impression that I should do my level best to be concise. The sensation is like that of being a small child and approaching an immensely tall, immeasurably occupied father sat in silence at a chair. Unless it is important, you do not go there. But, when you do, you receive his full attention. The love I feel from him is not warm, but it is deep.
Imagery from him is often dark, like looking into a river at dusk. If I had to associate him with a sound, it would be the sound between sounds. Like the vibration made by humming a long tone.

A third and somewhat distant connection I would like to foster is my connection with Bast and Sekhmet. Those, I think, I will outline another time.

I hear much about Parents and Beloveds and such, reading through some threads here - but I am unfamiliar with the concepts. I suppose, though, that if I were to take a guess - I would place Amun as a Parent and Yinepu as a Beloved. I need to find a glossary to help me understand exactly what is implied by these terms.

How do you communicate with the Netjeru? What do you feel from them? What are the things you associate with your relationship to them? Do you get more language in return, or more feelings?

Em hotep.

At a random moment of the day I'll light a candle and pray, clearing my mind and relaxing. Because in my experience, I have noticed that trying to hear them doesn't work for me, and it's exhausting to keep at it. I "hear" them by checking my feelings and deducting during or after praying. The gods talk to me in a very simple way, just being with them and observing, but I don't get huge and fantastic messages, it's subtle but it's there.

Em Hotep Bakethetep,

First of all those are wonderful and beautiful descriptions of Lord Yinepu and Lord Amun.  When I read them, they made perfect sense to me.

For my Father, Heru-sa-Aset, I have experienced Him as a mostly quiet presence.  If I had to put an image to that, it would be like a leaf in Autumn falling and drifting to the ground, no wind or anything else to disturb it lands upon the grass.  He's been a figure-it-out-yourself type of god for me, though on rare occasions He will voice His opinion.  Last year, I asked Him a question, and it was clear and very vocal NO.  Another image I could put to Him, is an unassuming statue guarding over everything that He is able to see.  I have yet to experience any type of scent or smell when it comes to Papa though.  I imagine though it would be His favorite type of incense which I have figured out is Sandalwood.  With Him it's more by feeling and on rare occasions words.  One visual experience I did have with Him was in a dream that also involved Lady Hethert who appeared to me as the actress Kelly Hu.  I recently saw a viagra commercial, and in the dream I told Her so (unfortunately was not lucid and not in control of my words and actions).  She made this look then walked away.  I saw Her appear with Heru-sa-Aset (who kind of looked like the actor Nathan Fillion in the dream), who smiled and laughed at what I'd said, though She did not look happy about it.  That was probably one of the more light-hearted moments I've had with Him. (I of course woke up completely embarrassed)

My beloved Set, is much more vocal though and will make Himself known, though in my experience, the way He does it is by actions and events that happen in my life to stir things up in order to get me to listen.  For an image, it would be Him either in a really fast vehicle such as race car, or perhaps the fastest motorcycle.  And that's a bit how it happens when He speaks up and needs to me see something when I cannot even though it's right in front of me.  The feeling I often get from Him is anger, but in a controlled type of manner.  It's kind of hard to describe Him in this way though.  Just imagine a bad-boy outcast type of personality, a rebel who rarely toes the line.  That's how He's even appeared to me in my dreams; tall, shoulder-length dark hair, deep coal-black eyes, and in suit without a jacket though.  In one dream, He appeared like that, I was at a party for me, and He was alone in the kitchen (again the outcast type of god) drinking some kind of beer, hanging out with Lady Sekhmet.  I came over and was about to tell Him my name when He said "I know who you are."  Then Lady Sekhmet came over, shared a smile, looked me over, asked Him a question I couldn't understand.  Then They both continued to size me up, Lady Sekhmet smiled and said "He has potential."  That's probably my most favorite experience of Lord Set so far.  At point, a very clear message from Him to me was "Magic is not something to be f***** around with."

However my beloveds Aset-Serqet and Nut are much more like my Papa in that they are quiet, especially Lady Nut.  I know They are there, but They're more calm when it comes to feeling them.  Lady Nut, while quiet, I do have a clear image of Her being like that one grandmother who's everyone's most favorite.  As for sound, She's the great silence of the night, just pure blissful silence and warmth.  When it comes to Lady Aset-Serqet, She's the ultimate image of a High Priestess for me, an endless fount of knowledge, and wisdom, both mundane and magical.  In terms of sounds and smells, Lady Aset-Serqet would be incense burning in ritual, and Lady Nut would be like the wonderful scents you would smell when stepping into your grandmother's house.

