Strange figure titled Sekhmet
« on: August 31, 2017, 06:18:24 pm »
I've posted this elsewhere, and I've messaged the seller for more pictures, but this little statue gives me Bast-Mut feelings.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/Vintage-Egyptian-Statue-Goddess-Sekhmet-Hand-Carved-1980-Made-in-Egypt-/322637167990

It's feline and the crown LOOKS like the double crown, however it's hard to tell.

Has anybody seen a statue like this before?

I have seen that statue before. In my opionbis looks male, though feline it is. You could always use it for Bast-Mut or maybe even Ra, in his cat aspect, but not sure.

I hadn't quite considered that aspect (being a form of Ra) and that is a valid point. Compared to that Bast in the background, this one is very masculine. I suppose I'll have to wait for the clearer pictures and see from there!

Thank you

Em hotep Tawa'u!

You could totally paint the image so it appears to be wearing other clothing, but generally the kilts are a signifier for "male" Deities, people, or aspects. I'm not certain if Bast-Mut has a more male aspect that would make this image make perfect sense for Her, but whatever works for you is what works best!

My original large Sekhmet statue was the common two knives image put out that's really a male shrine guardian and it had the kilt. One of my favorite statues of Mom (and Hers) that I have has almost no chest to speak of and is really either a Hethert statue or a queen (or Queen) of some sort that I modified by adding a stylized scorpion in gold above the solar disk.

So really, what's most important is how it makes you and your Mother feel. :)

That photo is so out of focus it makes my head hurt, but I definitely don't get Sekhmet out of it.

I suppose one could use for Aker (of Smite fame) or Ma'ahes. It feels to me like the cat-face was a last minute sculpt.

There's really no sense in trying to figure out what these tourist figurines are supposed to be.  Decide what they mean for you.

I'm of the same opinion as Bestekeni, decide for yourself. If you are getting Bast-Mut feelings, than it is a fine representation for Her. Basically, if you think it looks like Bast-Mut and you would like having it, than it is a good representation of Her for your purposes.

Em hotep. *henu*

I have found there are many male statues mislabeled as Sekhmet.  I think the sellers really have no clue.

I think you could use it for Ma'ahes or Ra-Heruakhty (Sphinx, anyone?) but that's just my opinion.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts, ideas and suggestions!
I got the additional pictures yesterday and it's such a weird statue. The crown isn't quite right, and while it has a feline face, there's no real ears to speak of, and overall it's odd.

It's like Bestekeni said, these tourist figures....
