HetHert and the Moon...

Are there any connections between HetHert and the moon?

Hotep!

I am probably not the best to answer this, so hopefully others will jump in and give more info than I can remember off the top of my head :)

Short answer: No. Hethert (and most of the female Names) is an Eye of Ra, and thus a solar deity. The God with the biggest connection to the moon would be Djehuty (there are others as well, though, but all that are coming to mine are male, not female).

Long answer: I'll leave that to the more scholarly members who can pull up references in books and such :P

Hope this helps you!

I was trying to think of lunar deities too and I also only came up with males.  Djehuty, Khonsu, Iah.

Now, Bast during the Hellenistic period was syncretized with Artemis and underwent a bit of a lunar transformation.

But I don't think Hethert did that.  She was syncretized more with Aphrodite who isn't lunar either.

My personal experience of Hethert is very sunny and fiery, but I also feel that she’s got a good working relationship with Djehuty (again, that’s my personal take), so maybe if Hethert is inspiring moony feelings, Djehuty is lurking nearby?
Look out the window. And doesn't this remind you of when you were in the boat, and then later that night you were lying looking up at the ceiling, and the water in your head was not dissimilar from the landscape, and you think to yourself Why is it that the landscape is moving but the boat is still?

I agree with the Hethert/Eye of Ra thing in general, but I do feel, for some odd reason, that Hethert-Amenti might have something to do with the moon? If only in my personal sense of things. Probably not historically attested.

I vibe this. When I'm getting one of Hethert's other faces I get a lot of solar energy, but Hethert-Amenti has this kind of, the sun, reflected, in the eve of man, kind of energy going on. It's the same energy at the core in many ways, but it's gentled and you can look at it without needing eye protection XD

going out on a long limb here, but could the feelings be inspired by the "Nun"-feelings of a potential Hethert-Nut coming about? i definitely get moon feelings from Nut, perhaps that's bleeding over into the presenting face of Hethert in the form of Hethert-Nut?

I've been following this thread but couldn't give my opinion because I didn't know how to express it, but I feel as if She can be related to the moon in a more indirect way, as mother and/or wifi. Some moon gods can be seen as Ra in the night, Heru is defintely related to the moon and, as Redietankhesi said, She is related to Nut, altough most times Hethert is taken as the day-sky and Nut as the night-sky, both can be both skies.

Actually, Hathor is very much associated with the moon, as are a great many other Eye Goddesses. :)

For brevity, I'm going to link to a screencap of note no. 10 on page 4 of Barbara Richter's study The Theology of Hathor of Dendera. She explains the situation much more succinctly than I likely would. ;)
