Unsure but looking to learn
« on: July 21, 2018, 05:43:29 pm »
Hello, I'm new to Kemeticism in general and I'm unsure if Kemetic Orthodoxy is the right "fit" for me. I hope that by viewing posts and talking a little, I might be able to figure out if KO is where I'm being led. If it isn't, I'm sure I'll have a few worthwhile experiences here before moving on. 🙂

Em hotep and welcome!

I was in the same boat you were. I am wary of organized religion in general, and I did a lot of looking around before I decided to take the Beginner's class. It's okay to be wary, and to learn what you're getting into before doing it. That's why we have the Beginner's class. If you chose to take it, there's no obligation to stay afterwards. I never felt any pressure, or shaming, or anything.

Regardless, even if you chose not to either take the class or stay after, you can still hand around the forums. There's a good community here, and a lot you can still absorb.

I hope you find what you're looking for, in the end!

Senebty,
Ushedi

Em hotep and welcome, Nefrubity!

You definitely aren't alone in wondering if Kemetic Orthodoxy is the right fit for you. Since we are all converts, I think we all have asked ourselves this question at one point. But regardless of whatever you decide, I hope you enjoy your time with the community. I look forward to "seeing" you around the forums!

Em hotep Nefrubity,

Welcome to the boards.  The afore mentioned beginner class is free ..the only thing it costs is your time and an open mind.  Or ..if not as also mentioned, you are welcome to stay on and be part of the online community.

Wishing you the best in wherever your path takes you.

Hello, it's very nice to meet you!  I would recommend taking the beginner's class, that should help you decide if you want to stay with us.

Thank you for the kind welcomes.

I'm interested in the beginner's course but I don't know entirely what to expect from it. I'm quite a nervous person; I do well enough in group forums but more one-on-one interaction can be nerve-wracking. Does the course take the form of distant learning supplied by online education sources?

I don't know if my question makes sense. I'm having a look through web pages just now, so hopefully, I can work out more on my own. Any response would still be wonderful.

Hello again!

The course is in e-mail form, with web chats twice week. I do not believe that the chats are required, and I definitely know that you don't necesserily participate in the discussion if you don't want to. There is optional but strongly encouraged "homework" and "quizes" as well; but the quizes aren't anything but making sure you understand the lesson. That is about the only "one-on-one" thing, and its still fairly distant.

I can be shy and nervous too, and I was never forced out of my comfort zone. I really enjoyed the class.

Em hotep!

The beginner's course is very simple and it's easy to take if you have anxiety or social issues (like me). Like Ushedimuti said, it's almost entirely through automatic emails with exceptions being replies to any homework answers and the optional group chat.

You are expected to interact though, not just read the emails, but answering the homework is enough interaction for the teachers to accept. I'd still recommend giving the group chat a try though because it really is useful and a lot of fun once you relax a bit.

If you do end up taking the course, then I hope you enjoy it!

Thank you for the explanation of the beginner's course. :)

I should be able to handle that level of interaction. I think I should wait until after I start and get into the rhythm of an upcoming Arts & Humanities access module I have starting soon. I want to be able to give decent attention to both.

But, yes, I'll most likely take it.
