Hello everyone!
« on: September 24, 2017, 03:21:46 pm »
Hi!  Just wanted to introduce myself - my browser remembered my username and password for the forum so I guess I signed up way back and never posted anything.  :P

My name is Matt, I live in Northwest Louisiana, I have an obsession with religious studies, video gaming, and sci-fi/fantasy/horror anything, and I just really like wine.  I originally applied for the beginner's class some time ago but never followed through so I've gone ahead and applied again for the class starting in October.  It's a REALLY long story about what happened in between - think recovering monotheist - but suffice to say I finally feel ready to at least learn after having processed my experiences and doubts.  I've been lurking the forum and reading a bunch of tumblrs and wordpress blogs connected to Kemetic Orthodoxy so that's been fun.  I'm also collecting the few supplies and things I need for Senut.

And speaking of, I do already have some sort of interest in or connection with Wesir I think (it's very hard to describe, super subtle and faint).  I may have a connection with Sobek or Sobek-Ra and potentially Bast-Mut, but again it's very hard to describe.  And I've always been drawn to Djehuty.  I know starting out it's encouraged to leave our options wide open but I have a Wesir statue and a candle to Ma'at and Djehuty on the way - would I be fine using these for Senut?  I figured I could put Wesir on my akhu shrine (once I get that up) and the candles can honestly go anywhere if I should leave them off at first - I could always dedicate them to it later.  Just curious what y'all might think.

Em hotep and welcome!

When you're in beginner's class you are strongly encourage not to focus on any specific Names during senut. If you want to informally you can, but for the formal rite this will leave this open for Anyone else Who may want to come forth. It can also connect you with Netjer and a whole/one.

Em hotep! *henu*

Welcome back! I hope your second time through the Beginner's class goes well, we're always happy to see people drop back in again. :)

As for the Senut practice, Zat has it right! Not focusing on any Name allows us to keep the doors open for other Names that might show up that we would otherwise miss if we're too focused on specifics. It's not a matter of never being able to pray to Them again, it's just for a short time so we aren't accidentally shutting doors on Others that might like to say hi too. :)

Take it as a time to grow and have fun with the experience! Our Gods are never angry if we need to put Them aside to learn something new! I'd even wager that They might have had a hand in it all along...

Senebty!

Thanks, everyone! :)

And I will be sure to keep my Senut shrine and practice free of any specific deity images.  I think it's good advice anyway, especially because I have limited exposure to Kemetic gods and the nudges I'm getting are very...nebulous?  I guess it's because I've reached out to the Universe so I feel as though I'm getting some sort of response but I don't know what to make of it yet.

Yay for Djehuty!!! <3

Senebty,
Endy
