I am sorry this happened.  I was just trying to say that I can see both sides and agreeing with both ideas/experiences.  Anyway, I hope we can continue the discussion which is just meant to be a fun experience wondering what type of modern jobs the Netjer might have.

Yeah.  I’m confused and still disquieted.   I reread the thread and the first thing I did was share a different take on Aset than you had given.  And you were like, “I don’t get Her that way, but I totally see it!”

I appreciate that response. ❤️  It’s been a fun thread.

And I think stuff like this can go deeper and help us understand how the netjeru move in our lives and help us with what we struggle with. And I think that’s an important thing to be able to discuss in a safe space.

I may’ve overreacted to Gezausenu’s post a bit.  But it had some triggers for me personally.  I hate being called out vaguely.  They didn’t say my name, but everything that was upsetting them was clearly something I had done.  I really hate that.  If someone has a problem with something I said, I’d appreciate if they asked me about it and not vaguely call me out in public over it and then leave.  My immediate gut response is to view that as an attack that I have no opportunity to respond to or address.  Please talk to me directly. Allow me the chance to clarify and clear up misunderstandings.  The benefit of the doubt even, as described above.  And also, realizing the space I thought WAS safe to explore these thoughts wasn’t really safe at all.

It hurt.  A lot.  It was also a rough day at work.  I’d been shut down on another discussion related to physician wellness earlier that same day on social media.  I was exhausted.  So while the hurt I feel was legitimate, my reaction may’ve been a bit much for the circumstance. I apologize for that.

I do hope the conversation can continue. I totally see how Djehuty could be a college prof.  But I kinda get Him as an old school psychoanalyst. He figures you out in two seconds while He remains a complete mystery.

Senebty,

Taji

I could see Sekhmet as a surgeon.  "The best way to heal is with cold hard steel", as some of the veterinary surgery specialists I know say...as in, debriding an infected wound, removing a foreign body, lancing an abscess, etc.

"To cut is to cure", as it were. The cardiac surgeons where I work even have that quote on a plaque in their lounge.

Following the medical theme here, I think Serqet would be a Respiratory Therapist.

Granted, being an RT I'm obviously super biased here but hear me out. Although I haven't been lucky enough to have any interaction with Her, I know that among her titles is "She who causes the throat to breathe" and "She who gives breath". Well...what better a job for then than that of an RT, who's whole job literally revolves around helping people breathe, or breathing for them?

Em Hotep All,

I love this post!

Can totally see Yinepu as a funeral director/grief counsellor. And on that note, I had a thought... what if, after you passed, to lead you to the Blessed Fields, He appeared to you as your family pet. A source of familiar comfort when you are lost and scared?

Aset I see as a CEO, a no-nonsense attitude, get it done with a firm guiding hand.

Wepwawet as a Door Greeter/Opener. Yeah I know getting literal, but... He also gives you little snips of friendly advice or a heads up if something isn't right, preparing you for your day.

Bast definitely feels like a vet or a zoo keeper. Or a healer of some sort (that one Doctor Who Ep with the feline Nurses gives off some huge Bast vibes)

Heru -  Pilot. Soaring across the skies, watching us from above.

Wesir - Judge or Director of Horror movies. Something tells me He would make a great zombie flick.

Atum - multiple jobs, but always that background employee that doesnt say much, but does the jobs that help you out without you knowing who did them. I also see Him with a love of jigsaw puzzles.

As for Set, I dont see Him as having a job per se, but as a drifter. Getting odd jobs here and there, and then setting off again. Never staying in one place too long, cause He knows what Chaos He can spread.

I hope to see more of this thread and everyones thoughts.

Totally.  I don’t really have a relationship with Serqet, but I could also see Her as a toxicologist.

Em hotep GryphonMagi and thanks.  I'm glad you like this post.  Also I love your idea for Wesir being a judge or director of horror movies.  Same goes for Set.  While I still see Him being a kind of trucker, I do get what you mean.  He totally has that drifter vibe going on too.  Also a very interesting idea for Yinepu appearing as a family pet, to elaborate I'd see Him doing that and of course being able to talk, making you totally surprised.  Like "Omg Fluffy you can talk?!"  :)

Em Hotep Everyone,

I love everyone's responses.

Ra as the sailor, wow I love that! Ra as a pagan farmer, that is so fun!!

Bast as a caregiver, incredible!

I work with children and I loved to sail. As a child of both, it relates to me, and that's super cool.

