What is your favorite story?
« on: January 06, 2021, 09:50:00 pm »
Em hotep!! :)

http://mythfolklore.blogspot.com/2014/06/myth-folklore-unit-ancient-egyptian.html

So I have recently been diving into the mythological tales of the pantheon and came across an old college course website with many stories. I was curious if anyone has a favorite myth, legend, or story, and/or if they know of one from a different source that I may find interesting. Please let me know. :)

I love the myths where humanity’s creation from the Creator deity’s tears is emphasized. The Creator brings the gods into existence through the Creator’s sweat, through physical exertion, but humanity is created through extreme emotion.
The dichotomy there is beautiful to me.

I have several.

Aset learns the Secret Name of Ra
Aset in the Contendings of Heru and Set
Aset stops the sunboat until Heru is healed
Anything to do with Aset.

Also, I love the Eye of Ra myth for various Eye Goddesses including Aset, Mut, Sekhmet, Tefnut, etc.

I love the creation myth recorded at Esna that involves Nit as Creatrix and Mother of Ra (because Mom, of course!).

And for modern/timeless amusement involving Set and other Names, I follow Godslave web comic.

Do you know where I can find this myth of Nit?
Mostly in the works of Serge Sauneron. Sadly these are (a) out of print, (b) very expensive, and (c) written in French! But I come across partial translations, extracts, and quotes in unexpected and seemingly unrelated academic papers and books (like one I came across this morning included in The Wisdom of Thoth: Magical Texts in Ancient Mediterranean Civilisations[!]), and of course in popular books like Lesko’s, so I piece it together from those.

My book Flaming Lioness has some hymns to Nit from the Temple of Esna.  I translated them from Sauneron's work. One of the hymns describes Nit's creation myth and Her as the Mother of Ra.

Thanks Shaseni and TahekerutAset <3 I'll give a search on Sauneron's work and also on your book, I'll probably won't be able to buy it right now, but I really love your work and little by little I hope to get all of it!

I love the myth of Creation involving Ptah-Tatenen.  It is based on a creation Myth of Egypt, but is expanded via personal gnosis into the Creation Myth of the Nome of Catlin Hollow  (Years ago Hemet said, as we are a living faith, and each of us lives in our own Nomes, we should create or expand on the existing knowledge to begin our own traditions.)

In the beginning was the Nun, a vast and chaotic primordial soup.  From that chaos, a thought, an awareness, a conglomeration...Something...began to form, but it was without drive, without purpose, without spark.  This something was Ptah-Tatenen.

As time without measure passed, a Spark, a change, another Beginning happened within the Entity.  That Spark was Heru-Wer, Who is the Heart of Ptah.  Heru-Wer was not a quiet energy though.  Heru-Wer was movement and purpose, and He pushed Ptah-Tatenen into action, into More than just Being.

Ptah-Tatenen, Whose heart was Heru-Wer, became more and more aware.  Ptah Tatenen began to think in terms of things that could be changed, moved, formed, and Heru-Wer encouraged Ptah to Act, and not simply Be.

Pthat-Tatenen was willing, but something special was needed.  He needed a way to communicate His wishes and plans outside of Himself.  He needed a way to direct the Nun that surrounded Him.  So He caused Djehuty to come into Being.  Djehuty, Who is the Tongue of Ptah.  Djehuty World-Spinner.  Djehuty, Who formed the thoughts of Ptah-Tatenen.  Djehuty, Who formed the Words of Creation.

But it wasn't enough.  The Words, the Creation, sat inside the mouth of Ptah.  There was nothing to move the words out into the Nun.  And so Ptah-Tatenen created Shu, the Breath of Ptah, and created a house within His body from which Shu could rush forward and retreat.

And that is how the First Words of Creation were spoken.  From the Inspiration that is Heru-Wer, through the Awareness that is Ptah-Tatenen, to the Breath that is Shu, who is Formed and Shaped by the Tongue that is Djehuty.

And so this is how Ma'at was born.  The Rules that guide Creation.  The Wife of Djehuty, who formed Her.

And so was Nut born, to bring order and calm to the Nun.

And so were Ra and all His Stellar Kin born, to provide light and direction, Patterns, and Beauty, and perhaps Life to all the Universe.

And so was Geb born.

And from thence all the Netjer, all the Netjeri, all the beings, past, present and future.

It was said  by some in ancient Kemet that at the end of time, when Ptah has stopped His Being, that all that will be left is Heru-Wer, the Heart of Ptah.  The Divine Spark

This is the Creation Myth of the Nome of Catlin Hollow.

         Em hotep

I like the story of Narmer considered by many scholars to be king of the first dynasty and unifier of Egypt or what you know about this king.