So far, that's been my experience with Them.  Thank you so much for making this post Bakethetep.  I love hearing about other people's experiences with the Netjer.   ;D

Heru-wer is often in the background. At times I can sense... emotions from Him? For example, sometimes I feel that He is a bit disappointed or frustrated with me. Other times I get the sense that He is watching over me, but keeping mostly out of it because He likes it when I am independent and trust myself.

When He does have a message to communicate, I usually get a thought that isn't mine (that probably doesn't make sense), or a dream. It's usually straightforward. For example, I highly associate Him with the moon. One night I was waiting to talk to an ex-friend and I couldn't see the moon anywhere. It might've been hidden behind clouds, I'm not sure. Regardless, I heard a very firm "No clarity will be found tonight". And He was right.

Wesir is calm, deep, cool water. Patience. Warm smiles and the deepest care. He gets most... I'm not sure what the right word is. Upset? When I'm not taking care of myself.

He speaks most clearly in thoughts in dreams. He also lacks the dislike of divination Heru-wer seems to have and is usually quite willing to speak through tarot to me. He is often less straightforward then Heru-wer, preferring metaphors, symbols, and something that can have multiple meanings.

I don't have much experience with Set or Sekhmet yet, I hope to fix that soon!

I discussed this briefly in one of my recent blogs, but I can reflect more below. Please excuse any typos, I am mobile!

Normally I hear Bast-Mut as an inner voice, often faint but sometimes clear.  I feel her in emotions, and in warmth in the case of accepting a hug from her.  She is warm, royal, and very loving.

Mafdet comes in feelings and sometimes emotions. She tends to be mostly quiet, but I can feel if she wants something of me. Very protective.

Heru-sa-Aset is mostly thoughts, sometimes words. He's a bit lighthearted and spirited, but serious when it's needed. Always a young adult for me. It he wants something strongly or my attention, there is no doubt that I'm gonna feel it strong. Hangs in the background more often like Mafdet does.

For me, Bast is everything and everywhere. She has been since 2002. I see Her, hear Her, feel Her. She sometimes comes as a woman, sometimes as a house cat, sometimes as a panther. She always has black hair or fur and always wears a collar or thick necklace. Her voice sometimes sounds like an anger wind, sometimes like a flute, sometimes like a deep Alto woman's voice. Sometimes, when I deserve it, She has a snarl or a hiss.

Wepwawet I usually feel as this overwhelming masculinity and He smells like the wilds.

Set is joyful chaos and the sound of thunder and the feeling of electricity.

Just wanted to add a couple more things that I forgot to mention in my original post for a couple of gods.  These are more images than feelings really, but for Lord Djehuty, I see Him as a theatrical director at a upscale college for example Harvard or something like that.  He wears glasses, and either a purple/red/pink type of scarf.  For the gods Khnum and Hapi, I've had this image stuck in my head for awhile of the two owning a type of Salon and Spa.  Khnum would be the hair and nails department while Hapi would be spa side making your body feel good, both cleansing, massages etc...  I just really wanted to add that here hope you don't mind.  :)

There are so many ways that the gods interact with me. I'll give some examples
The other day I was struggling with some things so I went to see my doctor. After I left I wandered around the city, kinda down, didn't know what to do with myself. I felt so alone and that's the only thing i could feel. I sat on the sidewalk and still was feeling dreadfully alone when HUNDREDS of birds flew over me. I knew it was the gods saying you aren't alone, you're never alone, you have us. And that sadness was replaced by this warm comforting feeling.
Aset never leaves me alone hahaha I love it though, she's such a wonderful presence. One night I was lying in my bed fearful and anxious and unable to sleep, but then I looked over at my altar which is right outside my room and the flower I have on there was in the form of this little completely black figure  (not making this up at all, idk if my eyes were playing a trick on me or what) she turned to me and spread her wings and then slowly (but surely) my anxiety passed and I was able to sleep.
The Netjer are always by my side

The netjer have presented themselves in different ways for me. When I see Yinepu, it is commonly in profile, with one green eye showing. One time, when I had a sick pet and had asked him to care for her when she crossed into the West, I was awakened by him calling my name. I looked up to see him standing by my bed, holding my beloved Rottweiler in his arms. He was massive, but I felt his tenderness.  I looked at my phone, and had a text from my ex telling me she had just died.

I have seen the netjer in dreams, most of the time they are on temple or tomb walls, surrounded by beautiful images and hieroglyphs.

One time I was awake, and had a vision of Set. He was standing in an old church courtyard, looking at a puppy and kitten playing. The pup chased the kitten behind one of the crumbled walls, and emerged from it having torn the kitten to bits. Set looked at that, and said, "This is what is happening in your country". I felt a divine, strong, yet reassuring vibe from him. He was very tall, wearing a robe or cape. I didn't see his face.