That got me thinking, mostly about how some people are feeling invalidated with their feelings.

Remember, when we bring the Gods down to our world and put them to work, it's a direct reflection on how *we* view *them* and how they *impact* our lives *individually*

For those who do not agree with other people's point of view, that's okay! But this is a safe space and it's important to remember the fundamental principles of respect, patience and empathy.

For example,
I love the idea of Yinepu as a family pet so much! I also love horror movies, and the idea of Wesir as a horror movie direction is fun. My perception of Wesir in my life is far closer to him being a judge, but being able to imagine him in that role might bring a new perspective of Wesir to light. While I might not "agree" that Wesir would make a good horror movie director, who am I to "judge?" LoL!! Instead I can picture him sitting in the back of a chair shouting at an actor to put a little more slant in his walk. I might even ask why this person picked that career for Wesir. It's a far more healthy discussion to have. :) I can learn more about the person and why they chose this. It's not a *wrong* answer, at all! It's a new answer I hadn't thought of before and I'd love to know more about what drives a person to say something than feel like they aren't right simply because I do not understand their point of view. That happens too much in this world!

Why is Set a truck driver? Is it the open road? The solitude? The freedom to take breaks, get to a new destination every night? A road warrior? Does  your own learning history with truck drivers make the profession something you can't see your own parent in? I think Set as a truck driver is liberating, cool and freeing.

We can learn something about ourselves and learn something about Netjer along the way. We may have the same parents, but we don't always have the *same* parents. Let's be mindful of everyone's personal experiences and understand we are all here together to share the same safe place and have the same fun discussion. <3

Very well said, Tamiwi. ❤️

This discussion has also helped me to clarify that Heru-wer and Set having essentially the same job and purpose, but accomplishing it very differently is an important piece of how They manifest to me. I changed my sig to better reflect specifically how They were divined. They came to me in Their year whose oracle said “They are the Two Opposites Who work together.”

Thank you Tamiwi for such a wonderful response.  These are my thoughts exactly.  So lets all just have fun okay?  This is meant to be a safe place to post ideas whether they're completely different or not and respect those differences as well.

Em hotep, everyone~ *henu*

I found this thread pretty fun too, so hope it's ok to join in~ :)

I'm so glad someone else added Atum! I see Him as the Jack-of-all-Trades, being able to do any job that comes up, and having so many skillsets that He can help whenever it's needed. I agree that He seems the type to be out of the limelight or behind the scenes, everyone knows Him, but at the same time no one really 'knows' Him. Yet He's always busy moving/working away trying to make things better.

Hethert I see in the arts, maybe a music or dance teacher (or both!). Teaching kids or adults to start hobbies they love or are passionate about (even things like seamstress work or making jewelry). She also has a ton of skills in different art forms, is highly confident and Her smile just lightens any room She walks in, and when not teaching, she's performing on the big stage~ :)

Heru-sa-Aset is more police oriented, working with the public directly, and righting any wrongs (keeping ma'at). He volunteers a lot on the side for the community, and is good with kids. I see Him as exceptionally good at His job, even though He's one of the youngest in the force, and sort of a role model for other employees to keep working hard, upholding one's integrity and high standards at all times.

Set I see as someone in the military, or another first response person (whether police, fire fighter or paramedic). He never loses His cool, and is focused at all times even when chaos is everywhere around Him. He is highly practical, and gets the job done that others might have trouble doing. If He's in the military, I can see Him side by side with His Brother, Heru-Wer. Both on the field watching each other's back, but approaching situations a little differently.

I hope nothing is offensive... but this was fun~ :)

Please feel free to join in.  The more the merrier I say.  I didn't see anything offensive at all in your ideas.  :)  I also like your idea about Heru-wer and Set.  As well as Heru-sa-Aset too.  I really like the idea of Him being a policeman or detective.  It just sounds exactly like something He would do, and he'd probably be the most decorative of his profession, though of course He couldn't care less about the awards, He'd be all about doing the job right and making sure Ma'at is upheld.

Updating the narrative, I think that at Pagan Farmer Ra’s poker game he occasionally invites Heru Wer and Hethert over too, Hethert  I imagine owns a bakery/pastry shop much like one in my neighborhood called “Let them eat cake!” And She always brings goodies for the guys to eat which everyone loves but Heru Wer shows up in his brand new red corvette and throws 100 bills around when they were playing poker with 5 dollar bills and 1’s always saying he “never carries change.” Which everyone is annoyed at, so they don’t get invited too often. LOL!
